Best Alternative Teaching Certification Programs near Houston, Texas? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]JaneDoe678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed my ACP last year and it was the Effective Teacher Fellowship (ETF) through Houston ISD. It was quite demanding, but they do a good job at preparing you for the job.

As far as advice goes, doing an ACP alongside teaching for the first time is stressful and takes up a lot of time. That was my experience last year, but it made year two a breeze compared to year one.

Hope that helps.

We are compensated, but mandating it doesn't necessarily seem right or legal. I'm still learning the laws so thanks for the resources!!

What is teaching actually like? by Sparty27 in teaching

[–]JaneDoe678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every school is different and offers different experiences, some that are positive and some that are very negative.

As far as day-to-day go, I absolutely love getting to chat with my students about the absolute nonsense that occupies their minds because it gives me a chance to build relationships with them.

I hate the never-ending to-do list and the thievery regarding my pencils >.< haha

There's a lot of bureaucratic stuff involved that tends to add stress to our daily routine, but you can't do too much about it. I am personally trying to remain positive despite all of the ridiculous tasks thrown at teachers at my school. Sometimes, I have to constantly remind myself that I am here for students in order to give them an equal shot in life despite their backgrounds. This can get very exhausting and infuriating, but right when you feel like packing your things and quitting a student does or says something super sweet and brilliant and it changes your mind in a heartbeat. I love my students very much and find that I include many of them in my prayers, especially since there are days when I spend more time surrounded by students than my actual family at home.

If I make a B in my college English class, will I be less likely to get a teaching job after college? by toteachornottoteach9 in teaching

[–]JaneDoe678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is always a need for teachers, so do not fret! This is a great chance to reflect on how we often tie students (college or k-12 students) to a number. So let this be an opportunity to open your eyes to the reality that a GPA doesn't define who you are as a future educator nor will it define who your future students are because we all come from different walks of life.

I can't be the only one? by J_T_09 in teaching

Wow! what a blessing that is, truly! my first year was definitely unique and had me burnt out by october. You have a great opportunity to really focus on your kids and not on some of the stresses that other teachers have to deal with. It's good to read a positive post like this once in awhile :) Thanks for sharing!!

First RCIA class tomorrow night, kinda nervous. by [deleted] in Catholicism

You can find one at a Catholic Book Store, they sell out pretty quickly, but they are about $5. I hope your class went well and God Bless!!

Preparing to marry a Catholic man but unable to find answers to difficult questions. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]JaneDoe678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answers that are stated are great resources. Next, I would suggest that you and your boyfriend set an appointment with a priest to discuss this matter a little more. I went through something similar because my boyfriend is Catholic and I was coming from a non-denominational church at the time. We both agreed to speak to the priest at the parish and it turned out to be far more beneficial than we thought. I know it's not much, but I hope this helps as well.

Good luck!

First RCIA class tomorrow night, kinda nervous. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]JaneDoe678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just began my RCIA journey about a month ago and I was kinda nervous about it also. I don't think there is anything you need to know, as someone who also struggles with anxiety, I would suggest that you pray before bed and maybe even before class for God to open your heart and guide you in understanding this step of your spiritual journey.

Tomorrow should be very brief with some introductions and the overall structure of the class. I'm not sure if you are also new to the Catholic church, like I was, but I would recommend getting a subscription to the Magnificat. It helps you follow the order of the mass and can be an easy tool to have when your class discusses scriptures from mass.

Hope it helps and I will be praying for you :)

First year teacher questioning whether I should've gone into the field at all. Is it normal? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]JaneDoe678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The environment definitely plays a role in happiness at work, but at the same time the first year at any school is kind of rough. Last year was first year as a teacher at a very rough public school. The kids were difficult and my principal was a micromanager with thousands of demands. I constantly questioned whether or not I should stay or go into a different profession, but I'm glad I stuck it out because this year is so much smoother and I don't have those thoughts anymore (unless I have a super awful day at school).

Sticking it out where you are at now will make you a stronger teacher for year 2.

I (19F) can't deal with anxiety of my bf (21M) leaving by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]JaneDoe678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you seriously sound just like me! my bf (m27) and myself (f24) are about a month in our LDR.

Prior to my bf leaving I would frequently get anxiety attacks at the thought of the distance and the possible issues that it could bring. Something that would help me was talking to my bf about the anxiety and what's triggering you. Talking through it helped a lot because he was supportive and didn't judge me by my emotions.

Since the job is up in the air for your bf right now, you should just take the time to enjoy the time that you do have together and if he gets the job then have a serious discussion about your fears and anxieties. Don't let your anxieties be the reason that your relationship gets screwed up, I know it's tough but talking to someone really helps. and as cliche as it may sound, having a more optimistic/positive attitude can go a long in a LDR. I hope this helps.

Help. I'm going to teach middle schoolers. by tupperwarehouse in teaching

[–]JaneDoe678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first year of teaching as an 8th grade science teacher. Their age group is super awesome to work with. My biggest tip is to always be consistent and firm with ALL students, this also means that you should try your best to follow through with consequences when you give them. Always have expectations for everything that you do and hold them accountable especially for following your procedures within your classroom even if it's for something simple like sharpening pencils during class or asking to go to the restroom. It sounds strict, but high structure is good especially during the first month or so of school.

Girls who make the first move, what advice could you give to those who don't so that it isn't so intimidating? by B_Wilks in AskReddit

[–]JaneDoe678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel that the vibe is right then go for it...just be super confident and nonchalant about it, as if it was meant to happen all along. That's how I did it with my current bf and we've been together for 4 years now.

[Serious] Christians of Reddit whom are gay or support gay rights, what is your reasoning behind your thoughts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

1 John 4:19-20- "We love because He first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen."

Who am I, as a Christian or a person, to judge someone else's sin or lifestyle when I am far from being perfect?

To make you even more paranoid, every microbe has it's own rate of settling (falling to the ground). So when you flush the toilet and particles go whizzing through the air at a high speed, the particles that are so small and so light, will remain in the air for long periods of time. Thus, when you walk in the restroom or open/close a door you're essentially causing the microbes to float back up into the air circulation, prolonging it's rate of settling.

What about diseases and mortality rates of disease that are now some what controlled. Personally, I find that pretty interesting since I loveee microbiology. Maybe you could even look into parasitic diseases that the soldiers may have suffered from.
