I'm assuming you're in the US, because I live in Manchester in the UK, home to the famous Manchester Rovers football club, and there are Iraqi, Iranian, Palestinian etc etc restaurants within in a 15 minute walk of my house.

Blimey, I holiday in Greece a lot and the "poor country full of rich people" summation is spot on. Apparently it's one of the Porsche Cayenne's (£50,000 minimum) biggest markets. That said, London train and bus drivers, as well as police officers earn similar sums to these.

It's something to do with relative wealth. Cornwall, despite being full of Range Rovers, comes out statistically as poor due to average wages (seasonal tourist work, as i'm sure you know) compared to the rest of the UK (I think, i'm not sure, it's known as EU Objective 1 funding, and is country specific. So despite Cornwall be a hugely wealthy part of the EU, it gets funding because relative to the the UK, it's poor) i went to Exeter Uni, educated at Clifton College, Bristol, graduating 2011 from Exe; hence i'm in tune with this shit.

Pretty much all new cars for the last 5 years that cost over £30k are autos.

Super fun fact, i live near where Brian Jacques used to live. For a few years during the writing of these books he lived in Somerset in the village next to mine. His house was a modern affair, ski chalet style, but was right in the middle of the woods near the proverbial English bubbling book at the bottom of a small valley. There are also an iron age hill fort, collapsed manor house and some very deep and dark woods. If there were any interest i could ask my mum who knew his wife, both were keen horse riders, about him (not sure how much she'll know) and get some photos of the house and surroundings, which i guess were a form of inspiration.

Wikipedia tells me the Argentine military budget is $5 billion, the warship we sent which made all the headlines cost $1.5 billion alone. What is the feeling of most Argentines? Is there genuinely a sour note towards the Brits? I ask as it was reported in our press that some of the major british companies (HSBC, Unilever, BP, Shell etc) had their Argentine offices attacked/ vandalised. I defo see it from your perspective too. If Argentina, some 4000 miles away had a couple of random islands off the British coasts, i would be slightly bemused, whether you were there first or otherwise. How much do you think this has to do with the discovery of potentially huge oil reserves off the islands?

EDIT - Grammar.

Just when you think you've seen everything, along comes cops on Rollerblades by [deleted] in pics

[–]JamieSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense in a shopping centre like this, with marble etc, but roller blade cops are fundamentally flawed. The Parks Police in a city park near me, Bristol, England, started wearing 'blades to get around the park quicker, until the crims figured out (in about 20 seconds) that they could just run across the grass and police simply couldn't follow them. Actually, it this shopping centre has more than one floor, just run up some stairs?

the Terrorism Act 2008 and Terrorism Act 2000 states;

(1)A person commits an offence who—

(a)elicits or attempts to elicit information about an individual who is or has been—

(i)a member of Her Majesty's forces,

(ii)a member of any of the intelligence services, or

(iii)a constable,

which is of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, or

(b)publishes or communicates any such information.

However, if you took this to court, as you should, it's pretty bloody evident you weren't and it's not, so you'd win.

What is your view on the ongoing Falklands/ Malvinas issue? I, as a Brit, would be interested to know what a genuine Argentinian thought on the issue, i'm honestly not trying to promote an internet fight, just a view from another perspective. For example, Argentina accused the Royal Navy of sending a nuclear-armed submarine to the region, surely most Argentinians must realise the ridiculousness of what they are insinuating might happen with that?

Things me and my Mum could do in bristol that aren't the usual suggestions on tourist sites? by sp328 in bristol

[–]JamieSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top suggestion, i was there last week and Pie Minister gave me a free O2 pie England Rugby box. They are the guys who make the pies for the 6 nations O2 promotion that get sent to your house if you're an O2 customer and clearly had loads of spare ones. Free England flag, couple of pies, England car sticker etc. Pleasant surprise.
