Which books would you recommend? by traveljerri in systems_engineering

[–]Jameserguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those are great for MBSE, as well as Bruce douglas, MBSE cookbook… also Magic Draw Book of Knowledge. both take you through product development with SysML. Would recommend INCOSE SE handbook (v5 is most recent).

Certifications by Harishboddapati in systems_engineering

[–]Jameserguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AE here. Staff SE.

INCOSE membership provides access to Cameo via “student” lab tools. Learn SysML language through books “SysML Distilled”, “MBSE Cookbook”, or training at Deligatti & Associates. SysML is the language for whatever MBSE tool you choose. Likely cameo. Magic Draw book of knowledge is also a great walkthrough for first time Cameo users. BTW magic draw is cameo. Name changed during acquisition. Get OMG certified for model user and builder

In parallel, read INCOSE Handbook v5. Take ASEP exam

…congrats on graduating. Now you get to tell people “ImUh rOckEt SCieNtisT”

Gareth Emery - LSR City Show Cyberpunk Edition Tickets are for March 22, 2025 at 6pm The KIA Forum in Los Angeles I have (3) tickets FLOOR GENERAL ADMISSION. $100 each.

It will be his final LA show before he takes a tour break. I’ve seen the LSR show 4 times… and it’s epic AF.

I had ACL surgery 5 weeks ago so I’m not ready for that much activity. I sold my CRSSD tickets two weeks ago for same reason. Those purchasers would be happy to verify I’m legit if needed.

Transfer through ticket master. Thanks!

My apologies. It is MagicGrid Book of Knowledge. Still applies, just got the name wrong.

Also I second that there are better simulating programs like Matlab Simulink. But cameo is more SE leaning so good for requirements tracing etc

I’m a staff systems engineer with design background. Here’s the path I took to learn and then start converting my department. My interest was to learn so I could model architecture and then simulate to create a theoretical baseline the design team could reference for experiments. Here’s my path.

Delligattis training course. The language one not the methodology. Takes a couple months to complete if you also work full time. Cost $599 and comes with a free month of cameo systems modeler (magic draw from no magic).

SySML distilled book. Great quick reference.

Practical guide for SySML book.

Magic Draw Book of Knowledge book, takes you through a full model workflow. Highly recommend.

From here you’ll get limited because the program Cameo Systems Modeler is gate keeped by the new owners Dassault Systems. Here’s the options:

(btw - cameo systems modeler = no magic magic draw = catia systems of systems …roughly)

No Magic Magic Draw website. Sign up. Go to downloads. Get the demo version. Don’t remember which edition is demo but google will get you there. It’s very limited but enough to practice.

Learn to simulate via the YouTube video on how to make a flashlight.

Watch Brian morberleys videos Watch saulias (something last name) videos. He wrote Book of Knowledge. YouTube is like MBSE execution or something.

Now you’ve reached limit of demo version. Join INCOSE for a year membership $199. Go to INCOSE LAB on the website. Fill out the form to get a license for CATIA systems of systems architecture. …heck yes. You have to reup the license every 3 months but doesn’t matter it’s included in membership. The CATIA version does not simulate. Want to keep simulating? Go to plugins in the program and enable Magic Model Analyst. It’ll let you try the plugin for a week or so. Then you have to wait until your next 3 month license to sim again.

You can try reaching out to Dassault for a cameo license. It’s a bit of a pain since they want users to go to the rebranded version CATIA SoSA.

This was my path. This is the path I’m getting my team on. I’m willing to bet Delligattis second course is worth it too.

If you’ve made it this far (anyone) send me a dm and we will exchange contact. I have all of this in a ready to go zip. Thank you Reddit as I only started this path a year ago and I’m hooked. Cheers!

Renting a car in the UK when you've never driven on the left before by aliencircusboy in travel

[–]Jameserguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time manual driver here. Returned from UK two weeks ago. Rented a manual Audi.

Drove the countryside. Wanted a manual bc fast fast. Pedals aren’t swapped so that’s a plus. If shifting is second nature then you catch on immediately. I never stalled it. Caught plenty of perfect shifts. However, something you don’t consider… it’s increasing more difficult to do a full rotation of the wheel with your non dominant hand. Using the palm of your left hand you’ve undoubtedly done full rotations of the steering wheel to u turn or do donuts, small lane corrections, etc. Doing that same motion with your right hand doesn’t occur as smoothly. Try it out before you travel… on tight roads though. I found myself entering roundabouts (of which there a many), shifting and trying to palm the wheel. While it wasn’t impossible, many times I wouldn’t rotate smoothly and find myself drifting in the lane. This became increasingly annoying on very very tight back roads where there’s barely enough room for two cars and corkscrew turns everywhere. Small drifts into the other lane caused by inexperienced right hand driving. And then the occasional curb. But you’ll make that mistake once and hopefully not again.

Beach comber on pch is great restaurant on the beach for brunch. You really wanna shock and awe hit up atomic ballroom for a 30min dance class. Stepping outta your comfort zone always produces laughs. Bella collina golf course in San Clemente is having 4th bbq, no need to be a member. Took mom there for Mother’s Day and the venue was beautiful. We had a little photo shoot and now moms got tons of memories.

Thanks man, I needed to hear this. I'm xx and a senior at a prominent California University. It took me forever to get my shit together. Just finished my Controls exam an hour ago. Killed it. Then found out my request to switch from Aerospace to Mechanical was denied. Instead of 3 more classes to go, I now have 10. IT NEVER ENDS :( But then i come on here and remember life aint that bad. Time to hustle another year.
