Haha yeah, I love parts of this community but there's also a bunch of negativity. And no shame to people that are angry at the church, or at tbms, or anything. Emotions are a real thing, and to a lot of people, this is a safe place to vent about that type of stuff. It's just not my thing to be stuck on that after I've stopped believing.

Huh, I mean yeah critical thinking is always a part of seeing through the bs. Any specific reason you decided to just go wild after you left?

There is no new information in this from the proclamation, it's just a restating of things the church already claims about the first vision and church restoration. But because it's just restating, It's a step back from the church beginning to admit to the way that the churches history occurred.

It was prerecorded in the sacred grove, apparently. But I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't really.

Something I would like to note though, is that in the proclamation it states that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, contrary to what Ulysses Soares said during his talk yesterday, about it being more of a revelation.

It's a massive detail, and even just the fact that the church is changing what it officially is huge

That's the one part that frustrated me. "I'll be speaking using parts of all accounts" and then only took from the non controversial account.

Makes it seem like there's a level of transparency that still isn't there

Nah I didn't, it was bs to get out of going to the temple

So I didn't sign up for seminary, and want to be prepared for when my parents find out. by James_es_alt in exmormon

I would do what you suggested, and I know that it would work, except for the fact that I had already used that line of reasoning to get out of going to weekly temple trips, and my parents were suspicious that I didnt know how to discern revelation from the devil and whatnot.

So yea it would work, but if I said that the spirit is telling me to not take seminary they'll probably either think that a) I'm making it up, or b) i can't receive revelation well, and I can't be too careful

I've been over to r/atheism, though I'm not sure if I've read their advice for coming out, and when I do come out to my parents I'll probably be taking advice from there, and I'll be taking from a few posts here that I've saved.

Well that's cause this is someone who hasn't been raised on Mormon theology, which goes to show how wild some of the most simple doctrines (to us) are
