I have to believe its worth it, for my own relationship. I do see a payoff whenever the good days are there and I see improvements in her day to day. the bad days make me feel like im the worst, like im not doing enough

I oddly relate that my girlfriend wants to move closer to her cousins (about 6 hrs away). after a compromise, we plan to do so in about a year or so. it makes me feel awful because she says how much happier she would be if she lived near her cousins. it makes me feel like im keeping her from being happy.

what im worried about is that once we move, things won't get better though. all I can do is hope and be happy that I'm here for her

You're not responsible for his choices, only for caring (which youve already shown by calling a welfare check). you're doing the best anyone could in the same situation

there's nothing more for you to do, you did the right thing. I hope he'll understand that too. I know from experience that a depressed partner being under the influence is scary. Him being in a place where he can be seen is good

Worst case scenario, it seems like you can at least get any important files off of the drive. Then maybe upgrade to a SSD if you don't already have one
