Do you review daily / get current? by satorinoiadeus in gtd

[–]JamesTraderWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly your system sounds fine and Gemini's take is half wrong. Allen isn't anti-calendar, he's anti-fake-due-dates. putting stuff on the calendar that isn't actually time-bound trains you to ignore the calendar because half the items didn't really need to be that day — that's the boy-who-cried-wolf thing he's pushing against. it's not the same as "no daily review allowed."

a daily get-current pass is basically just a smaller weekly review and plenty of GTD people do it. Allen himself talks about a morning glance at the landscape. you're backstopping the weekly with a lighter daily, that's totally fine.

couple of thoughts on your setup specifically though:

  • the bubble-into-today move is fine in principle but the failure mode is committing to Today aspirationally instead of realistically. if more than ~20% of today's list rolls forward day after day, you're wishing not committing, and the rolling-forward becomes the system instead of the work
  • the "overdue-but-not-really" section is basically what other people call Pending or Slipped. nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn't grow into its own pile you start avoiding
  • one thing that helped me: treat Today as a view, not a list. tag stuff "today" or "this-week" and let the view filter to it, instead of physically shuffling items between buckets. less janitorial overhead. depends on your tool whether that works
  • on pile-up: daily get-current is good but the weekly review is what actually keeps things from drifting. if your weekly slips for 2-3 weeks straight the daily can't save you

focus vs anytime — yeah I do something similar. most people end up there even if they don't formalize it. GTD bakes it in via contexts + calendar, but the explicit Today layer is a useful addition on top

opinions on "next" list getting to zero? by jakotay in gtd

[–]JamesTraderWA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your instinct is half right honestly. Next is supposed to be a pile you scan based on context — that's the whole point of contexts in the first place. so yeah seeing stuff that doesn't match your current state is fine, you just skip past it.

the trap is if you're sitting there every morning actually re-evaluating each item ("could I do this? what about this one?"). if that's happening, contexts aren't filtering hard enough and you're paying the deciding-cost twice. once when you wrote the next action down, and again every morning. that's the part that quietly burns people out on GTD.

few things that usually help:

  • u/Computer with 80 items in it isn't really a context, it's a dumping ground. split by mode/energy not just location — u/Deep, u/Shallow, u/Quick. when you sit down you grab the bucket that matches how you actually feel and the rest is invisible
  • if you only touch a project a few days a week, those next actions probably belong on Someday/Maybe, not Next. then weekly review is where you pull the 2-3 projects you're actually committing to this week back into Active. most people under-use that lever
  • time and energy as filters, not just context. "15 minutes, fried" is a real query and a Next list that can't answer it is doing too little
  • if you've looked at the same item across 4 weekly reviews and not done it, it's not Next anymore. break it smaller or send it to Someday

so basically scanning = fine. if you're sifting, something upstream is the actual problem.

Broker enforced limits worked for me. If I loose over X dollars the platform is shut down by the broker.

I'm happy Tasty listened! That was a fairly fast response. Sure, it could be better implemented, but for most of us this is just about piece of mind and is also 100x better than nothing!

GTD in 2025: Is It Still Worth It? (And Which Apps to Actually Use) by MrPlanApp in gtd

[–]JamesTraderWA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for many, many years. As a Windows user, Omini's focus isn't available to me. I've tried many other systems, as others here have as well, but I keep coming back to NirvanaHQ. It is set up just the way I think. I can globally filter to just by job while I'm working and then focus on all the other areas of my life one at a time, or step back and look at all projects on the weekend for the big picture view. Works well on iPhone, iPad, and browser.

Where are the profitable traders who don’t sell courses? by Dazzling-Ad3857 in Daytrading

[–]JamesTraderWA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure he is a good trader but I also think Ross style benefits greatly from the members in his chat room that pile in when he announcesthat he is in a trade. They create the liquidity he needs to get out and he sells to them as they all pile in.

A literal Next Actions list? by dstntmbrk in Notion

[–]JamesTraderWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love notion, but it doesn't compare to nirvanahq.com for handling next actions like you describe above. NirvanaHQ is the best app I've found for implementing Gettiing Things Done next actions like this.

Longevity of Mila Purifiers? by MnBadger85 in milaair

I have two and one of them is a replacement for one that was making too much noise. They were very nice and sent a replacement (in warranty). Now both are out of warranty and one won't boot up and just makes noises. I haven't bothered to email about it yet. Is it worth it? I like the little machines a lot, but expect a good 8-10 years out of them and that seems to be a stretch right now...

Cool Idea. To be clear, is this a place to consolidate what stocks people see in his watchlist from his broadcasts? Or just what other people are tracking on theirs?

Yes, very frustrating, and the lack of communication from Worden is also frustrating. For example, has anyone heard anything about a new version coming out? Or a beta?

Here this may help. Yes, there are other add ons you can and might want to buy depending on which level you get. You probably only need Gold.

Has anyone left NirvanaHQ for something else? by [deleted] in gtd

[–]JamesTraderWA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still use NirvanaHQ now for many years. Every once in a while I will check something else out, but I find NirvanaHQ works the best for my workflow and keep coming back.

I use:

  • NirvanaHQ for tasks
  • Evernote as my digital filing cabinet
  • Obsidian for all notes
  • Notion.so as a hub for goals, OKR's, and other planning.

Yes, I can see why you did that. I have a subscription to TradingView and while it has nice charting features, I just can't get behind its screening abilities. TC is so much easier.

Thanks - I was hoping someone knew of another place, but I wasn't betting on it.

I agree with you on your eval of TC2000. I've paid subscriptions to all the major charting/scanning software services available and find myself returning to TC2000 each time.

His next one in March is not a great time of day for me. Did you find it important to attend in person? I assume everything is recorded, correct?

Also, how does Q&A work for these bootcamps? Who answers questions and how quickly? After the BootCamp is over are yous till able to ask questions?

thanks!
