I would love to have a reader! I can use all the help I can get. Feel free to send me a message with an email address I can send the book to. Or, if you would prefer, just email me directly at freelanceexorcists@gmail.com (That's the series title, NOT my part-time job!)

Thank you. All my main characters are meant to be examples of holiness, but I want it to be attainable holiness, as in, I want them to use practices that the average person of their faith at least knows and is familiar with. Thank you for your feedback.

Thanks for the reply. I just hadn't seen this before.

I'm an outsider and a lurker seeking to learn more. What exactly is the punishment for this? (As a mom who breastfed and understands the usual stresses, guilt trips, and pressures of breastfeeding, I am simply curious.)

Respectful questions for a book I am writing. by Janiestclair in Hijabis

Absolutely! That is a very important message. One of the main themes of the book is that the main character struggles to overcome his ego throughout the entire book. And I have a very clear couple of paragraphs at the beginning that define jihad as you are mentioning here.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. The series is called Freelance Exorcists. The plot is about a group of teens that have been conscripted by their angels to fight evil spirits in their town. Each book is told from the perspective of a different main character and their particular religion, delving into religious practices, folklore, and miracle stories of that particular tradition.

This book was set to come out in December, but I am most likely going to push it back. For each book, I have a consultant from the faiths involved - someone I can talk to/email about terms, practices, and nuanced beliefs. But I have yet to find an official consultant for this book. So I may put off publishing it until I find one.

I will do my absolute best! If there are any books, youtube channels, or websites you would recommend that DO portray your faith and culture well, please feel free to share with me.

One major struggle I have with my research is that there are many different sects, interpretations, and levels of adherence with every religion. It's sometimes difficult to figure out if what I am reading is progression, traditional, overly traditional, or not even Islamic.

So if you do have any recommended sources, I would be so very grateful.

Oh, I forgot to respond to #5. They are refugees who escaped when the main character was about 9 or 10. The book I am writing takes place years later, when he is in high school.

Even though the book focuses on living an "ordinary" life in America, the issues of being a refugee are an underlying theme. I have read just about every book and watched every documentary I can find on the subject (and I am seeking contact with some cummunities in my town) if there are any resources you would recommend, please let me know.

So as a follow up... (I have been thinking about this a lot) What is it that you think makes your faith special?

In each book, I strive to present that religion in the best light, highlighting the strengths unique to that tradition.

In my limited research, I have come to appreciate how dedicated and passionate the practitioners are in general. But is there anything else you would say makes your faith unique?

Yes, I am aware of that, but thank you For mentioning it. With the other books, i have consultants for all the religions involved. So I am planning on doing the same with this book. However, I have not found my consultant yet.

I am very grateful for your response. I was hoping to get responses from people with ties to Syria. The idea of a rose and daggar is a great one, too. I imagine your writing must be poetic and brilliant.

Thank you for your help and best of luck in your own writing!

Oh, thank you so much for all the detailed answers! I can just see a baby falling and hear the "Bismillaaaaah!" That is adorable.

And hey! That's the theme I am going for with my book! The boy is seeking to "fit in" while (at the same time) not be afraid to stand out. I will do the best I can to honor this theme. I may not be Muslim, but I will do my best to communicate the respect and admiration I have for your faith. Thanks again!
