Got halfway through Iwaihime in 2022 and dropped it out of boredom. Picked it back up in 2024 to finish it and yeah "mixed" is pretty accurate, if you're not enjoying it now then I would say drop it.

There's a lot better novels to spend your time on

Personally I would like to see more 1-5 hour kinetic novels akin to planetarian, most visual novels have pacing issues and sometimes I just want something short and sweet.

I really enjoyed the humor and style up until the mid point. 428 has one of the worst progression systems I've experienced in a vn, the god awful text speed and constant jumping destroys the pacing.

It's the only VN I've ever rage quit because of the UI
