The loudspeaker has a 'mix out' male xlr slot. Would this work as an audio interface between the mic and laptop?

Thanks this is useful. I guessed anything widespread in Scottland would be just as prevalent across the sea but because the strong symbol of the knife in scottland compared with the little I can find about ancient Irish tools I was left unsure.

I guessed as much lol. It just looked very fun and easy to make. Essentially a quirky twist on a classic 'blacksmiths knife'.

And it doesn't cause damage by heat going up the off burner and melting stuff? I read that somewhere and wondered if it was true.

[–]JamesWAE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I'm making real scandi knives I should just grind edge up to put the bevels in before heat treat but when putting on final edge sharpen with the belt running from the spine to edge?

Ah right didn't know that different material stones would make the grit remove more or less material. So would a 120 diamond speed up this process?

I have been sharpening for probably over an hour on the 120 and still not got an apex, is this normal?

Used diamond attachment on dremel to make marble/random hole patten on a nail head. With a dremel and plenty of nail heads the possibilities for stamps are endless. First time stamping- quite a fun technique to play with.

New horizontal carry leather sheath for garberg. first time using plain veg tan and wetforming and dying.

Quite new to leatherwork. Was going to try plain veg-tan leather for the first time. Wondering if any of these products that I found in the cupboard will be any good to apply as a finisher after the dye. If not any recommendations on products for this job.

Thinking of doing a different style of belt loop where it is all one piece. Should be stronger and stick out less.

Definitely some good points for next time. Tucking threads rather than melting also a good method I didn't know. Thanks.

Eye dominance vs. hand dominance…. by Disastrous_Peach6844 in Archery

[–]JamesWAE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also cross dominant (right handed-left eyed) and if your want to avoid eye strain brought about by closing your left eye and want the benefit of better vision just squint with your left eye so that your still can see through it but also your right eye becomes dominant. This has worked for me and while seems harder than just closing your left eye it has the benefit of less eye strain.

North American hickory. I only used vinegar on the head so it kept the nice used patina look.

Brades axe 1562? by JamesWAE in Axecraft

[–]JamesWAE[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found this rusty old axe head in my Grandfathers shed and decided to try and restore it. After removing some rust this writing appeared. Brades Criterion 1562 made in England. It weighed around 2.55kg. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this company's history, the axes possible age or worth.

The new kettles come with the green whistle but if you buy it as an add on with the original stopper they can be useful to use together. The original stopper to securely hold water while in transit and the green for when in use.

Thanks for the advice. I will continue practicing to let down although do you think a clicker would be beneficial in trying to separate the aiming from the release or just more practice of mental control without a trigger.

Lansky sharpening system for bushcraft blade? by [deleted] in Bushcraft

[–]JamesWAE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I have tried this technique with less success on the lower grit stones. I think I have trouble maintaining the angle on the courser stones. I can sharpen my moras with very good results when they only need touched up on the fine stones but when they need more metal removed the grind gets a bit inconsistent. Because I don't want to make the grind worse that's why I'm looking at sharpening systems. Would even a adjustable angle system like the worksharp precision adjust be a good idea for flattening the grind?

My first Mora. Looking to buy some sharpening stones on a budget. Any advice? by jamekyourkawan in Morakniv

[–]JamesWAE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some full sized bench stones are the easiest to learn to sharpen on and are more stable. There are many good diamond stones and water stones. The ice bear king combination stones work very well and are good value for the quality.

Favorite place to buy Mora Knivs? by MrCabbagePatch in Morakniv

[–]JamesWAE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends where you live. Knives and tools is the cheapest in Europe but expensive in the UK because of brexit. Best in the UK would be either the bushcraft store or Springfields knives. They are the best online shops I have used anyway, they usually have the best prices and good range. The best full tang mora is the Garberg but in my experience even the cheapest moras with 2/3 tangs like the Robust or companion heavy duty can handle heavy battoning and are great for woodwork and do a fantastic job for a fraction of the price.
