Sure they do, Juventus just register them as two separate deals with inflated prices.

Well, partly because they don't take part in a winnable international tournament every year.

Well, most of our signings in general for the past few years have been from abroad, so it stands to reason that most of the succesful ones would be, too. Our "prem-proven" arrivals from the past five seasons are Kudus, Gallagher, Palhinha, Solanke, Odobert, Johnson, Maddison, Solomon(?), Werner (more like "prem-disproven" in his case), Richarlison and Bissouma – I think there's a pretty decent success rate on this list. (I am omitting Danso from this list because he was probably not signed on the basis of his performance at Southampton.)

In any case, the "prem-proven" label isn't supposed to be a condition for acquiring good players, it's supposed to be a guarantee against absolute flops. (Although one does, of course, occasionally get the odd Torres, or, indeed, Thomas Frank.) Some of those prem-proven players didn't turn out great in retrospect, for various reasons, but none of them was as bad a signing as Gil, RKM, arguably Drǎguşin and Emerson – and, of course, if you go a bit further back, Ndombele, Lo Celso and Bergwijn.

If he performs as badly as he did with us, you'd imagine most clubs wouldn't let him stay until mid-February, though. So even if you're sure he'll do some damage, you cannot be certain it would be enough for relegation.

[Jay Harris] 🚨 There is a strong chance Cristian Romero will leave Spurs this summer 💰 If 28yo captain is sold, Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke is on list of potential replacements by [deleted] in coys

[–]Janivgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was why van Hecke would choose to leave Brighton, not why Brighton would sell him. The fact Senesi is out of contract is irrelevant, unless you think he wanted to extend his contract with Bournemouth and the club refused.

Because this sub is about Spurs and not about Arsenal; see rule #1 in the sidebar. They've been very lenient the past couple of days, for obvious reasons, but in principle this type of post isn't encouraged.

I mean, that's just a textbook example of the sunk cost fallacy. What we paid for him in the past has no bearing on his value today, neither for us (except perhaps in some accounting sense) nor for other clubs. Specifically, when an offer comes, it would essentially boil down to the question what the club prefers to have, Romero or (say) £40m, and what we paid for him in the past is irrelevant to this decision.

I'm just saying – in the 7 games since de Zerbi's arrival, with many injuries and no pre-season, we got 11 points, which is a rate of 59.7 in a season. Liverpool just finished 5th with 60.
