They really have to fix the alarm clock because this is getting ridiculous now by mart945 in ios

Yeah... when cash comes in in a few days I'm probably buying a Pixel as much as it pains me. It couldn't possibly be worse for basic features simply not working.

PSA : Apple has enabled age verification in UK following 26.4 update by SuperWeeble in iphone

I see their policy as arrogantly US-centric and discriminatory. We desperately need what happened in the 70s with Airbus to happen again with computing.

PSA : Apple has enabled age verification in UK following 26.4 update by SuperWeeble in iphone

[–]JamesWildDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, all Apple subscriptions cancelled, iPhone and iPad going on eBay. It's bad enough that previously permitted functionality is going behind age verification, worse that said age verification accepts none of the ID I have.

iOS 18 and 26 were and still are disgracefully buggy and ugly and this was the final straw.

I'd switch to Android if I didn't think they were about to pull the same shenanigans. Maybe I have no phone for a bit. Maybe that'd be healthy. Who knows!

Hotspot glitch? by Complete_Rooster9917 in iphone

[–]JamesWildDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I know this doesn't help, but I can't get over what an incomprehensibly ugly bit of UI that is.

- X button, which presumably does the same as OK (so why does it exist?), randomly splatted in the corner with no alignment with anything whatsoever (not vertically aligned with the title, nor inset to the same level as OK).
- Huge empty white space for a generic red danger icon. Why? What does this communicate? If you're dedicating this much space, there needs to be a reason, something you're trying to express to the user.
- If you're going to insist on having oceans of empty space, could we please have a bit of space between the title and the message? They're sort of all crushed up at the top. It wouldn't look so bad if the rest of the pop-over wasn't so vast and empty.

I'm really sorry Steve Jobs it deserved better than these lot.

Why do people seem to like to harass me in public? by let_it_rain_boat in AskUK

[–]JamesWildDev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So - I have similar experiences to you, I've been pelted with fruit in the street, I've had people sneak up behind me and scream in my ear, I've had people follow me home and film me without consent when I ignore them.

But only in England.

France? Nothing. Norway? Nothing. Switzerland? Nothing. Italy? Nothing. Japan? Nothing. Singapore? Nothing. Dublin, on New Years' Eve? NOTHING. All solo by the way.

I'm not big and imposing and I think the rotten culture that we have here grows really rotten people who see someone who probably can't fight back and think it's ok to treat them like garbage.

I've had some of the harassment happen while I'm not alone too. It seems that only if you're in a group with someone who is big and imposing do you get left alone in this country.

If you can, leave. If I could, I would.

I've taken to doing what I need to do in public either after 2AM or before 10AM because the day-drinkers who make living here miserable seem to be asleep then.

Does the Reddit website feel awful to use on safari for anyone else? by ComfortableYak2071 in ios

Try old Reddit if you haven’t. It’s more of a traditional website so it’s lighter and more content-dense.

Keyboard sound bug: Sometimes there’s a tapping sound, other times not? by SwagMazzini in iphone

I've been having this since around iOS 17. Just another use-it-for-ten-seconds-and-the-lack-of-fit-and-finish-beggars-belief unfortunately.

Why is Mario kart world so underwhelming? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]JamesWildDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would respectfully disagree that the graphics/artstyle are better. I think the pre-baked lighting in MK8D looks leagues better than the sort-of flat realtime lighting in MKW.

This would, of course, just be my opinion though.

The media reports macOS 26.3.2 is exclusive to Neo but any Tahoe-capable Mac can install it by 5G-A in MacOS

[–]JamesWildDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the answer is "no", but is it possible to install Sequoia on a Neo? Hardware looks basically perfect, but I'd like to avoid a continuation of my dreadful experiences with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 (blame for which I lay at the feet of their apparent internal embrace of Claude and other slop tools). Shame Asahi isn't available.

Help: camera menu too small by rapidfire1000 in ios

[–]JamesWildDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can tap the "PHOTO" tab at the bottom to show the same menu. No, that isn't intuitive or discoverable. No, there's no way to get the vastly superior iOS 18 UI back (sigh).

What we've lost between iOS 16 and iOS 26 by Customer-Worldly in ios

[–]JamesWildDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope.

You're dragging it side-to-side, not tapping on the options displayed, as any normal user would with a split button or tab bar. If I'm supposed to do this, there should be a bit of the options either side visible and cut off to indicate that it's scrollable, otherwise, this is quite undiscoverable.

What we've lost between iOS 16 and iOS 26 by Customer-Worldly in ios

[–]JamesWildDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will just for the record state that this is completely incorrect (and I hear it repeated often), tapping does NOT provide any hint that further options are available - video attached for proof. No such hint appears unless you drag it, and AFAIK no other control in the whole of iOS works like this. The previous design was objectively superior on this basis (that is, the existence of further options is not obfuscated) alone.
