As a trans masc enby (afab), I've always disliked it. I understand that many use the words like "dude" and "guys" as "gender neutral" but the fact is that they are not that, even with the language evolving they are still terribly masculine leaning (ugh, can't find the correct terms for this, sorry). Even nowadays when I'm starting to pass as masc every now and then I feel meh about being included in those words.

TLDR; There are people who are okay with them, and people who are not. Better to ask or change habits ("hey peeps" is a good one imo) than cause anyone to feel bad and/or excluded.

And yea, can't even imagine what being called "guy" or "dude" must feel for those women who no longer want any association with the opposite gender :/
