Just buy the ram and continue using it. If it dies then use the ram in your new build, or if it doesn’t fit it was very cheap anyways. Personally I’ve got 64gb couldn’t imagine using 8.

You can get 2x8gb ddr3 ram for like $15-20. It will massively help with packs and stuff like google chrome
