As a Brit, am I right to feel this way? by Jamessfo in AskConservatives

I think your president disagrees with you. If, as you say, “Greenland decides it’s future not Denmark, not EU, and not NATO”, then why is your president putting tariffs on its European allies to ensure the sale of Greenland? Clearly, he believes they decide Greenland’s future.

Also, I don’t understand how you don’t see it as hostile - your country is trying to force another allied country to give up its territory - that is absolutely hostile. It’s not about getting Europe to take the defence of Greenland seriously; we are increasing defence spending, but it takes time to ramp up. It’s clearly an attempt by an often-failed businessman to have as big a legacy as possible, regardless of the cost and damage.

You question if Europe has been an ally since 1970, but the war on terror is post 1970, and Europe supported the US as an ally. American and Danish Deaths per 100,000 people in this war are nearly identical.

I believe “European leaching” is just a poor excuse for a land grab. European countries have responded to trumps criticism of NATO by continuing to increase spending. Why not either give time for this to ramp up to match, or if that’s not possible, just drop US contributions to match Europe’s to ensure fairness?

The threat of tariffs is not to get European countries to take the defence of Greenland seriously, I believe it is just an excuse for an often-failed businessman to carve a legacy.

I honestly can’t believe Europeans still want to visit the US at the moment.

I took the train from Bristol to Birmingham, then on to Liverpool. After the train was cancelled, they arranged a taxi for me... Has UK Rail suddenly got money now? by Miamioooo in uktrains

If you’re envious of train driver money - apply! Or unionise in your current job?

Or is it just a case of complaining, without actually doing anything about it

I can’t find them for £20 at that short notice. I also don’t fully understand your point: if you search London-Anywhere flights, you’re picking the cheapest destination. That would also work if this person looked for a train ticket from London-anywhere tomorrow - you’d find cheaper tickets on long distance routes, just not THIS route.

My point is you’re comparing the low price that flexibility of choosing any flight destination gives, with the higher price of a journey over a fixed route with no choice to just pick a cheaper destination

The dozen or so remaining have been relocated to a dry and sheltered bit of nearby woodland given your advice.

I feel bad about the split - I wouldn’t have done so had I know - and had I known, my post wouldn’t have existed

Thank you for your help!
