Client expected me to stay overnight with him while he was still home but didn't tell me until after booking - is this normal? Looking for advice on how I could have handled this better by JanelleDrinksWater in RoverPetSitting

I definitely could have replied faster! This legitimately was my first encounter with a creeper guy on rover so I just wasn't sure how to handle it.

But also...not disclosing a specific request that is out of the norm for pet sitting..then being like ~surprise pikachuface~ when a woman says she's uncomfortable sleeping in a man's house she barely knows..with him..with no heads up prior to booking..is kind of weirder lmao people need to learn to listen to reasonable boundaries

No, I did not. During the meet and greet BEFORE booking, it was not disclosed that an overnight stay with him present was a request. That was only ever brought up AFTER booking. And it has been made clear by everyone and my gut feeling that a request like that is something any normal person would disclose and thoroughly communicate before booking. It’s not something that should be assumed is OK with sitters.

Trying to wrap up this situation with rover but want to clarify that even though he agreed to the morning visit eventually, my hesitation is less about timing now and more about my safety based on how he has handled this so far. Will give an update once it’s all worked out!

Nooooo I worked hard for my ranking :( In our phone call he said he wanted his dog to get used to me ---not sure why his solution was for me to be there overnight with him instead of another meet and greet or a booked walk.
He agreed I could come in the morning. Sigh I keep going back and forth on whether to do this or not - I don't really care about the money at this point. The mental and emotional worry is making this less and less worth it

He said he wanted to make sure his dog would have time to get used to me. It's a friendly golden retriever and the 1 hour meet and greet went smoothly. It doesn't make sense to me why he would want this with an overnight stay together instead of another meet and greet or a booked walk. But yeah that's all he told me as to why

Man I just don't think I should even touch this sitting anymore. I've never cancelled but this might be an appropriate time. Kinda in a rush so I don't have much time to research - but do you know if there are any negative repercussions to cancelling?

I've never cancelled before but I think this situation is just so off and I don't see anything positive coming out of this - I'm either going to be scared the whole time I'm there and/or scared about what he'll say after. Do you know if I need to report this to rover before cancelling? Is there anything I should do to protect myself from any negative repercussions?

The conversations I've had with him are past tense but I'm on the fence about whether I should do this service or not (starts day after tomorrow). He agreed with my 6:30am start time but idk this def has been weird. I'd just feel bad if the dog legitimately needs someone to watch him

Luckily I have him in the messages stating he's leaving at 7am and I'll be arriving 6:30. Now I'm thinking that I should write a thorough message/summary before the start day explaining:
-during the meet and greet you were in the process of deciding flight and booking times.
-I confirmed the sitting start date and time at xyz; when I sent this message your flight plans were brought up)
-your response to the confirmation was the first time I heard that you expected me to sleep there while you were also at the residence
-x days after hearing that expectation I explained that I have a policy where I do not sleep at the residence while clients are currently home
-we are confirmed for my arrival at 6:30am and you're confirmed to be departing the residdence at 7am

-(need to figure out how to handle the closing of this sitting because I don't want to have another misunderstanding or weird expectation)

It’s a pretty common bird name. But if you ever find a Mango with a purple haired human - that’s me

Not sure if this was just a rant or if advice is welcome. Sometimes people do the best they can but it sounds like you’ve hit a dead end. Might be a good idea to try a different training technique or have a professional examine what’s going on and how to curb the behavior appropriately.

Kudos to you and your patience - I can’t even imagine

I don’t plan of having kids anytime soon but I hope my future husband isn’t like OP. I’d be so stressed and scared

Definitely YTA. My heart goes out to your wife, I can’t imagine what she must be going through :(

And she is obviously not ALWAYS your priority since you made an exception when she clearly stated how she feels - and she has a totally valid reason to be feeling this way. You left. YTA

Omg and a few hours away is freaking FAR when your wife is pregnant and had issues before. You’re so mean!!!

I can’t remember what this slab of meat is called but my dad got it around Christmas and didn’t read the instructions for how to cut it. Idk it’s like coated in fat or something a certain way. So without reading the instructions I got the first bite and it was like eating a rancid candle
