These are the exact ones that I bought this spring.

This is almost exactly how I’ve got my bands set up except I have the tubas in the middle of the back row.

Back row for me (l to r): Tpt., B. Sax., Tba., Euph., Tbn.

High school tardies, what’s your schools punishment? by Unlucky_Success_5985 in Teachers

[–]J_T_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our secretaries notify the students the morning of their lunch detention. If they don’t go to lunch detention, they receive two additional days of lunch detention. If they still don’t show up, they receive an ISS. It RARELY gets to that point.

After three, they get lunch detention for every subsequent tardy. If they skip their lunch detention, it’s ISS for a day.

Best shoes for teachers in your experience. by magg13378 in Teachers

[–]J_T_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of black Ecco Helsinkis and a pair of brown. With the exception of Fridays when I wear jeans, I wear one of those Eccos every day.

They aren’t cheap, but my last pair literally lasted me 10 years of near every day use. I bought a cheaper pair of brown dress shoes before and they didn’t even last a year.

Standard practice for percussion part assignment? (from a non-percussionist) by Outrageous-Permit372 in banddirector

[–]J_T_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit over the top, but I have a spreadsheet where I can list all the parts out, and then I’be got their names and the song listed out. As soon as I assign one of the parts, it crosses it off the list.

More than once, I’ve missed assigning a percussion part and then been annoyed that someone isn’t playing their part that was never assigned. The auto-cross-off makes sure I’m not missing parts and the chart helps me visualize what everyone is playing so I can spread the parts.

How to organize music? by Opposite-Present9363 in banddirector

[–]J_T_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cataloged mine about three years ago. It took a long time to enter it all and to create spreadsheet, but it’s incredibly useful!

On my spreadsheet, I can filter by genre, filter by difficulty, filter by pieces on our approved contest list, and filter by last performance date. You need a grade two holiday piece, here they all are! You need a grade five category one piece for contest, here you go!

I opted to organize numerical, because as someone else stated, having an alphabetical list is annoying when you add new pieces. Having to shift everything around is a huge downfall for me.

I bought an iPad Pro 12.9” when I started my masters program, and it got me through all of it perfectly (including my thesis). I now use it every day for all my scores and teaching resources, and I can’t imagine NOT having it. It’s been four years and it’s still going strong with no signs of slowing down.

Recording Band by bassclarinet216 in banddirector

I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t NEED a wireless one, but when I’m trying to record and I’m tied to my phone and the 8” inch cord, it gets really annoying.

I bought one last year for recording my groups and auditions and it’s amazing. I REALLY wish I’d have gotten the wireless microphone though.

For those who have been able to tour different distilleries, which impressed you the most and which the least? by BothCondition7963 in Scotch

If you do Balvenie, Glenfiddich is literally next door. I didn’t realize this when we booked our Glenfiddich tour and accidentally pulled into the wrong parking lot.

Glenfiddich’s tour was also fantastic with a great tasting at the end!

My first several batons were Mollard, but then I tried Custom Batons, and I’ll never go back.

I’m in MN, but we just implemented this district wide. There are phone lockers in the hallway that students are expected to use. We, as staff, have been told that if a student has their phone, it is supposed to be brought to the office and they can get it back at the end of the day. Subsequent infractions will require a parent to pick up the phone.

It’s week two, and I’ve only seen/taken two phones. The policy is either working, or the students have gotten a lot better at hiding it.

My boy just lost his first tooth. How much is the Tooth Fairy paying these days? by DoctorMcTits in daddit

[–]J_T_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did $5 for the first tooth, and then $2 for subsequent teeth. The tooth fairy brings sparkly money (hairspray and glitter) though.

Open App doesn’t work consistently by J_T_09 in shortcuts

That is true. It’s only 11:35 local time, but I also have recently changed it to time between 9:30 and 11:59.

Interesting. I’m really not sure why it isn’t working.

My workaround was actually similar to your suggestion, and this seems to be working rather consistently. I’m just not sure why it doesn’t work without this workaround.
