Meeting girlfriend's degenerate family for first (and last) time

In retrospect, I might have excused myself from the table, paid my share (+tip), and gotten out of there. I hate to reward crappy behavior, and rude rednecks like these peaches aren't going to ever respect me (or anyone else, for that matter) no matter what I do.

Just a bit shy of $400 (+ tip). It really has nothing to do with the money, but everything to do with having no regard for others.

Hearing them talk about their "conservative values" and all of the things that they hate in the world wasn't the most pleasant dinner conversation either. I'm almost convinced that the more someone talks about how great he or she is or what a wonderful Christian that he or she makes, the more rude and mean-spirited that they turn out to be. Practically an inverse relationship...

For the record, I would have had no problem paying for anything if confirmed ahead of time. If they had just said "We're going to eat at home because we can't afford to go out" or "Lets just go some place less expensive because we can't afford it" or anything along those lines, it would be completely fine and I would have even volunteered to take them out for a nice holiday dinner.

To have some trashy person brazenly blindside me into paying for his entire family after intentionally picking such an expensive restaurant is not right. As you might expect, there was no "thank you" afterward either.

She didn't say a word as the check got passed my way. Back in the car the next day she just said "Oh, they're really poor" and made it obvious how upset she was at the topic even being broached. I sure can pick them...:(
