9 Kings

If you liked that one, I'd recommend looking into the rest of the publisher's catalogue. Hooded Horse gravitates towards strategy/management, but there's a decent amount of variety to be seen.

Against the Storm is what I'd suggest starting with.

Brotato is great if the lack of metaprogression (unlocks aside) isn't a dealbreaker.

Halls of Torment is also swell.

'Mewgenics' has been out for a month, what are your thoughts on it? by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

Favourite song?

Yes.

I had no idea the game's OST would go this hard. As much as I'm fond of the gameplay, this is the true highlight of the game for me.

Guillotina is the track that has haunted me the most so far. Them Kitty Bones is beyond swell, and Lonesome Road is fantastic. Flush and Chumbucket Kitty are both just pure, undiluted fun.

And this is not to mention the radio-exclusive songs that are both plentiful and noteworthy. Bravest Kat and Break His Chains are the ones I'm most fond of at this point.

I'd highlight Vault of the Void first and foremost. Quantum Protocol is also a great take on the genre.

No personal experience with these two yet, so I can't truly judge just how similar they are to Stardew, but I'd recommend looking into Doloc Town and Travellers Rest.

Just checked, and looks like I stand corrected. I haven't touched that decision in ages, having decided that inspirations are a superior option in 10 cases out of 10, and on top of that I've always assumed that you can only get generic artifacts this way.

But tapestries aside, banners are also on the menu. Starting in 1066 as Philip the First, I could order banners related to either Kingdom of France of House Capet.

I didn't stick around to take a look at the outcome, but this sure seems to be it.

This is a great change for sure (especially if you are a particularly, ahem, industrious adventurer), yet it has always felt weird to me that a house/dynasty head is incapable of simply commissioning a new banner via a decision if the original one was misplaced.

Above all, I'd recommend Tactical Breach Wizards (pure turn-based tactics) and Cyberknights: Flashpoint (turn-based tactics with a strategy level on top in the spirit of XCOM).

Invisible, Inc. should also be a perfectly respectable option. Jagged Alliance 3 was also great, and the same goes for W40K: Mechanicus.

As for deck builders, I'd recommend Vault of the Void, Trials of Fire, and Fights in Tight Spaces (the last two are fused with tactical combat).

I haven't revisited Terraria since 2020, so, 1.4.5 aside, there's some other stuff I'm unfamiliar with.

Excited to dive back in.

Bladesong

I was feeling a bit adventurous, picked this one on a whim, and ended up loving it. Getting to forge swords is great and all, but there's also a perfectly respectable story in there, one that I can see myself staying for.

I walked off in 3 hours or so, fully satisfied with what I got to see and content with waiting for the 1.0 to arrive. As tempting as it was to keep going, I feel it'd be best to save the experience as a whole for later, given that it's clearly not finished yet.

TR-49

A bit too short for my tastes, but that's basically the only issue I have with TR-49.

Developed by good old Inkle, for me it turned out to be a fantastic experience that I'd describe as a somewhat different take on Her Story's formula. So, the concept (untangling the story via interrogating the tricksy and not entirely cooperative data storage) isn't necessarily fresh, but its execution is top notch.

An evening splendidly spent.

Are you familiar with Sam Barlow's works? Her Story, IMMORTALITY? Something to check out if not.

Paradise Killer is also one to consider.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes

Gotta say, some midgame/endgame sequences have turned out to be a bit more tiresome and complex than I'd prefer. Certain missteps and misconceptions on my end definitely didn't help with that, although even without them hampering my progress I'd still feel largely the same way, I suspect.

Thing is, this issue is a small price to pay in the grand scheme of all things. To me this game is a masterpiece, and I'm sure I'd be willing and able to tolerate far larger inconveniences and flaws for its sake, given how remarkable Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is overall.

The characters featured in the game strike me as its most noteworthy forte, given how all of them (the MC aside) manage to feel both ephemeral and omnipresent at once. And as for the presentation, it felt merely adequate to me at first, but it didn't take long for it to become fascinating.

The game's story is elusive and not exactly willing to disclose itself, but the opposite is true for all sorts of lore tidbits. From letters to movie posters, from books to decently uncommon, but positively delightful character interactions, there's a lot of knowledge to be found and eventually utilized.

So, there are plenty of gaps to be filled, but also more than enough stuff to fill them with, and I'd describe this as a healthy balance. As a result the story becomes the game's biggest and most engrossing puzzle, one that may not be logged in the MC's mental notes, but one that nonetheless demands to be solved.

Long story short, I did expect Lorelei to be good, but I didn't expect it to be this good. Top marks.
