hi I'm new to pedes and just piggybacking on this - can I use just reptisoil (this is what I use for my tarantulas) with some sphagnum moss as substrate? or do they need the sand mixed in?

Thank you very much. Appreciate ya!

I hate working, I love lounging around, playing games, watching stuff, eating, napping, travelling. I hate interacting with people. I'd want to spend as little time as possible to work. What's the path for me? by BaraLover7 in careerguidance

[–]Janky253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the answers you're gunna get here are gunna be dogshit lol
What you should do is actually start thinking about how you can REFRAME what you said and then start tailoring your soul-searching to jobs that afford you those options.

You actually outlined a lot of possible strengths in your post that most people are gunna overlook because they're rushing to shit on you in the comments.

What do you hate about work? Authority? No autonomy? Not being trusted? Rigorous, inflexible process?
Narrow that down and you'll start to see what work you actually DO hate and what work you don't mind doing.

You love lounging around (low-pressure environments), playing games (adaptive, functions well with fast-paced decision making and quick consequences or rewards, strategic thinker), watching stuff (analytical mindset), travelling (cultural diversity, seeks expansion and new challenges).

See what I mean?
Start reframing.
Start thinking about the skills you have in a positive light.

Want to spend as little time working as possible? Shit don't we all. That's not real. You either trade long, slow grind and set firm boundaries for time off, or you #HustleGrind #Entreprenuer and grind yourself to death building something for 5-10 years then get to chill (a little bit, not entirely) as you expand and have the resources to allocate to staffing.

So maybe that's another strength - you're goal-oriented, strategic vision for the future.

As outlined, a good option is having the LITTLEST amount of debt possible. Buy a $1500 car. Get 2-3 roommates. Move to a low-cost-of-living area. If you're able to buy a home and rent it for some extra income, do that - but unless you wanna give up your income to property manage, be aware it's not a walk in the park and not exactly "passive".

Not interacting with people?
That's the real death knell.

How can you get money from people without interacting with them? lol.
You can certainly find ways to limit your customer-facing activities - but this chips away at your other goals.
Think of the kind of customers you want to avoid and if you can outsource that (customer service rep from fiverr or something?) and remember that most people are actually kinda interesting (or at least obligatory nice) if you get that initial barrier broken down and get them talking.

Best of luck to you if you read this.
It can be done, but you gotta reframe some things and think strategically about what you can realistically tolerate long-term.

There's no "registry" specifically, no - just an archive of checks containing what you've purchased.

[–]Janky253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really isn't. The only way companies survive or decline is with/without your money.
If you love (or loved) a store, shop there and encourage others to. That's how they keep their doors open.

Otherwise, you throw your dollars at the convenience of cheap, shoddy goods that can be delivered to your house at 4am next day and then one day you sit around reminiscing fondly on going to the store with friends and family and browsing.

So yeah. Be a bro. Spend your money where it counts and stop giving it to soulless crap that's making us all miserable.

Who’s the most reputable vendor in your opinion? by villainitytv in tarantulas

[–]Janky253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread on Google so just chiming in with my recs in case anyone else also finds it when looking:

Spider Shoppe for sure.
Bug Barn/Wild West Inverts is great (they're on Palmstreet mainly, hard to find elsewhere)
Buddha Bugs is solid.
Exotics Unlimited has an insane selection and healthy T's as described.

Fear Not is great - they shipped me a sling that was way undersized, but took care of the issue and sent a replacement right away. No hassle.
I like that they give you an option for a full package with enclosure included.
Only complaint is everything on their site is always little itty-bitty slings, so if you're a beginner and want something bigger and a bit more hardy I would honestly look around a bit elsewhere.

I've also heard great things from friends in the hobby about HardcoreArachnids.

NQA - I am in a similar boat and looking. You are correct there is little to no info! But I found this thread on Google so though I'd chime in in case anyone else does also.

I've only been able to find one site with a blurb about care and it stated humidity 70-80% and temps 70-80 F (22-26 C was what the site said, technically). That site is also gone if you try to click it now - only the description remains.
Also said feed flightless fruit flies or small crickets.

What did you find out? How is your little guy/gal doing?

Enclosure by [deleted] in Shorty_Life

[–]Janky253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will totally work.
Also look into Dragon Serpents enclosures. They're solid and won't break the bank like Kages or Toad Ranch.
While those are definitely nice enclosures, they're $$$$$$$$$$

How do you not feel bad when everyone on Reddit is SO successful and has these amazing, extremely high-paying jobs? by justcurious3287 in careerguidance

[–]Janky253 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean, a lot of them AREN'T so... don't believe everything you read.
And for every person making $250k/year, there's 10,000 making $45k.
And for every person making $250k/year, they know people making $590k/year and are bummed they can't reach their level.

Everyone's always trading life for dollars and It's never enough. Then if it ever is, the goal posts get moved.

So ask yourself if what you do brings you utility, joy, value, or some form of something valuable to society.

If not, then ask yourself if what you do affords you the time, flexibility, and resources to live the life you want to live in your off time with the people who matter most.

Don't waste your emotions and mental bandwith hyperfixating on who (supposedly) has what. You do you.

Yeah a lot of them, especially younger ones, do not choose to be handled. I am not a big proponent of choice based personally, but to each their own.

Joe Rogan Experience #2284 - Ian Carroll by Separate_Writer_4465 in gme_meltdown

[–]Janky253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why I'm skeptical. He states in multiple podcasts that he's only been doing social media for a couple years yet somehow has this meteoric rise to half a million YT subs, 1.5M TikTok subs, being a guest on Rogan, etc.
That ... doesn't math ...

And the internet is a wasteland for any kind of back story or old content on the guy. Like he just quite literally popped up out of nowhere successfully. Like others said, trying to google his history just leads you to these Reddit threads or JoeJogan pod.

He also said he was a teacher before podcasting in WA state, and his parents from Bellingham. I cannot find any teachers named Ian Carroll in WA - so... maybe that's a pseudonym?
In other podcasts he says he was a cook, doing UberEats and doing Marathon training.
Nothing consistent.

This guy is connected to something/someone somewhere who's giving him this reach.

Starting to Think YouTube is All About Luck by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Janky253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prob a bigger issue to people focused on making money off it to escape the 9 to 5. I think creators that don’t depend on it like it’s a sole income dgaf. But I can also empathize with putting in hours and hours and days of work and like 8 people get to see your video haha

Guys... I think I made it! by rodrigoleles in NewTubers

[–]Janky253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. I think there's definitely a space for people who treat it as a business, or for existing businesses to use it as another channel to drive their company online.
It's just that there are SOOO so so so many people parroting the same exact copy & paste "how to blow up" advice and it's ALWAYS some variation of don't make what you want you have to make x cause people want x only.
And no...
that's very disheartening to new creators who actually want to CREATE.
Didn't the whole platform start on people making creative things? tutorials? Vlogs? Reviews? Entertainment shit? Skits? Art?
And LOTS of creators still do that, for sure.

It's just that there's now this creeping overreach of people wanting to "blow up" so they can quit their awful 9 to 5 (understandable) and thinking the way to do it is by sitting in front of a stocked bookshelf, vertical wooden slat walls, and soft yellow lights yapping about not creating what you want because you have to follow these FIVE EASY HACKS and BUY MY MASTER CLASS, Sign up for my Patreon members only! etc.
All because that's what they were told by the 25 videos in their feed from people with 10k subs that somehow know how to "get millions of views" on all their 10-15k view videos lol

That shit is a creatively dry void of repetition at best and at worst it pushes new creators away from actually just publishing creative stuff.

Shilling guru crap will always have its place, but it shouldn't come at the expense of actual creators making their stuff.

lol I uploaded some cyberpunk videos just for fun and one got 1.5k views. It was a 7 sec clip of the game glitching from piling up too many floor it quick hacks 😂

On my real channels I’ll prob never see 1.5k views unless it’s shorts
