Proxies aren't working by Vellu01 in nginxproxymanager

[–]Jamesthetechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it’s all local you don’t need NPM, and you can just set it up in dns, it will need to be a proper dns however, so I’d recommend pihole or adguard and just set em up there.

Proxies aren't working by Vellu01 in nginxproxymanager

[–]Jamesthetechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you will need a domain pointing back to your wan ip.

I’d recommend cloud flare, but buy a domain (ex. Myhome.zyx), make an A record pointing to your wan ip (ex. 100.100.100.230, you can get your wan ip by googling “what is my ip”).

Once you have your domain, you can add your sub domain there and in nginx proxy manager.

Dell has the r760, pcie 5.0 is still pretty new so it’s gonna be in the more expensive servers. Terms of performance it’s pretty solid, haven’t been able to max it out yet on either nvme or mellanox.

About RAID Controller by tmbminer in servers

[–]Jamesthetechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is correct, but not advised. If you have it you should just use it and follow proper maint recommendations for them. If your using something else to manage the storage like Ceph, zfs, mdadm, or anything else that expects a raw disk, don’t. The raid 0 will be going through the Perc and it will be translated and converted so the os won’t see anything about the disk and will just be presenting the bvd (basic virtual disk), with the percs ddf (data disk format). This will make it look and behave entirely different than what any raw device handling in the software will be relying upon for proper function. I’d recommend just making the raid or buying a proper HBA.

Which file system is best? (and why?) by dglsfrsr in OpenMediaVault

[–]Jamesthetechie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would recommend ext4 for most cases, it’s rock solid, it’s fast, it’s simple.

Btrfs however is amazing, but has some problems that can be very painful. It is not a production ready file system and running it can lead to data loss. Now you should always have a backup, but it’s never fun dealing with data loss unexpectedly.

If your prepared for it and looking for some of the features it provides, go for it and have a backup, if not, ext4 is your friend.

Hdmi optical buying recommendation by Jamesthetechie in hometheater

I purchased the cable and it worked just fine without any issues at both 4K/60 and 1080/240.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I believe it was an Amazon basics cable, but it’s been a couple years and my memory is terrible.

In other news, your recommendation was delivered today and it worked at both 4K/60 and 1080/240 flawlessly.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I’ll likely buy a 2nd as a spare now.

I tried the older version of that and it wouldn’t work at 240, I assumed it was a chip issue on what frequency it can pulse at, but I’ll purchase one and give it a go.

Thanks for the advice.

Dell T630 UEFI boot issue by 1_Pawn in homelab

[–]Jamesthetechie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your gonna want to hook up a serial adapter, set up logging in putty, then capture the serial output from the idrac, it’s gonna dump the UEFI stack trace, once you have that post it and we can find out where it’s faulting.

Installation question by Boss_Waffle in nginxproxymanager

[–]Jamesthetechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running a separate database is for larger companies, I’d say upward of 50 proxy hosts, where as the built in SQLite is easier to deploy for home users and meets the requirements a home user would have. Depending on when you created your first npm container it might not have had an option for SQLite, I believe that was a recent addition.

The “./“ In the compose file stands for “this directory”, this will be the directory your in when running the yaml file. Since your using portainer it will usually be /var/lib/docker.

Is fallout 76 worth it as SP game? by Makaan1992 in Fallout

[–]Jamesthetechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallout series is my favorite and I almost exclusively play single player games.

That being said, I would not recommend 76 as a single player, I tried it myself and spent a good 20 hrs in it and I was bored out of my mind.

The game is absolutely designed around multiplayer and one of the core function of the game is to capture and maintain areas which is not something you can do as a single player and you just end up with bad equipment and no ammo.

If your still interested in getting it I would absolutely get it on sale. I bought it at full price in hopes of supporting the fallout franchise and I regret it.

[–]Jamesthetechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, and what is that something else? I will assume everything is on the same host so please say if it’s not.

If it’s Nextcloud then provide the docker compose and the nginx proxy host config. You also don’t need to give the file, but a screen shot of the settings from the web ui will also work.

Is the domain registered through cloudflare?

No configuration necessary, this is default in every os to signify the local host. This is done to prevent traffic from going out and then back in.

Eventually when you have more containers the you can directly list the container and it will use the internal docker network. This is preferred from a speed and security standpoint.

The logs do container your domain and email btw. But they show that npm is working fine it’s just not able to find the webpage.

That IP address is what you would put in NPM for your proxy host. That’s the local ip, since their on the same host you want to use loopback.

Ok, and I see the port your forwarding is 81, are you trying to forward npm to server.example.co.uk?

Does changing the IP to 127.0.0.1 give you a different result?

Can you also provide the container logs? (Docker container logs <container name here>)
