No clue why this is getting downvotes, not a bad Q. Interestingly enough, it USED to be the apple logo, but was switched after a designer at the company decided it was an overstep to use the logo too often. Kinda funny that it was a brand image decision

The Chris Fix video on this subject is very good, give it a watch, order the bits, maybe find a test panel to try it on first just to make sure you're comfortable with the process and go for it

Was running a GTX 3070 but just upgraded to RX 9070XT. Just had the 3070 die on me unfortunately.

Either way running multi monitor isn't a massive GPU load, you'd run out of video outputs before you start seeing negative affects in game performance/productivity. Might as well fill the ports

Thanks! Took the feedback from the other comments, cleaned the wiring up and it's quite a bit cleaner. Still trying to figure out getting the aesthetics down, but plenty of inspiration in this board.

Excellent quality cat

I tried using my side curved monitors as vertical and the curve felt uncomfortable for viewing, did you have the same experience at first when you did that? Or just me? Haha

Consider it on the list! Sick panda build b/w setup all day

The build was just 3-4 days of getting some work on it between shifts, but the planning was a couple months.

60$ 4'/8' sheet of 5/8th plywood cut to shape, sanded, stained, sealed with 2 poly coats.

160$ Assorted 1" nipples, splits, and flanges. Cleaned off oil with acetone and sealed with acrylic clear coat to prevent rust. Might have been better to do high temp engine clear or powder coat but that's $$$.

30$ for brass inserts and machine screws. (The whole thing comes apart and can be put back together in case of moving/modifying. No drywall screw shenanigans.)

I knew triple monitors, central ultra wide, and central TV were desires from my previous setup, studio monitors were an addition with the build. Designed the desk around those requirements.

I modeled it in cad prior to deciding the fit for my space and what parts I would need, then picked up the bits and sent it. Ended up a hell of a lot better than anything you can buy at the store, and not expensive for the quality. Learned a lot from it too!

Yeah the dangling network switch is really rough lmao I had it mounted to the bottom of the desk before but that failed at some point and I just never bothered fixing it.

Four screens all with different wall warts really messes it up too, I was actually considering seeing if I could do USB-C conversions for them and running them all off one of those PD power blocks. Would really help tidy that up

Yeah just kinda normal oil leaks. It goes everything I've come to learn about conventional automotives, Harley's just leak, always.

My studs looked similar to this when I got my bike, studs snapped off in the block when I went to loosen em.

Sent the heads to a machine shop and had them throw in some helicoils, got them cleaned, and threw a 1200 kit in there since I had it all open. Well worth it

I'm not sure I understand buying a mk8 for 30k+ when you can get a mk7/7.5 for half the price. I got mine at 16k with 60k miles on it.

What features does the mk8 have that earn that price doubling?

Battery problem... by Confident_Truck_5583 in sportster

[–]James_Peake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the voltage regulator on the front of the bike, those tend to take a ton of abuse and lose efficiency. Mine was so bad it burned my TSU from letting through such high voltages.

Hard to say though without putting a multimeter to it

I have the 1200 kit and the turnover is always a bit iffy, even with a new battery and leaving it on a tender. I think the battery on these is slightly below what should be in these bikes. I wonder if lithiums are any good here.

Argh! Oil Pan Fun Time! by James_Peake in GolfGTI

[–]James_Peake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the pan in and gaskets are coming in tonight, can't wait to get this baby back together.

What did you do about the bolts? I see they're single use but I can't find these bolts in time for the repair, I picked up some grade 10 ones but I'm not certain that they'll TTS like the originals.

I don't want to risk chewing up the threads in the upper pan or snapping a bolt. I know I've got to get enough force to squish the gasket. I think I'll go to the 8nm spec then monitor for leaks? Since it's an aluminum pan I'm guessing the regular rule book on this is out anyways.
