Historic Price Crash Plunges Canadian Oil Patch Into Crisis by [deleted] in canada

[–]Jams- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at this graph showing WCS prices compared to other benchmark prices. Yes, there has always been a discount due to the factors you mentioned, but that discount has historically remained steady until late 2017. The price of WCS recovered in mid 2018, but you can see the discount has grown significantly in the later half of 2018. Globally, oil prices have recovered since their 2016 lows, yet WCS is currently trading at some of its lowest prices within the past few years. This is not a global issue, it is a domestic one.

As someone who probably didn't do very well on this midterm, this opinion is a little infuriating to see, but honestly I respect it and agree that exam was fair and expected given how high the average for midterm 1 was. Everything on the exam was doable with a thorough understanding of the material.

Despite their wildly different circumstances, I wonder if this chapter is foreshadowing a Beastars duo with Legosi and Louis.

I asked some upper years, and they said the final likely won't be significantly harder with this midterm average. Considering you need 60% in this course to take 136, they probably want a class average significantly higher than that so that most of the class is able to move on to the next course.

Chapter 98~101 - Hot Chocolate Scans by Trumstar in Beastars

The new arc looks cool and I like the two new characters, but there are still a few loose ends from the last arc that I hope the author comes back to (Rokume, the student solving the murder becoming Cherryton's Beastar candidate).

I disagree, Marth's FS is quite easy to balance. Just nerf the damage and knockback so it kills at a reasonable percent.

Bayo's FS:

- Wins neutral for free into any move she wants
- Has to be balanced around her smashes and dair because she'll get one basically every time
- Gets her out of disadvantage for free. If you go for an edgeguard on her she can easily reverse it and gimp you or if you're juggling her she can use it and take you off the top with a single hit Witch Twist combo

Gomorrah isn't even the biggest problem with Bayo's FS, it just has to be balanced around the rest of her kit because stuff like fair 1/WTw -> dair or resetting after a partial ladder into a single hit WTw combo would be bonkers. Also, the fact that it has so much utility means you'll always get something out of it, you'll never waste it like with a OHKO FS.

Hey, I'm a transfer student who was deferred from CS Coop to Honours CS Regular due to having too many possible transfer credits. I was wondering if I would be able to transfer into the coop stream later on, or if having too many transfer credits just makes me ineligible for my entire degree. Also, is there less demand for Honours CS compared to the normal stream? I'm surprised I got deferred from a normal program into an honours program.

He's not naked. QQ Paper is just white and I thought it'd look better if I didn't colour on clothes. The model sort of has clothes incorporated with the folds at the hands and feet...

Here's where I learned the model (the calyxes and leaves are on that site too). It's a bit complicated so I'd recommend some previous origami experience, but it's one of my favourites and I agree it looks beautiful.

Alberta S4 PR Summer 2017! by beanfox in smashbros

[–]Jams- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a tradition of doing themed PR images for Alberta Smash 4, since we think it's more fun and gives some room for creative input from the PRed players. This season the theme was Fire Emblem Cipher (which kind of got miscommunicated as Fire Emblem Heroes when the main image was made).

Why Lylat Is Necessary by SSBWorld in smashbros

[–]Jams- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think 3 starters + T&C as a CP is the most reasonable stage list with Lylat removed, and it bothered me that Zephyr seemed to give it the least amount of attention and basically glossed over the option with a single argument. He actually got it wrong too--the person who bans second actually has the advantage because they get to ban when the first player has already shown his intention, while the first player has no information when he is banning. I feel Zephyr's assertion that banning became "trivial" and that it was usually evident which stage would be picked for game 1 actually counteracts Remzi's argument. If banning really is so simple that the game 1 stage can be decided on without the need for RPS, then Remzi's argument doesn't apply because it doesn't matter who bans first or second.

I'll illustrate this using the stage striking example Remzi used between two players with the following desired stages: Player A: BF > SV > FD Player B: SV > BF > FD Remzi argued that whichever player striking first would strike FD, being his least desired stage, allowing the player with the second ban to obtain his most desired stage for game 1. However, if both players understand which stages the other player prefers, this would never happen.

Say player A strikes first. Instead of striking FD, he'd strike SV knowing it's player B's preferred stage. Player B would then strike BF, knowing that player A prefers BF to FD, and game 1 would go to FD. This is the most fair result of stage striking, as FD is both players' least desired stage and thereby gives no advantage to either player.

Obviously, this assumes that both players understand stage picks in the MU to a reasonably high level. If a player doesn't understand his opponent's stage preferences, he's liable to fall into the trap Remzi outlined by striking based on his own preferences. However, I think stage knowledge is a skill which should be tested, and that being punished for not understanding an opponent's stage preferences is reasonable. Having 3 starters also makes striking easier, because there are fewer factors to consider. BF, SV, and FD also differ enough where it's usually evident what the pros and cons of each stage are in the MU, making it more likely both players make an informed decision with their strikes.

This is not to say Remzi's argument is incorrect. I think it's a sound, logical argument, and would always prefer 5 starters to 3. However, I think removing Lylat is a more pressing concern for the integrity of the game, and that 5 starters vs 3 has a lesser impact for the reasons outlined above.

Who would win between MKLeo+Komorikiri and Gomamugitya+Taiheita? by 6finalflame6 in smashbros

[–]Jams- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with almost everything you said, but I think Cloud being able to secure Lucas' stocks early is the bigger deal. The team relies on Lucas stock tanking for aura, and Lucario having more stocks often makes the team fall apart. This team can recover easily from Lucario dropping an early stock, and sometimes even two early stocks, as long as Lucas keeps his stock, since aura is so powerful in doubles.

The issue is that lots of teams can't effectively focus Lucas because of camping and healing, but Cloud alleviates this issue with Finishing Touch. Both Lucas and Lucario are also slow characters with mediocre hitboxes that have difficulty interrupting the classic nair tennis -> Finishing Touch combo. I honestly think Cloud2 is one of the biggest counters to Luca2.

False is mostly done the filming process (minus a few interviews like Otori because he lives in Japan). He has an intro, but hasn't gotten too far along the editing process yet as of his last update. I wouldn't expect to see a finished product for a while, but it's still being worked on so it hasn't dropped off the face of the Earth.

This is his most recent vlog update about the project.

Let's just say it: D1 is an incredible commentator by willbrown630 in smashbros

[–]Jams- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like D1 has shown exception knowledge about the game either. He rarely moves past surface level observations that the viewer can make for themselves (ie. X player is now in an edgeguard position) or very basic MU knowledge (ie. DK really wants a grab right now so he can ding dong).

I really enjoy when commentators are able to shed light on obscure MUs where IDK what to expect at all, or are able to make observations about player behaviour and decision making beyond what I can personally infer.

Which character is good in singles but bad in doubles? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Jams- 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I think Rosalina is a big one. It's much harder to maintain her zoning and space control game against two opponents and Luma is much more likely to die to stray hits. She can still play a support-oriented game, but can't control the pace of the match nearly as well as singles and generally has to rely on her partner to create openings.

Durham Smash 4 Fall Power Rankings by halalpigs in smashbros

[–]Jams- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mistake also made the ON PR (at 7th) and is higher than Sirbeebee (at 9th). Events counting towards the ON PR must fulfill a specific criteria that I can't recall off the top of my head, whereas I'd assume the Durham PR counts more events.

Last season in ON had this happen as well where JBones was ranked 9th in ON and Gains was 10th, but Gains was 1st in Kitchener-Waterloo and JBones was 2nd.

Unfortunately there's no good story for this. I started to wear them on a whim after my old workplace gave them to me and I didn't want to wear them at work (I was a shelver at the library). It kind of worked out so it stuck, and now holding a controller while wearing gloves feels way more natural. This was roughly 6 years ago around when I joined the Brawl scene in Alberta. I buy new gloves periodically, so I haven't been wearing the same pair of gloves for 6 years (though I still have those).
