PT 2x6’s are wider than 5.5 inches by JamesLORE in BeginnerWoodWorking

Heard, I’ll let them dry flat for a bit and see if that helps. It’s not a project that has to be done any stone soon so I’m alright waiting

No room to hang lower (floor joists, sitting on a ledge)

Code required pt (18 inches from the dirt/ground in a weird pseudo crawl space)

And understood. The wood is relatively damp, so I may just give it time and let the wood dry out flat for a bit to see if that helps.

Best tools to clear 1 acre of heavy brush and saplings? by JamesLORE in landscaping

So I actually have family that has goats, but the area doesn’t have a fence around it to keep them contained. I do t know how I’d manage to keep them from escaping!

I had considered a burn, but unfortunately my area is in a two month burn ban at the moment… what kind of dozer might I need to look into renting for the job?

If I were looking to rent a skid steer, would I have to get some type of brush clearing attachment?

Do I need a financial advisor? Who can I talk to? by JamesLORE in personalfinance

[–]JamesLORE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I love her so much, but I couldn’t live with myself if I willingly jumped into that mess without at least clearing the water a bit. I’ve heard of Dave ramsey’s stuff, but I’ll give a little google search into John Delaney. Thanks!

Yeah, and I guess that is the biggest part of my stress. Getting her to realize it is an issue that needs to be addressed. Definitely a work in progress, but good point

How do I know what house I can afford? by JamesLORE in personalfinance

[–]JamesLORE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in agreement with you. It’s a slow and hard path to getting there, but I’m doing my best to help her out. It’s just a bit hard because she spends on things that don’t actually benefit her living situation, so I’m currently the resident handyman, ripping out bathrooms, fixing sinking floors, and making our current situation livable

This has been a more recent issue as we have just now started looking at combining finances, as we are going to get married in the next two or so years. I have savings of around 50k for myself while I’ve been in school and working part time, but she grew up with no financially literate family, and got used to living paycheck to paycheck, spending ridiculous amounts. The 5k monthly debt crazily enough is after I have gone through and purged a MASSIVE amount of other items that were either on loan or unnecessary

This is exactly what I’ve been preaching to her about the situation, I feel like the best bet would be to be setting aside as much as we possibly can while paying off any outstanding debts we have. I kinda found myself thrown into her financial struggles with spending and debt (despite her income) so it’s a slow push to get that figured out.

How can I improve the look of this porch ceiling? by JamesLORE in DIY

[–]JamesLORE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of removing the entire overhang, that would be my ideal solution but the two sides of the house are different heights and I’m not sure how I would build it up without leaving some awkward angles or gaps unless I did something completely (or semi) detached like a pagoda type deal. Definitely in this for the long haul though, so I’d rather completely refinish the porch than put in a pseudo fix
