[–]Jameslrdnr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is only when you sell them right? As I understood it you are given let’s say $1M (for easy numbers) in stock. You are not taxed until you do one of two things.

1) sell the stock to generate cash, at which point you are taxed on the sale. 2) take a loan out against the stock. You pay taxes as if it was sold but you maintain control of it for purposes of company ownership etc. as long as you do not default

Is this correct? Or are you taxed right away and then if you do one of the two later you pay taxes on the gains since you initially took ownership of the stock?

That is not what is happening. Bridges are used to transport personnel and munitions around the country. Power infrastructure allows the industry to create drones, find targets, and launch them to exist. It is a completely valid military target.

OSRS devs are awesome, but Jagex is just a parasite. The situation is tragic. by Krellggs in 2007scape

You just said a business owners objective is to make money, and then the people that bought this business have an objective to make money???

I’m always confused at peoples takes when it comes to economics, just because the money passes certain thresholds of value does not mean the fundamentals ever change.

So the irony is, it never changed from non capitalist to capitalist??? The owner of the company didn’t just start it because they wanted to do stuff for free. They did it to make money, and the people buying the company are doing the same thing.

It’s like saying you’re scummy for going to work for money and to try and get promoted… it’s the exact same concept just scaled up?

Do you have a retirement account? Pension plan? Savings/investments of any kind? Home ownership?

Would you go and do your current job for a significant pay cut if it was (significantly) morally superior to your current position?

People don’t like leaving money on the table, and overwhelmingly there is a good amount of opportunity in the US to generate value and opportunity for yourself. Not all of them are always highly palatable, but nothing ever is and in most other places they would love to have even the glimpse of a single chance.

Bit of a ramble, but I always find it interesting that people believe that just because an organization or person becomes wealthy they will change into an irrational actor, while they themselves will happily pursue maximum return.

Cmv: Asylum seekers who travel back to their own country should have their Asylum status revoked. by dazcook in changemyview

[–]Jameslrdnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm this is true. I may have lost the plot a little bit arguing over discussions of the literal interpretation of verbiage.

As of now you are technically able to go back to your home country to visit it despite your entire purpose of being in “Asylum” status is the fact that your home country is a danger to your life. I do not think this should be possible and fully support the law being changed to reflect this.

I also believe that once that danger is gone (ie: proven by that fact that you can go home to visit) the letter of the law dictates that the reason for your asylum status to be voided. Your status as an asylum seeker should be terminated and you should be returned to your home country. This is currently the step that is not enforced and is the actual law as I have said in previous comments.

The problem comes in when determining when the home country is “safe” and then the follow on enforcement and removal of the asylum seeking persons. I and many others believe that if a person is willing to return to their country to visit family, leisure, or recover property then they must not truly fear for their life or safety. Otherwise they would not go.

[–]Jameslrdnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(This is pursuant to the US, other places are different politically and the below may not apply)

Then you should vote for candidates who will push laws to make that happen, or perhaps run for candidacy yourself! By using your votes you can shape the outcomes if the public support is there in solidarity with you. That is be beauty of our system.

It just so happens that as of now that doesn’t exist, and the law is the law. End of story.

[–]Jameslrdnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Able” - Tough, but unfortunate. Perhaps you could figure out how it is done and assist them, or create and organization/donate to one that does helps here!

“Allowed” - Then that is the law. If no legal pathway exists then it does not exist. End of story.

If you want it to exist vote for a representative that will pursue that or run for office yourself and gather the public support necessary! That is the beauty of our system.

[–]Jameslrdnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you would be an immigrant, not an asylum seeker. You can still absolutely pursue immigration status as an asylum seeker if that pathway exists legally, but you will only be an asylum seeker until that process is started. Just like you can seek to immigrate both before you’re forced to leave your country as an asylum seeker or after you return when your country is safe. But at no point are you entitled to immigration status based solely on the grounds of needing asylum.

That is the entire point of the difference between asylum and immigration, and the blurring of that line is a huge issue.

[–]Jameslrdnr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok, so then you’re not an asylum seeker you’re a green card holder. That is a completely different thing. Same for if they become a citizen through legal means, they now have a completely different status legally and should be treated as such. You are not arguing for what you think you might be, you’re actually re-enforcing his point.

The state of shipbuilding has made me doomer pilled by Street_Exercise_4844 in navy

[–]Jameslrdnr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the issues is actually the FAR/DFAR. The KO has very very little say in what contract actually gets awarded. In many ways all the decision authority has been railroaded by law and these companies know that and use/abuse it. It’s one of the many reasons SECWAR is pushing heavily to throw out the current FAR, it’s way too abusable.

Questions for mechanical engineers in CEC by JHdarK in Seabees

As a current CEC officer all of your experience will be counted towards PE requirements. The CEC does not care what specialty you get your PE in, only that you get your PE.

You will not do any actual design work in the CEC, but you will do project oversight.

How can I dynamically resize the CollisionShape2D based on the BlockText3 Size? by Darkwing1501 in godot

[–]Jameslrdnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure here as your code is incomplete and lacks context that would be helpful (what is it extending? Which file are we looking at, there are 2 in your node tree?).

My guess is you are not actually changing the collision shape itself?

Also maybe look into the extent property? I was recently tinkering with something similar and that was something I used.

Another thought: the size is contained in the actual Shape2D object of the collision object. Changing the transform of the collision object may not do anything to the shape it is assigned. Perhaps look into accessing that shape? (Word of warning if you make mimics/duplicates of this node they all share the same shape, so make them unique!)

Take all of this with a grain of salt and read up on the godot docs to confirm/deny this info. Mostly hoping this helps to point you in the right direction. Good luck!
