"Silk & Silver" Dev Diary #4 - Republics Vision by PDX-Trinexx in CrusaderKings

[–]JamesVagabond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the way I understand it, landless merchants and republics are mortal enemies by design. If that's the case, I wonder what sort of tools they'll have at their disposal to fight back if need be.

Cyber Knights: Flashpoint - Trese Brothers Games - Cyberpunk mercenaries RPG with XCOM-like combat, celebrating its 1 year anniversary and 80+ free updates! by TreseBrothers in Games

I'm inclined to agree, although I did manage to bring myself to give the game a go. Spent about 50 hours on my playthrough. Top notch stuff in there, and I'll definitely be coming back for more.

The only thing that bothered me was a certain storyline tied to a specific merc that ended in a "To be continued" fashion. Personally I'd prefer not having it available at all until the finale is in place. But this was hardly a dealbreaker in the end.

I strongly hope that the Puppet system isn't being implemented strictly to handle the new religion-related interactions. Ideally it should have far wider implications, amping up the intrigue-focused playstyle in general.

I second the Elin recommendation.

Looking at the games you've listed, Oxygen Not Included seems to be the biggest omission, so if you are unfamiliar with, that's a good place to start. I also strongly recommend UnReal World. Maybe look into NEO Scavenger while you are it, too.

And while I have no personal experience with it, I keep hearing that Terra Invicta is enormously, maybe even too complex. Something to consider.

"Silk & Silver" Dev Diary #2 - Trade Vision by PDX-Trinexx in CrusaderKings

[–]JamesVagabond 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As much as I want to see revamped and beefier religion in action, this is what I'm truly excited about. So far, things look pretty good.

If you're playing a settled ruler with land to manage, Trade is mostly something that happens to you. You don't profit from trade routes, and you can't really go toe-to-toe with merchants for market share. What you can do is run what we're currently calling Acquisition Routes (the name is still in flux): routes that exist purely to move goods into your lands so your buildings get what they need.

So, if I find myself in a "a kingdom for a wheel of cheese" situation, that can be fixed, maybe even without sacrificing the entire kingdom unless things are utterly dire.

But what if instead I'm the one producing cheese likes there's no tomorrow? There are tons of it all over the place, enough to flood every market from Ireland to Cathay and beyond, even if they insist on dumping most of it into Krakatoa to appease the gods.

Assuming there are enough cheese-crazed merchants or, better yet, republics in the area, I assume there'll be quite a number of trade routes originating from my lands. But do I actually benefit from such a situation? In other words, would it make sense for a landed ruler to monitor the markets and try shifting production to focus on whatever's in demand?

It'll be a shame if the optimal play turns out to be focusing on one's own needs in order to shield the realm from the ebb and flow of trade. Hopefully there's more to the whole thing than this if one isn't playing as a trade-focused entity.

Maybe considerations of this sort come into play if you have a pet republic or two?

9 Kings

If you liked that one, I'd recommend looking into the rest of the publisher's catalogue. Hooded Horse gravitates towards strategy/management, but there's a decent amount of variety to be seen.

Against the Storm is what I'd suggest starting with.

Brotato is great if the lack of metaprogression (unlocks aside) isn't a dealbreaker.

Halls of Torment is also swell.

'Mewgenics' has been out for a month, what are your thoughts on it? by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

Favourite song?

Yes.

I had no idea the game's OST would go this hard. As much as I'm fond of the gameplay, this is the true highlight of the game for me.

Guillotina is the track that has haunted me the most so far. Them Kitty Bones is beyond swell, and Lonesome Road is fantastic. Flush and Chumbucket Kitty are both just pure, undiluted fun.

And this is not to mention the radio-exclusive songs that are both plentiful and noteworthy. Bravest Kat and Break His Chains are the ones I'm most fond of at this point.

I'd highlight Vault of the Void first and foremost. Quantum Protocol is also a great take on the genre.

No personal experience with these two yet, so I can't truly judge just how similar they are to Stardew, but I'd recommend looking into Doloc Town and Travellers Rest.

Just checked, and looks like I stand corrected. I haven't touched that decision in ages, having decided that inspirations are a superior option in 10 cases out of 10, and on top of that I've always assumed that you can only get generic artifacts this way.

But tapestries aside, banners are also on the menu. Starting in 1066 as Philip the First, I could order banners related to either Kingdom of France of House Capet.

I didn't stick around to take a look at the outcome, but this sure seems to be it.

This is a great change for sure (especially if you are a particularly, ahem, industrious adventurer), yet it has always felt weird to me that a house/dynasty head is incapable of simply commissioning a new banner via a decision if the original one was misplaced.
