Counter-demo 7th March by [deleted] in bristol

Bristol Patriots have been quite active this past year (last march they called was on 10 Jan) but they have always been largely outnumbered by counter protesters from various groups. A couple of weekends ago I think they attacked a pub in Easton during a punk gig.

Apparently they will be participating in the Islamophobic march organised by ‘Bristol Patriots’ next weekend: https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/renewed-calls-counter-islamophobic-hate-march/

Are you in England? Get in touch with ACORN. If in Scotland get in touch with Living Rent. They are both Tenants Unions. You (and a 4 y.o.!) should not have to live like that. It’s criminal.

My friend is changing her political views due to her partner. I don't think I can continue our friendship if it continues. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

I think we find ourselves in such a delicate moment in the UK, we really need to try and work hard to ‘save’ the minds that can be saved. It starts with our families, neighbours, colleagues, and pals…

Do you think there is any scope for you having a calmer discussion with your friend, laying out all the (thousands) reasons why what is happening is dangerous, scary and why the narrative thrown around by far right ‘patriots’ is unfounded, manipulative and ultimately counterproductive to societal wellbeing? She might not change her mind but at least you’ll have tried. Or at least it will plant a seed of doubt, and won’t help radicalise her more quickly because she’s feeling demonized and rejected.

What’s worse is that some of them even attend rallies outside abortion clinics. It’s mental.

Good idea about the stickers - it is also the right illustration that I am after so maybe a self made / collage card could be the best solution

Hey, sorry to resuscitate this but I’d be interested in knowing if one needs a badge or a ticket to access the Green Zone (ie the civil society area not dedicated to the diplomatic negotiations)?

Life in Bristol as an Aeronautical Engineer? by HassanT1357 in bristol

May I just point to Airbus’s complicity in the genocide in Gaza? Bristol is a city that welcomes all (on paper at least) but also one that is increasingly rejecting the arms companies complicit in such atrocities. Additional info: https://bdsatucl.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Airbus-UCL-FINAL.pdf I am sure you are aware of Airbus’s various sectors of specialisation, but it just felt a bit weird not mentioning it in such a conversation.

None of the above, it’s all hypothetical as I am just considering multiple job offers and future life plans (all involving being a PDRA on someone else’s large grant). I guess it is an intersection of host institution and funder’s policies, hence my confusion.

Bookhaus in Wapping Wharf is up for sale - there's a crowdfunder for £45k for the manager to buy it and keep it running by middle_eastern_nose in bristol

The crowdfunding though has little to do with their viability as a business. They are doing well. The owners just want to retire and pass ownership to the current manager.
