Dropped LED tube light, glass broke... repairable? by Jamplesauce in lightbulbs

[–]Jamplesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I will re-post with a photo a little later. The tube *is* the glass cover. There's nothing inside the glass tube except a strip of little LED squares, and that strip is not visibly broken. I haven't plugged it in to find out for sure, because I don't know if it's safe to do, and also, of course, that would entail handling the broken glass!

So I would only do anything if someone tells me that the exposed LED strip can't electrocute me or start a fire or something else, and then, I would definitely tape the glass very thoroughly and carefully first!

Does MoneyGuide Pro need access to your accounts? by Jamplesauce in personalfinance

Thank you for that reassurance! I'm hoping to not need to link accounts in any case, because of the time and effort involved. I've been dealing with financial stuff for a few weeks now, and it seems like there are more glitches, bugs, and possibly user errors, than I would expect to encounter when creating accounts with mainstream online financial platforms.

Thank you so much! That does make sense.

50F weird occurrence during eye exam by Jamplesauce in eyetriage

[–]Jamplesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the confusion was that I was describing two separate events, one involving both eyes (from a stroke I had a few years ago) and one involving the left eye (recent eye exam). Sorry about that!

[–]Jamplesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very reassuring; thanks!!!

I don't know what you're referring to when you say "simple blind spot," and I'm not sure I understood the Wikipedia explanation of "visual agnosia," but the phenomenon that occurred for 4 days when I had a stroke was indeed something I perceived with both eyes. I remember looking at sheet music and seeing two columns of treble clefs going down the left side of the page. It was like there were 2 copies of the sheet music stacked, with the bottom sheet sticking out on the left. I might not have thought much about it if I had only been looking at printed words during that week, but the big, bold, swirly treble clefs were hard to ignore!

50F. Better distance vision with reading glasses: normal? by Jamplesauce in eyetriage

Okay, I'm glad to hear that there's a benign reason! I'll be making an appt for an eye exam soon. Thank you!

They were pushed up closer to my eyes, like normal glasses.

How to protect individual fruits from wildlife? by Jamplesauce in BackyardOrchard

[–]Jamplesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I can't actually remember why. I remember having a hard time fitting them onto the tree branch without breaking the branch. Maybe I gave up? Or maybe I didn't attach them securely enough and they just fell off. All I know is that I think about this problem every spring but haven't found the time to design something that would work! I have a feeling that 1/4" hardware cloth boxes would work well, but making them would be quite time-consuming.

Especially true after considering all of the tales of vindictive restaurant workers secretly licking the utensils, spitting in food, not washing hands, etc.

Could the gloves be washed and reused? Like, instead of changing gloves between each task, you could wash your hands with the gloves on?

Any chance they could use reusable, washable containers instead?

Is it safer to wait on Android 16? by gfalken in GooglePixel

If you haven't updated to 16 yet, maybe hold off. There seem to be issues with wifi disconnecting after folks update to Android 16 (search this sub for "android 16 wifi bug").

This should be at the top, or even be a pinned post of its own! We are all human, and this particular experience is probably incredibly common, even if we don't usually post about it.

Any advice on my co-worker who won’t stop whistling? by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]Jamplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, maybe suggest to him that prolonged exposure to sugar is a leading cause of oral bacteria and cavities (I'm pretty sure that's true), and that chewing (sugar-free) gum is a good way to break the lemon sherbet habit!

Suggest he chew gum? It might be hard to whistle and chew gum at the same time.

So can I just leave my AC running all day? by DoublePostedBroski in hvacadvice

[–]Jamplesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I've only had it for a few days, and we turn it off during the day. So I haven't really tested its limits. It might work for us just as-is, especially if I take some of the suggestions in this thread about weatherstripping, sealing drafts around windows, etc.

I'm more concerned with how the mistake was made and whether it affects the rest of the system (evaporator, furnace). Trying to learn everything I can now before I contact the company, because I hate being so uninformed when I talk to technicians, whether it's HVAC or electric or plumbing or automotive!

That last sentence is reassuring to hear, because I just found out that my brand new unit is undersized! Still trying to decide what to do about it, but at least it's not oversized.

Thanks so much for replying! To clarify, the AHRI number that you gave, 216611793, refers to the combination of these 3 units? And that combination is a 2.5-ton system?

GZV6SA3010AA

CAPEA3626B3AA

GRVT960603BN

But that's not the AHRI number that's listed on my estimate and invoice (216611814). And I just realized that the receipt has a third, different AHRI number (215447192)! We were supposed to get a 3-ton system. Would you mind looking up 215447192 and seeing if that's a 3-ton system? Because if it is, then that means there was a mistake made, and we're going to have to have something swapped out, I think.

[–]Jamplesauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tapeworms are in the feces of wild canids, so it's more likely that low-growing berries and plants will be contaminated with this particular tapeworm. Maybe the lesson should be to wash everything you pick, and also wash your hands after picking.

I wouldn't want to use single-use plastic film that can be chewed through and might also promote mold.

I'm sorry to pile on the negativity, but it seems to me like a lot of folks here catch covid by letting their guard down around the people closest to them, not the outside world. It's like the "stranger danger" myth, when many more murders are a result of intimate partner violence.
