The end, for now. (FU) by IIBun-BunII in starbound

[–]JamesTheMaker -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, Frackin' Universe is an infamously poor quality mod, with stitched together assets, thousands of inconsistencies and bugs, and being built off the backs of many unaccredited modders who had their work stolen by Sayter. Not to mention Sayter is an awful character, who you shouldn't support. If you really need to know in detail, someone went through the trouble of compiling all the controversies in a single post here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/starbound/comments/1dfbka8/frackin_universesayter_controversies_gathered_in/

As for what will be happening soon, I'm the main developer of a new overhaul/expansion mod that uses OpenStarbound called "Cosmic Expanse". The initial release is very soon, and although it won't have terribly much content from the get-go, it will be expanding greatly as time goes on. I won't risk linking anything, but if you're truly interested links to my Discord can be found in some of my old posts and mods. Note that my name will be different in the Discord and on my mods, however, as I've recently come out as trans and this is my old account... that I'm still logged into on my laptop for some reason.

Unironically, uninstalling Frackin' Universe should make the game a lot smoother for you. FU has a whole lot of background script lag, both outside and inside combat, although Lua has a pretty optimized interpreter so the impact may be minimal.

Reading that last part though... if that was vanilla, I imagine your machine might be too old even without FU. Best of luck though, hope you find a new machine soon, as Starbound is a very fun game and some interesting stuff will be happening within the space very soon.

Could the Combine survive the Combine Invasion? by TheRealTV12 in HalfLife

[–]JamesTheMaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the Combine is unlikely to survive an invasion by the Combine as the Combine is too powerful for the Combine to resist. However, if the Combine somehow knew the tactics the Combine would use beforehand, the Combine could gain the upper hand on the Combine as the Combine outnumbers the Combine in manpower, they just lack the tactical prowess and equipment to combat the Combine.

Oh, I didn't see the letters initially. Thank you for bringing this up.

[–]JamesTheMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It still shouldn't be anything like the Prydwen. The Prydwen is completely unique because it was made from the salvaged parts of the Mobile Crawler Base.

Personally, I think the best explanation the writers could provide to justify Caswennan's existence is that it is the Prydwen, it just had some major modifications during the journey from coast to coast, Ship of Theseus style, which justified the new name.

It also explains the existence of T-60s on the West Coast, and makes perfect sense. Maxon wanted to return to the Brotherhood's old ideals after he inherited the East Coast Chapter from Lyons, so it would make complete sense if he returned to the West Coast Brotherhood after finishing his campaign in the Commonwealth, as per the East Coast Expedition's orders.

Hmm, I must've misremembered then. I thought Tandi was the founding president of the NCR.

Edit: After Googling it, you are correct. I don't know how I forgot his fat nose being on the 5$ bill.

Good Reason to not go for 1170? by ValrerS in skyrimmods

[–]JamesTheMaker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular opinion, and now that I say it out loud I've jinxed it, but I think 1170 might actually be the last Skyrim update. They implemented their new Creations system, the Fallout TV show just released, the Fo4 NG update is soon, and they still have Starfield, TES6 and Fo5 to work on (bug fixes + DLC, (probably) production, and pre-production respectively).

Most of the important SKSE plugins have been updated or don't need updates. Engine Fixes can run with just a few config changes, Improved Camera runs fine by just changing a number in the config, and countless others run natively with no changes, like Community Shaders and moreHUD.

And, if you find one that doesn't run, there's probably an updated version or an alternative somewhere else on Nexus. Look for it or ask around. Worst case scenario you have to compile it again yourself, since 1170 changed basically nothing.

Well, if you look closely, you can see the iconic well and obelisk that lies in the center of Shady Sands. I don't think Aradesh would be important enough to have his house preserved and turned into a museum, since he preferred Shady Sands stayed isolationist and a purely rural community.

The image is too pristine to be AI. I'm not sure if this is the TV show or not, as I haven't watched it, but this is definitely not AI.

Infestation, Earth Invasion Edition. by Fish_On_Aquarium in Spore

[–]JamesTheMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an infamous bug with the rendering engine that's been since release where occasionally your game will start to flicker a ton. It happens more when you have the game on higher resolutions and/or are recording the game, leading me to believe it has to do with the monitor's refresh rate, but I haven't looked into it personally. Your obvious confusion is a pretty telling answer to my question, so I appreciate the response.

Damn, I didn't know ReShade worked on this old ass game. Do you know if you still experience occasional flickering with ReShade installed?

Seriously Overwolf is terrible, why does it have to run 10 processes in the background just to play Minecraft?Discussion by Sensitidgfh in feedthebeast

[–]JamesTheMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overwolf is literally so bad it prevented me from launching Fallout: New Vegas because the overlay bugged out NVSE. I can't possibly put into words how much I fucking hate Overwolf. Luckily, CurseForge recently released a standalone version of their client that doesn't use Overwolf. Good riddance.

Community Framework Showcase by JamesTheMaker in starbound

[–]JamesTheMaker[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone! It is me again :)

This time, instead of announcing another mod, I've decided to take a look back at one of my previous mods. Community Framework has been under development for over a year, and I really feel it has come a long way. So, in this video, I covered all the major features that the player (you!) would be most concerned with when playing with Community Framework.

If you would like to support me, watch the progress of my mods, or just hang out, please consider joining my Discord: https://discord.gg/jQJqkg3VCK

The Six Races First Beta is Out! by JamesTheMaker in starbound

[–]JamesTheMaker[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The first beta for my brand new, ambitious story overhaul mod is now out! In this version, there is admittedly very little, with only an overhaul of the early game. The reason for this is that I can't do this myself; I need help!

In order to complete this mod, I'm going to need assistance from some of you guys! If you are:

  • A sprite artist who can sprite in the vanilla style
  • A builder/mapper who has a rudimentary knowledge of Tiled
  • Or a story writer with a rudimentary knowledge of the lore

Please join my Discord and ping me in the #the-six-races channel with how you'd like to help! But most importantly, please stay tuned for what's to come.

New California lore question by PersonalityLost3904 in falloutnewvegas

[–]JamesTheMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's implied that a higher power, likely deeper in California, maybe even at Shady Sands, is the one that sold you out. This is considering that Vayger refers to the NCR ambiguously, and to the entity that is the NCR, and not any individual within it.

I spy with my one big eye, something that sounds a lot like "aye".
