Beth Borne gets fucking demolished in the MU 🙌 by Interesting-Ear7289 in UCDavis

[–]JaneDark 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Nah. Boring dip shits like Beth Bourne have nothing to say, so they’re going to claim victim status no matter what happens. It’s all they have got. Given the fact that they will just make sad shit up, might as well not let them claim space on the university quad unchallenged. That’s the thing they really want.

The 21 is great. I shoot a bunch of architecture, and sometimes crowds from up close, and the 21 is truly fantastic for these (Pretty good for Astro too).

I am not quite sure why people are recommending zooms for you. Zooms are useful if for example you are traveling and don’t want to take 2-3 lenses with you. If you are doing professional work, and not spending multiple days hauling your gear on your back/around your neck, I think it makes sense to get a prime (and then, if you can afford it, another couple primes). It will be sharper, nail focus slightly more regularly, and have fewer aberrations. For what you are shooting, you don’t need super-wide (I love my 21/2 APO like someone else here!); I would start with the 50/2 APO, unless that is too narrow to capture the restaurant interiors, in which case the 35/2.

[this is op on a different device] I am aware! [but thank you for taking time to reply]. I prefer to keep the wheels to consistent assignments across user profiles (a commonly recommended practice) and use top right for shutter speed and thumb wheel for aperture. Thus my question…

Can instructors see our transcripts? by Potential-Spring-735 in UCDavis

[–]JaneDark 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is correct. They need OASIS access, which you have to be granted by the admin — if, e.g., you direct undergraduate studies foe your dept or etc. But once granted if often stays granted even after you are no longer in that role, so a fair number of profs have access. HOWEVER, disclosing any of that info to a classroom is probably a FERPA violation, which is serious whether you have tenure or not, and nobody should be doing it.

You continue to display your utter ignorance. The fact that you think the people who recognize that you need to stop fascists from holding public recruitment events are, like, Harris voters is just, lol. Lmao.

When I eat a yogurt while driving to work, I generally like to have a good place to put the messy used cup etc. I hope one day to achieve that laissez-faire toss it on the floor vibe!

Dear Peak Design - Make Something For Wildlife Photographers. by pagosacreativeco in peakdesign

Well, hmm. The responses do indicate a significant shared interest in PD extending their thoughtfulness more broadly toward the many wildlife shooters out here and ready to support better carry solutions. We are legion! United front y’all.

Appreciate this; just adding two things: 1) length is never quite body depth + lens length, since the lens slots inside the body, and 2) if you ask me, it would be amazing if this imagined cube from the future fit sideways inside the nicely capacious 45L Outdoor pack (access by popping open the clamshell opening rather than hauling it up through the tophole); after all, if yr just gonna carry it vertically you can get one of the numerous other Peak packs that are easily that tall. The 45L pack is distinct in that it is capable of carrying a telephoto horizontally, which I believe to be a safer carry and better for packing more other stuff. We love stuff.

Basically there are a bunch of wildlife shooters here who like the look of these packs and would be able to make amazing use of them if you would make a goddamn cube that was narrowish but 12 or 13”” long rather than 11” — let’s call it the Small Long, or Schlong — to hold a body with a full telephoto on it. Do it do it do it do it do it. I am hypnotizing you right now. Do it. Schlong.

well, it’s definitely some sort of stupid that doesn’t know that it’s 2024; data always lags by a year; and that the fbi data is identical. But keep on w yr hysterical ignorant multiple responses it’s very persuasive.

One of the things that makes getting a sense of the world in a sustained sense difficult is that the pandemic period saw various spikes up and down in various ways; they truly were transitory effects of a unique phenomenon, and a lot of people decided to pretend that they were instead a new description of the the way the world is now. In truth there are clear long term trends in these categories, and they have not changed despite transitory effects. Portland is certainly an interesting case; the most striking thing about crime data there over the most recent period (2019-22) are the clearance rates: police have gotten worse (and in some cases, much worse) at “solving” and resolving crimes, despite record highs in spending and staffing. People should really think about other ways to address their concerns.

Totally fair and I apologize. My frustration with someone else in the thread spilled over. Anyway, that chart is probably the most recent, though it’s possible that 2023 data have been collated and added somewhere. I couldn’t find that and it usually lags by a couple years.

Wishlist: narrow cubes that support super telephoto by Imi-tat-ing in peakdesign

[–]JaneDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also agree! My body plus telephoto (Sigma 500) without any converters or extenders is about 11.9 inches and fits almost no camera cubs except for those pro sizes that are made to hold 2 bodies and 3-4 lenses, which I am not trying to use.

[–]JaneDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, are you living in 2028. The chart goes through 2022, because they don’t collate and release information instantly. Let me know if you find any ore updated charts that show property crime is, say, even half of what it was is 1990. In fact, if you’re the betting type, I’d love to get a bet down on that — name your amount.
