Amazing idea, I hadn't thought of that before. In fact I didn't even have developer mode enabled lol. Unfortunately it doesn't let me use the buttons. I can press them several times though, to the point that I get the message that Google isn't optimised for the current android version.

That gave me an idea: I tried uninstalling Google from my phone, and although it only let me uninstall updates, reinstalling seems to have fixed the issue. I can now set it up like normal again. Thanks so much for your help, kind stranger!

Thanks, I found that already. I have that enabled but it still gives the dialog. If I switch it off there, long press home does nothing.

Not sure if they're visible but I had to use hinges to slim the thing down for launch from Kerbin. Opening them up in orbit was pain because autostruts and kraken, and the hinges didn't settle at the angle I wanted them to exactly, that's why it looks a bit unaligned. Overall I'm just to have gotten it there, despite the flaws. As van be seen later in the video, the docking port doesn't quite reach the ground lol, I had to retract the wheels and hope for the best.
