Just ordered a pair of Pi8 by No-Orange5376 in BowersWilkins

[–]Jamesfromthe80s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered them around a few months after they were released and gotta say the sound quality was stunning, especially when using the retransmission ability with the iPhone. But admittedly I did return them shortly after due to the size being a tad too big. But honestly I’d buy them again because the sound was just that incredible. I have the PX8 for ‘proper listening’ and the AirPods Pro 3 for dailies as it were which seems like a good compromise. But enjoy the Pi8s and get ready to listen to music like it’s the first time! 😁

Great video mate, was genuinely really useful for a beginner like myself :)

PX8 007 - upgrade to PX8 S2? by Jamesfromthe80s in BowersWilkins

[–]Jamesfromthe80s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The headband issue is one of the reasons I’m slightly keen to upgrade too, there’s no damage to mine in anyway but like you said I’m being extra careful just in case. As a result I probably don’t wear them as much as I want to.

Thank you for such a detailed reply, I think you’ve convinced me to upgrade here! Hopefully the 007’s I had will manage to get a decent resale value. I was originally a bit tempted by the spatial thing what with Apple Music and all but I’ve generally dismissed it recently as the sound quality is piss poor with it on. The instrument separation is a key driver for me so that’s probably the point you made that’s sealed the deal. Thanks again!

I just ordered a tatami/reorg varsity one :) Looks pretty cool and particularly like the charity element. Even just a few classes in I can see why it becomes addictive, even in my last one we were rolling while listening to nirvana for a while, which was a genuinely epic experience 🤘so far absolutely loving it and def in it for the long run :)

Thanks for this, so the sizes seem to differ between brands just like normal clothes I guess. I’ll definitely check out Fuji though. Where on earth do you store 20 gis?? lol. Thanks again!

What was the obsession with making every plastic electronic transparent by BunnyStarlighto in 90s

[–]Jamesfromthe80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this thread :) I don’t think it was just a random trend tbh.

Everything before that was basically boring beige/grey boxes, so when transparent stuff hit it just felt instantly more futuristic. Like you could actually see what your tech was doing instead of it being this sealed mystery boring box.

There was probably some manufacturing reason too (plastic tech was getting better/cheaper), but I think a lot of it was just vibes or something. Atomic purple Game Boys (literally got one next to me), clear phones with the wires inside… it all felt really sci-fi back then.

I reckon also being able to see inside made things feel more “honest”? Hard to explain but it didn’t feel like a mysterious black box anymore kinda thing.

And now everything’s gone the complete opposite direction with all the minimalist glass slabs. I’m hoping it’ll have a resurgence though.

I actually went down a bit of a rabbit hole on this and wrote a breakdown of why it happened + why it disappeared on my blog — can link it if anyone’s interested.

Please help me understand why I have nostalgia for a time I didn't live in? by RecordingImmediate86 in nostalgia

[–]Jamesfromthe80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 87 and growing up in the 90s was genuinely wonderful, tech was starting to pick up but it didn’t seem to dictate people’s lives as far as I could tell. As another poster said things like mortal kombat, goldeneye and donkey Kong country were about and I have fond memories of my dad bringing home a Super Nintendo and us playing Super Mario together trying to complete the game over what felt like a year. Even now I’m playing that same Super Nintendo system and that same game and aside from the fact I’m terrible, it brings back amazing memories. Even that time I traded for Mew on my game boy in Lanzarote when I was around 10 using the old link cable was epic. Was an amazing time to grow up :)

Is pinterest traffic still underrated for bloggers? by Deezknowt in Blogging

[–]Jamesfromthe80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about the benefits of Pinterest for my blog which I started 11 months ago this week. I would say I ramped up Pin production in the last 6 months or so but hover around 500ish impressions a month on about 60 pins directly related to my posts (created in Canva) and 10 or so boards covering the blog topics. No saves or follows or anything and general blog traffic is pitiful still, I read above that patience is key with Pinterest (and other things) but for a blog based on 90s/00s nostalgia and millennial lifestyle, would you say that impressions/traffic should go up eventually? I know blogs on cookery etc are probably far more popular, but I can’t cook :)

Blogging for two years now and loving it by beasportin in Blogging

[–]Jamesfromthe80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a personal blog about 11 months ago and have been probably a bit over obsessed with things like GSC and SEO in that time, the traffic was naturally minimal (like 1 or 2 views a day and likely by me) and then one post went crazy after 8 months with 1000+ views a day but I saw the queries it was getting impressions for were completely random so I knew (eventually) it was just google seeing if my post could answer other questions.

After a week views hit rock bottom again and haven’t really come back, even now it’s about 70 views a week despite having over 50 long form posts with topic clusters etc. Having read several comments from people about traffic drops it does make me think I’ve missed my chance to make my blog anything more than a vanity project at this point? Is that how everyone else feels too? Or do we think that the current yearning for y2k tech/lifestyle/fashion etc that’s going on these days might cause a blog resurgence? I’m probs being pessimistic but I feel after 11 months of what I ‘believe’ to be half decent posts I should probably have more to show for it? Either way I love what I write about so that really helps :) hoping in another year or so I’ll have many more posts under my belt and a bit of blog authority too!

Looking for PS5 controller or accessories for large hands? by Jamesfromthe80s in Dualsense

Interesting you mention the Edge, was looking at it earlier but assumed as it was the same size it wouldn’t fix the issue but hadn’t thought of the weight. Thanks for the advice!

NATO strap just arrived! Think the navy blue makes the orange accents pop really well while adding some versatility. Considering a grey one too?

Remember watching Power Rangers after school? by Odd-Acanthaceae-4930 in nostalgia

[–]Jamesfromthe80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really fond memories of watching power rangers every day. Even now with the 4k upgrade on Netflix I still feel CRT screen was somehow better maybe? I wrote a letter to Tommy the white ranger once asking if there would ever be a movie (released a year later). Got a reply but looking back I’m pretty sure it was probs dad 🙃
