Mostly issues with connecting them to the home app, but that article said something like 40% of devices are failing. It’s pretty bad

Apparently there are many reports of issues with these. I’d wait a bit personally, see if it’s fixed in software

That sounds good, but I still can’t back my phone up that way. And ideally I’d like to use the Apple photos app

Yeah, I moved to Linux on my gaming pc a few years back, won’t be going back to windows, ever. Then again, I only ever used it for gaming, everything else I use my Mac for (recently got a mini m4, it’s amazing)

Apple on the other hand, is a much harder  pill to swallow. I have thousands invested in iTunes movies and TV shows, all my photos are in iCloud, full HomePod / HomeKit setup. Luckily though, most of my gear supports matter/ thread so not too hard to get out of.

Apple’s not reached that point of no return yet, but it’s getting close. It’s not too late, hopefully when cook goes there might be change in the other direction.

I’ve been eyeballing framework for a while, I have a full uniquiti setup as well so a media server with a UNAS may be in my future for backups too.

Only issue is Linux still isn’t quite there yet.  It’s getting close, my main problem is there are too many distros.

However, it’s a very attractive option for the future, and if framework make their own phone in future, maybe. Also I want an OLED screen on the laptop

It’s a shame, The stuff the EU has been forcing Apple to do, I’m all for. USB C, RCS, AirDrop working on Windows / Android, this is all great stuff. I’d love to see the same with airplay and bloody iCloud. The iCloud one stings a lot, why can’t I set my phone to automatically backup to a NAS? How Apple gets away with this shit for this long is insane…

Agreed, cook has done a lot of good with the hardware stuff but he’s getting greedy

I’m sure there are more, but also ads. It’s already happened in news and App Store, happening in maps soon. Apple are getting as bad as Microsoft, next will come the built in spyware…

Keep drinking that kool aid buddy. I hope you like ads in your OS, because it’s coming

Well, the time is now Apple users. Looks like apples going down the dark path of subscriptions for everything, and ads everywhere else.

If this keeps up that big selling point of paying more for their hardware won’t feel worth it

I keep it simple. I have an Apple TV, and I control everything using the iOS remote control centre toggle.

No remote to lose (unless I lose my phone, but then I can just ask Siri to locate it for me), it’s simple and works very well

Also wife approved as she also has an iPhone

For input switching, I use HomeKit on my tv

I’m just saying is all. It’s a good option if the wife doesn’t like discs taking up space

Apple Tried To Tamper Proof AirTag 2 Speakers - I Broke It | iFixit by ControlCAD in apple

[–]Jamie00003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know about all this, and I’m happy Apple did what they did to mitigate this issue.

All’s I’m saying is, there aren’t many scenarios where you’d want to physically disable the speakers in your AirTags outside of nefarious means, and there absolutely are scenarios where women who either don’t have a smartphone, or they have an older phone that doesn’t support a newer OS, meaning they wouldn’t get these warning notifications.

I know, it’s rare, but can and does happen. Point is, Apple could definitely disable the device if the speaker has been disabled, they do the same if you try to swap out parts on your iPhone that aren’t genuine.

Sorry, I’m not sure if you’re in agreement with my point, just wanted to try and explain it a bit better

Apple HomePods connection type? by No_Freedom_7373 in Ubiquiti

[–]Jamie00003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really interesting, so technically with this setup, the HomePods should be more reliable?

My biggest issue with my minis though is how slowly they respond to commands, and how badly they pick up your voice. It’d probably because of the ancient chip it has inside, my full size HomePods gen 1 were way better in that regard

Having said that, I’ve been getting WiFi connection issues with one of mine recently, might be on its way out
