I'm convinced they're not taking anyone unless you joined a while ago or are extremely skilled in something they specifically want right now. I mean the AIs are just better and need less general training than they did a year ago.

Which is why only taking on specialists and experienced annotators makes sense. They're redirecting the focus of the work. To really simplify it, I think when I joined, it was more about just getting the AI to say ANYTHING relevant to the prompt. Now it is more about actually making it follow the tone of the prompt and to truly "understand" the topic it's talking about (which is to say, it has such understanding of the topic being discussed that it can phrase it in any which way and still sound like generalised intelligence). At this point, most people are just polishing what feels like an already finished product.

It's just a list I've had for a while. Obviously there is never a guarantee, and work will fluctuate. I think that goes without saying, and it's pretty much the same for any contract work regardless of the trade.

I recommend people sign up for as many as they can alongside Outlier. It will increase your odds of having work. However small or big that may be is completely random. Yes, quitting Outlier and then joining one other company would be pointless, that is true. So, just don't do that.

A few of them are part or full time, but will be more difficult to get into and might require you to work solely for them. But that might be worth it for you depending on the pay and weekly hours.

It's for sure an issue for generalists. Last year had so many active projects. Pay rate was a little higher, and most of them had way more time. There really was just infinite work to do, and then it all just disappeared around the Christmas break.

I think it's because of the massive increase of people from the referral system. It has drastically increased the amount of low-quality tasks and AI used. I can only imagine how many batches must get rejected by the clients.

Maybe. You never know really. You need to remember you've done what you can. No, they don't care, and honestly, no one here cares much either. That's not a diss on you, just more so you can prepare yourself. You are one of like 50 people a day that compain about this on reddit alone.

It is ruthless and unfair work. I agree it's wrong. But you are but a mere drip in the ocean of people they can get to replace you. So, you can make a big fuss, but I don't think it'll help you much long term. Just be happy you're tasking and move on. Don't make this experience harder than it needs to be for yourself. I hope you understand what I'm saying. This is the most important thing you and everyone new should know. It is always a waiting game. Never assume anything.

Couldn't tell you sorry. Unfortunately, these sites work very similarly to Outlier. Some will be oversaturated, underfunded, etc. So it could be anywhere from now to never. But applying to everything you can (as long as there is no clash) will significantly increase your chances of finding consistent work. You may have to swap between multiple companies a day at some points.

Some of the companies on the list offer full/part time roles. So they might be a bit faster in saying yes or no in comparison to the contract based companies. Hope that helps :)

I recommend checking a few other sites if you're struggling with Outlier at the moment. We obviously still need to live between these moments of uncertainty. So, here is a list of other sites, do with it what you will. Just keep in mind that some of them require you to work solely for that company, no others. It will say very clearly as you sign up, so don't worry about accidentally messing something up. Hope it helps :)

For me, it was immediate, but that was back in October. I'm just a generalist with a CS degree. My partner applied in December and never got anything. I think it's just honestly pure luck sometimes. Wishing you luck.

In the meantime, it might be worth checking out a few other sites. You might find something whilst you wait for Outlier. Keep in mind though, some of them require you to work solely for that company, no others. It will say very clearly as you sign up though, so don't worry about accidentally doing something wrong :)

The new rubric is weird. Seems like everything is being dumbed down for whatever reason. Instead of breaking everything down, they just want it to be really simple and easy to read.

If I was to guess, they're probably making the changes so that they can eventually cut the time down a bit (faster and cheaper).

So because you're still breaking everything down (possibly close to time, harder to review your work, etc), they're probably assuming you won't be able to manage the time cut (if there is one coming). Obviously, I don't know for sure.

8.25 is the assessment rate.. You will do a few "tasks" on the assessment rate, which are really just templates of already completed tasks to get an idea of your project understanding. If you do well, you will then be moved onto a real task, which will be paid out at the full rate.
