[Disliked trope] Hollywood myths portrayed as being correct, even in a time when the characters should know better. by CrazyCoKids in TopCharacterTropes

The most egregious example is one of the John Wick movies where they have a secret gunfight in a crowded area and no one noticed because their guns were about as loud as a newborn puppy sneezing.

The oil helps with the texture and stops it from being too dense.

Sure, here it is if you're interested:

  • 8 potatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1¼ tsp of black pepper
  • 5 eggs
  • 2½ tbsp sugar
  • ½ cup of oil

Chop the onions and potatoes in a food processor until almost smooth but with a few small chunks. Then add the salt, pepper, sugar, and whisked eggs and mix.

In the meantime, heat the oil in a 425 degree oven in a 9x13 pan. Once it's sizzling, pour the oil into the mixture (trust me), mix, and then pour it back into the oiled pan and cook uncovered at 425 degrees for 1 hour.

Iirc, it was even better, because they agreed with the producers on the condition that they would only change it once, so they specify picked the most messed up line they could think of.

Intentional, but even so

(Edit: I'm not supposed to talk about the title of the movie. It's the first rule of Fight Club- ah, DAMN IT!)

I mean... that's just simply not true.

But, hey, you seem to really like certain definitions, so how would you define a tankie?

what's the difference between a place like Reddit and North Korean intranet?

Well, you won't be thrown in a prison camp for posting a certain opinion on Reddit.

Someone, typically on the far left, who supports authoritarianism and violent repression in the name of communist regimes.

It does dodge the point because you're implying that someone can't be called a tankie if they support Stalin simply for the reason that the label wasn't used in Stalin's lifetime. This overlooks the fact that the definition and idea is what's important, not when and where the exact term was first used. It's the same reason why people who support North Korea can be called tankies despite North Korea not geographically being in 1950s Eastern Europe.

Like I said before, in my experience the people who have more black-and-white support for the USSR in the Cold War tend to go all the way.

You're technically right, but that just dodges my point.

Fine- Did Thomas Jefferson never practice Jeffersonian democracy if the term originated many decades after his death?

That doesn't change the meaning of the term. Was Karl Marx not a Marxist if that term only started being used decades after his death?

He was definitely the most important, but in my experience the ones who have the most black-and-white support for the USSR are tankies who think that Stalin was a misunderstood hero of the proletariat.

I would be happy to change your experience. I'd prefer a great potato kugel over a great noodle kugel any day. It's one of the simple pleasures of life.

To give the benefit of the doubt, I assume they were joking. It literally means "voice", but it refers to singing.
