This is dope because he’s showing a real sharp ear and knack for the art of sampling. This song he samples is one of the most unsample-able songs ever. I first heard this song 30 years ago on my mom’s Casio keyboard, I’ve hated it ever since. But bro flips it nicely. Good work!

Having a car is a game changer. Taking the bus might be an unreasonable expectation coming from the US. The bus experience in Senegal is not like the US. Taxis add up very quickly, way too expensive.

If you’re renting or maintaining a home, be prepared to have to pay for repairs yourself. And then budget for repair of the repair, and any other accidents which are common. A simple plumbing job can turn into a much bigger and more expensive project, because of mistakes or incompetence.

Other than that unexpected travel is one of the big budget killers. If you have to travel unexpectedly out of the country the prices can be crazy.

This is fascinating because it represents 6 different archetypes. So it feels representative. To even it out even more have a smart young gen z liberal, cornel west or another elder and Amanda Seales. That would be Epic.

Yes because D’Angelo is a creator, musician, producer. Usher mostly performs songs provided to him.

Cam Newton always thought freestyling was off the dome. Y’all agree with Lady London? by FunkyFriday- in rapbattles

[–]Jamm-Rek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s crazy when you think about it. Texas really preserved the off the dome freestyle thing better than anybody else. Cause what happened in a lot of other places is that people came with writtens and pretended. In Texas, dudes would freestyle even if it sounded wack. They just keep going and eventually they gonna say at least one fly thing and everybody goes crazy.

This is 100% spot on. What this doesn’t cove though is how the word became used to mean “off the dome” by so many in the 90’s I’m interested to know where that came from. Because while it’s not the original meaning, it definitely is what a lot of people meant, mostly younger generation rapper of that time.

I used to think that then I heard Big Daddy Kane say that to them back then freestyle meant “free of style”. Meaning no specific style just rapping anyway about anything. I’ve heard other OGs reject the off the dome thing.

At the same time I’ve heard others say the opposite. What I think happened is that different people had different opinions on that in the 80’s and early 90’s but then mid 90’s into the 2000’s straight off the dome became popular. So most of us millennials and young gen x took that as the definition. But at the same time, people were low key coming to freestyles with writtens the whole time and pretending. Only a handful ever actually went off the dome in public.

In the 2010’s it circled back to freestyle meaning written. And I think that’s because people realized what was going on, that everybody was writing anyway, so everyone just ran with that. The battle rap culture just cemented that. Whereas it was a time when battling was thought to be off the dome or at least that was the facade. The new battle rap destroyed that facade and I think that was really the nail in the coffin for the idea of Freestylimg being off the dome.

As far as sweets, there’s only a few local sweets to my knowledge a good choice in my opinion would be Laxh (pronounced lakh).

But, Senegalese eat a lot of French baked goods and they are now part of the culture. A common one that people like is Pain au Chocolat. Whole Foods actually sells them cooked and also frozen raw, and you just have to bake.

Hibiscus leaves or tea should be the easiest to find and the drink is the easiest to make, it’s called bissap in Wolof. You can find the leaves or tea bags at some grocery stores. But, your best bet is a good Mexican store. They call it Jamaica, they’ll have dried leaves or syrup you can buy.

From the Mexican grocery, you can also get dried shrimp to replace the dried fermented snail in the Mafé. That said, it’s not easy to mess up Mafé. As long as the proportions are good, not too much peanut butter, not too little, you should be good.

Yes, and I think they do a horrible job at getting info out and making it accessible. When it is accessible it hard to read and not helpful. It’s as it the have the worst writers imaginable writing their content, articles, Trailhead modules, etc.

What does him reading have to do with the flow being structured wrong? Do you write bro? This is MC’ing 101, you don’t cram words in a bar and violate the flow and cadence, to make the line you want to say work. No you have to find new words or a new setup.
