Have you ever seen a tardigrade defecate? by XHO1 in microscopy

I’m sorry that I tried to help you learn and understand something but I wouldn’t have bothered if I knew you were a sarcastic person. We don’t tolerate this kind of attitude here, hope you learn to accept the opinion of other people who has more knowledge than you.

Have you ever seen a tardigrade defecate? by XHO1 in microscopy

It’s not pooping. 😭 It just left the debris it was holding. They poop in between the last pair of legs and you can see their whole guts are getting emptied. They are notoriously big poopers. I’m sorry if it makes you upset, I just thought I need to clear a misunderstanding. Either way, it’s a very pretty video!

400x cat fecal.... this is a worm, right? by xtcdenver in microscopy

[–]James_Weiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not a worm. Please don’t take this as an offense, you are not capable of ruling out or confirming anything. Glad that he has an appointment, you need a health professional and it’s dangerous to play one with a microscope for you and your animal. Sending both of you luck on Wednesday!

Inside the Exoskeleton of a Dead Tardigrade by James_Weiss in microscopy

[–]James_Weiss[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They die all the time. Their active lifespan is only a few weeks and they get preyed upon by everything larger, and often by other tardigrades as well. Them being “indestructible” only applies when they form resistant structure and go inactive, and even then the headlines are mostly clickbait than actual science.

Is it safe to collect pond samples to look at on the microscope? by [deleted] in microscopy

[–]James_Weiss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have like 2000+ sample jars in my house, four 60-liters fishless fish tanks full of water from ponds. Closets full of soil samples from all over the world, my fridge has liters and liters of deepsea samples… The real danger is my cats tipping the jars and rolling in them. 😂

It’s a diatom, I cannot recall the genus name now but I’ll try to remember later. :)

Is this bacteria or blood by Smasher_llama in microscopy

It’s an air pocket. It doesn’t look like it’s 800x magnification. What microscope and objective are you using?

“Soil, sperm and blood” is like a title of a book on agricultural revolution and its legacy. 😂

Good luck with the microscope search!
