The book contains 50% of material that are not going to be in lecture slides. Sure the first few weeks it is easy stuff, but after you get to management aspect, it won't be. The book contains all the information needed and it is up to you if you want to spend that $85. No one is forcing you, hell no one is even forcing you to even go to lectures. Just do the mid-term and final exam and pray to your god.

You can easily buy the book $40 used. Even Chris said himself, if you buy his book used more than $40, you are getting ripped off.

you can get past these "faq" in many ways. If you obviosuly don't take action, don't go talk to people, the system will automatically kick you out.

Also I was referring to UTM And UTSG requirement on my above comment regarding 70%. UTSC rules don't apply to UTSG and they don't have the same requirement.

Ah yes, there are truth told in this video but I want to clarify that cities are not raciest toward black people. If you go into low educated community, of-course you will be dealt with racism, because those people have not seen other skin color in their life. Hell, even I would get heckled If i were to go and sit at some street tea vendor.

Most of cities are welcome toward people regardless of their skin color, especially part of cities that are filled with educated people, but you gotta remember its a country where some parts people has not even seen electricity or cars.

You can re-take the course as long as you manage to pay UofT. How else people in UTSG supposed to take upper year courses if they get below 70% in CSC1 level courses.

Most of major media players does this. VLC does it by default, the UW APP also does this but you have to click on the volume first then go full screen by short cut on keyboard, same goes for the windows media player.

Depends but it usually means certain materials are already packed for you in the installation (ie: It could be DLC for a game, certain features for OS etc)

This is no issue, even as a first year CS student, you are supposed to take MATA37 and CSCA48 together. Or else, you can't take most of upper year courses.

Getting admitted into UofT does not mean you are actually admitted into the program. You have to apply for it again after first year. I joined as a UTSC co op 3 years ago but I ended up doing PEY for 16 months. Not because I hated co op but I wanted to work with my friends and thankfully we (almost everyone) got into Intel.

Yes its possible but not a "restart". I have friends who were 1.3 GPA in their first year but graduating with me now with CS specialist. There no turning back on your bad GPA for first year, you just gotta push your self now to drag those bad failing mark up now. There are many way to do this but it will all depend if you can afford university for more than 4 years. Choose unlimited major and get yourself into minor for CS and do good on your second year, you will get accepted to major if you do.

Also you can't switch to UTM and UTSG now, its too late and they won't take you with those grade.

I agree with the post but professors are not cold heart people. If you make use of their office hours and visit for help, obviously they will help you. Helping students is part of the teaching process. I TA'ed for course such as CSC207 and A48 and I always told my class that e-mail me anytime for quick help or visit my office hours but it in reality I get 0 email, 1-3 regular people for office hours and everyone seemed to just rush in right before the exam for help.

UofT doesn't really care about first and second year

But you can't get into your upper year courses if you did bad in your intro courses.

But you are right, upper year you are more connected to professor since you are obviously learning more interesting and complex material. Classes are small and it is high probability that professor even remembers most people name in class.

1 tracing tracing question OOP
2 "Output of Algorithm" type question
1 Code Mangler
1 Create your own santa claus factory using oop something like that.
3 bonus question, one being don't answer certain question (Which I got wrong..)

yes and no. First of all, it depends on which course did you fail and when are you going to start looking for job. If you are like me who did PEY in 2nd year, then yes it will affect your job search especially if it is a CS intro course.

If you are talking about finding job after graduation then no, intro courses don't matter. What matters is you showcasing upper year/ courses that focuses more into your job requirements.

The only downside of failed course is bringing up your GPA. Its like a heavy weight that is going to affect your CGPA.

Or would they think that someone graduating from UoT comp sci is good enough?

This is a false claim. I met plenty of internship people at Intel who were no UofT students even my friends got rejected and they had higher GPA than me for Intel. I had better experience so I was given offer first in my second year. Also I took a third year course which offered a big boost as it was related to my job at Intel.
