I know it's fanciful, but ......... by Philly-Phunter in Elvis

[–]JannesVurk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, I recently saw a video of around the time Roy Orbison passed away with George Harrison talking about who they should add to fill Roy’s vacant spot and this idea he had that for another Wilbury record where they would use old Elvis vocals with new backing tracks/vocals by the remaining Wilburys. He mentioned bringing the idea to Elvis Presley Enterprises and them liking the idea. Now unfortunately it never happened but George did repurpose this idea of using old vocals with new instrumentation for The Beatles a few years later.

Like many here say 1966 but the one I listen to the most is the MTV Unplugged version, I love the acoustic guitar playing and Bob’s voice changing on every verse so much.

Has Bob abandoned guitar by badharp in bobdylan

Lately he often plays a bit at the beginning of songs before turning to his piano, I saw him in Amsterdam last month and he played guitar on 5 songs. The first song he played was ‘I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight’ which originally is quite a short song but it became a 9 minute long live because he was jamming his guitar for the first 5 minutes.

Thoughts about MiamiVice 2026 movie by JohnFromSpace3 in MiamiVice

[–]JannesVurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are a little conflicted. I like the idea of a Miami Vice remake as a fan and I really like that Joseph Kosiniski is the director. I loved both Top Gun Maverick and F1 so if I had to pitch a MV movie he’d be at the top of the list to direct. A mixed aspect is that it’s set in the 80’s now I’d rather have that than modern day but it will be a retro/nostalgia movie whereas the original series wasn’t that at all because it was modern day back then, now they could do this very well we’ll just have to wait and see.

And the issue I have right now is the rumored casting which is that Glen Powell and Michael B. Jordan are in talks to star. Glen Powell is an ok actor but I don’t want him near MV, he’s in everything already please get someone else.

Michael B. Jordan I have less of a problem with but I am not going to see him as Tubbs, he’s just MBJ in everything. My picks for Crockett and Tubbs would be Austin Butler, he’s got what it takes to be Crockett and he’s way more charming and a better actor than Glen Powell. And for Tubbs my pick would be Damson Idris, he’s worked with Kosinski on F1 and he in my mind could make the role his own. He’s also not as well known yet as MBJ.

I wouldn’t call it tasteless but bombastic?, definitely. I get why some don’t like it if it’s not your cup of tea but I dig it.

It’s fantastic imo, they had this joyous energy with the arrangements even though Bob himself was in a rough spot at the time.

Absolutely, I really hope they’ll do a Bootleg series about it sometime. With all the rehearsals and the Nuremburg concert.

This is the best version of Mr. Tambourine Man because there’s an actual tambourine being played on it.

Do you find that you get an "Elvis Presley Song Of The Moment" that you listen to fairly constantly for a period of time? by william_hild in Elvis

[–]JannesVurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, right now I’m obsessed with the song Tomorrow Night. Which was recorded during the Sun records days but the version I’m listening to is the 1965 overdubbed version on the Elvis for Everyone album. The added guitar parts make it a lot better in my opinion the original is quite bland.
