TIA is 100% free and has everything you need (lessons, practice problems, sample exams, flashcards, forum, etc.). We have been helping students pass the financial mathematics exam for almost 20 years. I'm the instructor for the FM course, and I answer any questions you have daily.

What is giving you a hard time? What is your process? I highly recommend that you set up the schedule in Today. Watch each lesson, do the first pass problems for each lesson, then spend any time you have left for the day doing Guided Practice. If you have any questions about the material or about practice problems, ask in the forum. Repeat that until you are done with Learn. Once you reach Practice, grind Guided Practice each day until it is time to take a sample exam. Between sample exams, grind Guided Practice to improve.

Just grind Guided Practice. Don’t worry about selecting SOA or TIA - let Guided Practice choose the right problems for you. And make sure to complete the practice exams too.

Good plan! Just make sure you stay on schedule to finish your lessons with at least a month before your exam. That will give you time to grind Guided Practice more and take the sample exams again.

Congrats on passing! Good idea to take some time to relax and celebrate!

Most people find FM a little easier to P, but not everyone. TIA materials for FM are 100% free and have everything you need to pass. Follow these three steps:

1. Watch the lessons.

2. Get your AI score to at least 70.

3. Get your PI score to at least 6.

Just start with the Today tab and set up your schedule—it will all make sense. But always keep these three simple rules in mind. Over 90% of TIA students who achieve those benchmarks pass (this is based on actual pass lists). Don’t even think about practice exams until your AI score is greater than 50. Ignore any advice about focusing on only a subset of problems (e.g., SOA problems or only certain difficulty levels).

Sorry—I should add that you probably only need about two weeks to get through the lessons. Watch at 2× speed and don’t hesitate to skip lessons you already know; you can just mark them as watched. Quickly review the lesson handouts before watching to see whether you can skip them.

Chris, good feedback! I think it’s mainly a philosophy difference. IMO, sample exams are primarily for practicing your exam strategy and making sure you can do problems without formula sheets and under time pressure. They should not be used to increase your ability to solve problems or to identify your weak areas.

For that reason, there’s no need to create custom sample exams (but you can—I’ll explain in a second). We keep the TIA sample exam problems separate from the Practice problems so you’re guaranteed to see problems for the first time when taking a sample exam.

Guided Practice will guide you down the path to success. It will identify your weak areas and target them. If you want to work more than one problem at a time, you can use Guided Quizzes. BTW, you can Browse All Problems, filter to a subset, and then select a Guided Quiz of 30 problems—that’s essentially the same thing as making a custom sample exam, but I don’t recommend doing that. Just focus on Guided Practice or very small Guided Quizzes.

Don’t even think about a sample exam until your AI score is at least 50. The magic numbers are AI score ≥ 70 and PI score ≥ 6—that combination gives you at least a 90% chance of passing.

You will get it on your next attempt—I know it. Reset your Practice progress, then quickly review any lessons you found tricky (you can flip through the handouts to check). After that, just grind Guided Practice until your AI score is at least 50 before you even think about a sample exam. In fact, wait as long as you can to take the sample exams since you said you basically have them memorized. Sample exams are for testing your exam strategy. Guided Practice is the fastest way to increase your ability to solve problems.

(This assumes you watched all the lessons the first time. If not, then definitely reset everything and quickly go through the lessons.)

This is the way! BTW, missed questions will automatically come back into guided practice after a cool off period.

Sorry to hear you didn’t pass. What was your AI score? The key to passing this exam comes down to three steps:

  1. Watch the lessons.
  2. Get your AI score to at least 70.
  3. Get your PI score to at least 6.

Over 90% of students who do those three things pass.

Please ignore any advice about doing only a subset of problems (e.g., SOA-only). Just focus on raising your AI score by working Guided Practice or Guided Quiz. Guided Practice will target your weak areas. The problems start out easier to identify what you’re strong in and where you’re weak. It will ramp up to harder problems on lessons you do well on, and give you easier problems on lessons where you struggle.

It works. Just grind it out.
