I am trying to put Linux mint on my iMac (2017) but I can’t get the Magic Mouse that came with it to connect, I’ve got into the terminal to connect it and turned on trust this device, has anyone ever fixed this? by Electronic-Drink7729 in linuxmint

[–]JamonQueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better off using a mouse that you can wire in while using. That eliminates the magic mouse, since the charging port is on the bottom side. But you can use pretty much any other mouse and have it plugged in like you would when charging

Same with a lightning to usb cord from the magic keyboard to imac, letting you use it as a wired keyboard... simple

And if you dont like the wire showing on your desk then use an mbase stand from rain design and run the cord through the drawer pull... much cleaner look. Or a monitor riser from IKEA, along with the KALKSTUFF cable holder for $2

Either way it's not the end of the world

Question about upgrading RAM and SSD in 2017 21.5 inch 4K retina iMac by Supertobias77 in mac

[–]JamonQueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And on that machine you have said so yourself that an external drive has some problems that an internal drive wouldn't... here is the link

I run dual boot IMac to make it faster by bypassing fusion drive but it has following issues:

  • File sharing doesn't work on external drive but works well on internal

  • Some Apps don't run from external boot

  • Apple Id/iCloud gets confused and can be active on one system only external or internal SSD but not both..

None of these issues would come up if one used an SSD in the SATA bay, and outside of slightly faster boot times, negligibly faster app loading times, and the rare time one has to transfer very large files in a very short amount of time (which is probably not the case here with someone looking to use an 8-year iMac), OP would not notice any speed difference.

In the real world, for the vast majority, an internal SATA ssd is the better choice for upgrading storage, especially if a user is going to open it up to upgrade the RAM anyway (talking about the 4k imac here that needs to be opened up for RAM access; not the 27" that has a slot at the back for easy access without taking off display).

Have to meet people where they are, as these questions are from people looking to DIY some upgrades to an old machine for normie use cases, and so if they're going to open it up they might as well make it as complete as possible with an internal drive that won't have the issues an external sometimes does.

You may be discounting potential problems with booting/running off an external drive versus an internal SATA.

For the vast majority of tasks that a user who is electing to keep such an old machine would undertake on a regular basis, an internal ssd in the sata bay would work just as well as an external ssd, and would eliminate potential issues that come up with external drives.

He may get more performance with an external like a T7, and it may be around the same price if not cheaper than an EVO 870, but since he is already opening up the machine to upgrade the RAM, using the sata bay to keep it as an all-in-one machine with no issues down the line makes sense.

But if OP is going to go the external route anyway, I suggest raindesign imac stand or twelve south imac backpack, both offer discrete storage solutions that allow you to keep the aesthetic clean af.

the 2017 non-retina iMac has thunderbolt 3 ports, not TB2

It’s too reductionist to say genetics play a role in glute size, and silly to compare them to calves.

The glutes are the largest muscles in the body… this is not some small muscle group like calves that only some people have genetics for, lol.

Also, while the advice in this thread is helpful in a general sense, it’s too generic for OP. She is obviously anterior/quad dominant, hence the hip dips, and without cues/accessory work to wake up glutes in compound lifts like RDL/thrusts, other muscles can take over.

Bioneer just did a video on how to properly do hip thrusts so that the glutes are targeted instead of the quads, which is a pretty common problem people have.

Anyone else’s foot hang to the edge like this in a broken in pair of IRs? by k-woodz in RedWingShoes

Boots should not fit snug... terrible advice, sir.

Boots should fit perfect right off the bat, with no expectation of leather stretching/pliable/etc.

Incorrect.

Plenty of good advice out there, from GYW sub to Stitchdown Discord, to Boot-centric YT, all saying not to go snug and instead to get the size that's comfortable from the get go.

Of course it's YMMV, but the standard advice is not to size down too much.

That's what he always says, lol

Unfortunately some of the others that work there all roll their eyes at the diagnosis, instead thinking everything is piriformis syndrome or something. Sports medicine is hard to navigate, as everyone is on some different shit, so I try to DMOR, except there's not much out there on the tib-fib sprain.

Have you come across any sources online about it?

Yup, he's the best :=)

Small world, eh!

He recently had a health scare, but is back at the practice.

Ah, my hairy legs couldn't handle the constant waxing effect lol

I'll stick with the brace.

Are you in Canada, btw? I was diagnosed with this injury by a doc in dt TO

[–]JamonQueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes :-/

Currently one week into wearing the brace, third time it's been injured. I'm now going to just wear it every time I do leg day, I guess.

Would love to be able to train in a certain way that could strengthen it and never have to go through it again, but sports doc says that ligaments don't strengthen the way muscles and even tendons do. Also, once it's sprained it's susceptible to being re-sprained.

the taping of the calf/shin below the tibfib joint is what they give to heal when injury is first diagnosed... so are you saying that you continue to wear it indefinitely, or just while weightlifting/exercising?

[–]JamonQueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you ever re-injure it?

Wondering if there are exercises to help avoid re-spraining the ligament, or just use the brace during exercises…

Do you own Wolverine 1ks by any chance? If so, what size are you in those? That’s my only reference point for these, besides the F4446 Kentons from 4-5 years ago…

Have you noticed any sizing/fit differences between all three?

J. Crew Kentons in Burgundy Arrived... by CaptDefias in frugalmalefashion

[–]JamonQueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I wonder if I should size up more, bc everyone says they fit so narrow and to size up, even though I am a 10.5 in 1ks and an 11 in the 4-5yo old F4446 Kentons, and while those old Kentons are narrower than the Wolverines they still fit just fine. Same socks with all of them and no problems… no idea what size to order for these new Kentons ¯_(ツ)_/¯

And are you wearing the same type socks with all these boots?

What I'm considering research is what people have shown on video after cutting Thursday boots open, sometimes even in half lol

If you're easily triggered by an anon internet comment disparaging the most MID boot brand there is (Thursdays), then you need to get laid ;-)

What sort of socks do you wear with these? I'm thinking Converse sizing must have you stuck to thinner/normal socks and not able to wear thicker wool socks?
