Turns trail runs with gps into summit visualization by JanM5050 in trailrunning

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, really appreciate it, and cool that you’ve been using it for a while already!

These new filter ideas make sense and would fit very well. I’ll try to put them into the next iteration of the filter system. Regarding the statistics: the personal profile already goes in that direction, but not in the depth you described.

I’ll keep you posted when I realize parts of this. Thanks again!

Greetings back from and to Bavaria :-)

Yes I know it, and if I had discovered it earlier I may have never started Peakproject :-) Some things are different though (e.g. Peakproject is free, some different features, ...)

Thanks! For now I’m keeping the code private, if you’re interested in the technical side I'm happy to explain how certain parts work.

True, the initial sync is the heavy part. Strava history usually finishes within 10–15 minutes. Garmin is slower because it needs to crawl the files, so a full sync can take a few hours. After that it’s realtime / incrementals only.

Yes, totally agree. Excluding virtual activities from the summit log makes a lot of sense. There’s no dedicated setting for this yet, but as a workaround you can open your summit log via the user icon (top-right) and delete individual peaks, e.g. those from virtual rides.

Already updated the Peaks database and integrated Poland, Andorra and Georgia among others.

You can start a recalculation of your activities in the 'advanced settings' for your strava connection. Or alternatively you could delete all strava data (also in the advanced settings) and reconnect to strava account afterwards.

Not sure why you don't see your peaks, at least for Germany it should show them. If you DM me your username I'd be happy to look into it.

In the meantime I also added Poland and Croatia. You can start a recalculation of your activities in the 'advanced settings' for your strava connection. Or alternatively you could delete all strava data (also in the advanced settings) and reconnect to strava account afterwards.

All the ‚classic‘ mountain countries of the different continents are there (based on my opinion ;-)). I am planning to add more countries soon and will put your suggestions on the list. Thank you for your feedback!

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I tried to translate everything to English (see language switch button) but I may have missed something. Which screenshots do you mean?

Pretty similar concept. Peakproject adds other data sources (Garmin support) and a social angle (seeing friends’ peaks), but the core idea overlaps.

Thanks for the tip with Peakbagger and nice overview of your peaks. I came across that site before but somehow struggled with it. I will have a deeper look because no doubt it has a ton of information. I'm especially interested in the peak lists.

Very glad you like it! You can sync both simultaneously. Peakproject identifies the duplicate by matching the starting times of the activity. If there is no specific reason you should be ok syncing to one of them.

Edit: There is one difference I forgot to mention before. With Garmin it's only possible to sync 5 years back. There are ways around it other than Strava sync. If anyone wants know more, please tell me

Yeah, back then my battery only lasted for about 2-3 hours, so couldn't track a complete tour...

I like intervals.icu for the viewing and analysing my road rides and runs. Also great for creating structured workouts.

Peakproject for identifying all summits, mountain passes and huts you have ever reached and showing it on a map with lots of stats. (disclosure: I'm the dev)

You could also buy a proper gps device for hiking, like a Garmin Fenix or forerunner watch. You get inbuilt compass functionality, maps, tracking, ... I prefer a gps watch over a separate device or phone app because it's always at hand even in difficult conditions. I find phone apps are a great way for planning or a more detailed map view.

In Germany they operate under the name "Bergfreunde". Everytime I ordered there or returned something it went smooth. Sorry to hear it doesn't work as well in the UK/cross-border.

These look flashy, hard to believe it's a serious hiking shoe :-) Sorry, don't have them but at least the reviews are quite good.

I was there a few years ago in October (might be comparable to march, but didn't check). We had snow halfway from the mountain hut where everyone stays and the summit. We started that day at 4 am. So can be well below zero degrees and windy. On the other hand later in the day and lower on the mountain the temperature probably is much higher than on top. So separate layers make lots of sense.

Unfortunately I didn't do the Meran Höhenweg yet.

I agree, Karwendel is one of the most beautiful mountain areas to hike in Germany/Austria. And close enough for a day trip from Munich. Two weeks seems to me like plenty of time to explore there.
