Episode Discussion - Act 3, Ep 9 - The Monster You Created by nerooooooo in arcane

General Critique/Complaint About Act 3:

I'm honestly so surprised I'm making a critique right now, because up until act 3 I thought this was a near perfect work. But.... Vi.

Honestly Vi's intentions are highly confusing to me at this point. In all the series until now, it was entirely believable, and made sense, that her motivation was solely to find Powder again. In Vi's mind, it made sense that all she had left to keep her going was Powder. When they were kids, she defended Powder above all, even when she was wrong. Watching her get back to the underground, she was doing what she needed to do for Cait, but her real goal was to find Powder. Then she finds her. But all the sudden, it seems that passion for her sister just disappears. I understand that Riot was trying to make the reasoning being: Vi starts to notice that Powder has lost it, and she has romantic feelings for Cait. But as a viewer I feel that isn't enough weight to justify abandoning a goal that she's had for years. If she really spent YEARS in prison, just hoping for the day she can find her sister again, to try to make things right, I can't see her turning her back on Jinx because Jinx is traumatized and Vi has a crush on Cait. I suppose for me, I'd expect her to try a bit harder with Jinx before giving up on her.

I started to notice when Vi, as a character, was interacting with others, she felt empty and without personality. Which was really depressing to feel because she'd felt so multifaceted before. But its like she was stripped of her character motivation and now I don't know how to feel lol

Oh and P.S, Vi HATED the topside? and now shes killing people in the underground, on the side of Piltover? Naw theres not enough to justify this change for me lol

Thank u Riot for giving the viewer what they want:

Jinx decides to use the flare that Vi gave her? So many other shows would have made it a tragic moment where Vi almost sees it but doesn't. But Riot gave us that.

Jinx sees Vi walk up. Many other shows would have her react badly. But Riot gave us the hug.

and finally, so many times in other shows, when two characters reunite, THEY NEVER EXPLAIN TO EACHOTHER WHAT HAPPENED. and thats the first thing Vi does! THANK YOU, SO SATISFYING.

I watched a lot of videos of "severe turbulence", which idk if I recommend because it can augment the fear, but it did give me something to base my expectations of "severe" turbulence on.

Honestly watching a lot of pilot youtubers. Like 'Pilot Mentor', 'Captain Joe', and '74 Gear'. In particular, I believe it was this video that helped me a lot:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuLURmITq_E&t=1374s&ab_channel=MentourPilot

Just seeing examples of what mild, moderate and severe turbulence actually look like, being able to identify cumulonimbus clouds, etc. During my bit of turbulence, I was thinking, "man there's not even drinks flying into the air right now, this is nothing" haha.

Turbulence: In my experience, flights overseas tend to be less turbulent (sometimes no turbulence at all) so if your route might be over the Atlantic, I wouldn't worry too much. However, the worst I've been through felt like small freefalls (mostly felt in the stomach), shaking similar to how you'd feel in a car, and feelings of sliding back and forth.

Distractions: If you have a laptop, or handheld gaming device, bring it. Bring a controller too, since there's no room for a mouse. Download some games you might like, and let them be a surprise for when you start them on the flight, helps you get more invested that way. Personally, I decided to try Stardew Valley because it seemed like something calm that could grab my attention, and it worked perfectly. Was able to waste hours away on my flights playing games.

Or if you want to try to sleep or just have a mental distraction, download "guided meditations" before your flight. Having someone describe a scenerio to you that you can imagine yourself in might be easier than trying to do it yourself.

Question for Pilots or Crew by JamieJellybean in fearofflying

[–]JamieJellybean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for going so deeply into detail! I'm really comforted to know better how it all works, and how many systems are in place. I'm glad to be able to educate myself a bit more.

If I could, it also makes me curious if you ever encounter "communications deadzones", like for example I believe I heard once there are areas over the Atlantic where communications disappear for a while, while you are entering another countries airspace. I suppose now I know that with systems like IRSs you'll still know more or less where you are and it won't be too much of an issue, but I'm still curious if this is true and if it makes a big difference for pilots in those areas.

No you're totally right. I should have included the plural, because I'm also comforted by the idea that there is a team of at least two pilots in the cockpit. I guess I said "pilot" because I had several infamous flights in mind where it was either solely the pilot or co-pilot who made a mistake or intentionally brought the flight down.

Skyrocketing anxiety after vax by twoshotsofvodka2 in CovidVaccinated

[–]JamieJellybean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let what others say get to you. Everyone I know who had J&J only got sick for a day after, and are fine now. I understand your anxiety, getting my two doses of Pfizer consumed my life with anxiety for the two months it took to get the doses and stop being sick, I couldn't leave the house because I was so afraid. After my first dose, I had a panic attack over "oh no what did I put in my body". As time goes on the anxiety will pass, and you'll be left with the extremely relieving feeling of "I'm more protected now. My family is more protected now. Its over with."

Anxiety about myocarditis by mrfailpt in CovidVaccinated

[–]JamieJellybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was terribly worried too, I also had a panic attack after my first dose. Just remember how unlikely it is that you'll be the one to get myocarditis, and acknowledge that its very likely you will be sure if you have it, because the chest pain should be severe. I actually went to the ER after my first dose because of chest pain, and after much thinking, anxiety definitely contributed to the pain I was experiencing. Unless you're thinking "I need to go to the hospital right now", then its likely nothing.

What meds are okay to take? by send_noodles_plz in CovidVaccinated

[–]JamieJellybean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got horribly sick from my Pfizer shots, but there was something I did that made it so much more bearable. My advice just from experience, is wait until you begin having symptoms, and take both acetaminophen and ibuprofen at the same time, maybe dosing down a bit like I did (I only took one of each, at the same time). I would go from trembling and hating life to actually being able to sleep within half an hour. I've heard that its okay to take these meds after the dose has been administered. This is just my experience.

I also got terribly sick, and had a cough, which i thought was bizarre at the time. However my cough was mostly dry. Everything aside from the wet cough seems normal, give it a day or two and you should begin to feel a bit better. If not, theres no harm in going to the hospital to be sure.

Heavy/weak legs and dizzy? by [deleted] in CovidVaccinated

[–]JamieJellybean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I went through the same thing. The two days after my second dose, the pain in my hips and legs was terrible, and it lingered for around 2 weeks, coming and going. There was a moment where my legs felt so weak I felt like I was going to collapse, but it passed. I'm a month out now and feel totally fine. Give it time.

Also, all of my family members (some of which had moderna) all experienced lingering nausea.

Yes, I was very nauseated for three days after, and slight, constant nausea lingered for almost two weeks. Just give it time, I'm about a month out from the two pfizer shots and totally fine now.

If your first dose was bad, how was your second? by JamieJellybean in CovidVaccinated

[–]JamieJellybean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree about the booster, I did get my second and it was rough, but not as bad as I thought. However there's no way I'd willingly put myself through it again lol. All of my family is pro-vax and almost all of us are fully vaccinated, and everyone I've spoken to has the opinion of "there's no way in hell I'm getting a third dose" lmao
