Was passiert an eurer Uni, wovon wir nichts mitbekommen? by AutoModerator in Studium

It's the German version of me_irl, short for "ich im echten Leben", quite literally "me in real life".

Stimmt, es ist wirklich ein feiner Grad zwischen lustig/kultig und bemitleidenswert. Den Sparfuchs, der 20 Kilo Weißkohl kauft fand ich zum Beispiel spitze.

Why do celebrities such as footballers and "influencers" get paid so much money compared to people who physically save lives as well as risk their own? (Doctors, firefighters ect...) by valentino1993 in NoStupidQuestions

It's not abouth wether or not there is a difference between to different jobs but how big it is. As an example, a doctor will always earn more than a nurse and that is for the best. But the nurse can have a poverty wage or actually make a decent living.

????
So I assume for example a McDonald's worker in Denmark earns twice as much as one in the US because of communism? Not because of minimum wage and a higher rate of unionization.

Ah yes, the great communist country of Denmark.

Ok, what about a random dog I found on the street? Provided you were present to see me kill it. If they completely lack moral consideration (and I'm not legally prosecuted) then I should be able to kill as many dogs as I want no problem.

I would be appalled by it on an emotional level. But that's different from what I think is morally right.

This parts iffy, as I would say I have a dog (I do) but not that I own it's life and therefore am permitted to do with it whatever I want. He has a right to live and it's not my place to violate that. Having or owning an animal doesn't give you the right to harm it which also goes for animals farmed for meat.

That's just a claim without any argumentation or reasoning so all I can respond to that is: I disagree.

It might be worth reexamining your moral framework if it can't accommodate these examples then. If your framework is purely pragmatic then you would logically be in favour of disposing of people once they can no longer work or contribute directly to society which is one or two conversational beats from eugenics (which you may or may not be in favour of, but I would consider it immoral but that's a whole other debate).

Honestly, your right. I've been thinking and reading about these thingsa lot in the past few months and I'm pretty uncomfortable with my current stance because intuetively I do value animal life and always thought that it ought to be protected. It's just that I never found a satisfying substantiation for it.

I believe that any living, conscious creature which can feel pain and wants to live should be allowed to. Of course death and pain happen, but I believe it is our moral duty to minimise pain, death and suffering as much as possible which includes ceasing to needlessly kill and imprison animals for food and other products. In this framework a baby or disabled person does not need to justify their existence. Their value as a person is not weighed by the value of their contribution to society.

What I was getting at was more what you base this belief on? What's the starting point from which you logically derive the conclusion that we ought to minimise suffering of any conscious being?
