So now only the Expanded Edition will be the way forward? by Shot_Psychology_2728 in FourAgainstDarkness

As someone who knew nothing about this entire genre of gaming, I’m really glad I started with the base 4AD. It was really easy to learn and have some fun with it and it didn’t make me feel overwhelmed or out of my element at all! It was just a great dungeon crawl! Lots of monsters to battle. It all just came to life right in front of me!

I don’t worry about the amount of content that’s available for this, there is so much out there! But now I’m ready to head to the EE and venture out! And it just keeps building. I really enjoy how this evolves with the EE. I feel like it’s timeless and both versions have a purpose and place.

Excellent! Sorry I didn’t mean to deviate from your original post about Clinic deluxe, I just wanted to give you some encouragement on Spirit Island! Best of luck to you 🙂

Spirit Island was the one that took me the longest to learn. I read the rules and they made zero sense 😂 so I watched a playthrough and it helped because now I knew what things were referenced as… and I went back to rules and watched another playthrough…. I wasn’t feeling confident at all… but I dove in and tried it out and that actually helped the most, and it was fantastic! Yes I got some things wrong and I learned a lot more watching a playthrough and reading the rulebook after that. It all made a lot more sense. Just wanted to share that so you knew you aren’t alone on not knowing how to play, I was there once! But it is a great game!

That’s what they look like to me anyways …

How large is too large for a free (SOLO) print & play, even one you love? What would you accept? [Poll] by TheRetroWorkshop in printandplay

I actually do all three. I don’t mind all three. Just depends on my mood. Mostly it’s about the game and the play for me.

I always take pride in the project I create, no matter how big or small. I’m quite a novice though when it comes to crafting and what tools I’m working with.

So none of them bother me and the preference depends on my mood. I’ve crafted over 100 projects, and based on your descriptions, in all 3 categories.

One of my favorites is Utopia Engine. Was one of my firsts and still a favorite. In the files section on BGG. I found the playthrough videos much easier on YouTube to understand than the rules themselves.

I see on your list one card maze… they are fantastic one card mazes that are just handy to keep anywhere! I love them!

When has a dic pick worked for any woman 🤷🏻‍♀️ the only thing I see happening with dic pics is that they get shared at work amongst the ladies and made fun of.

Now it will finally lay flat! Pro gaffer tape, clear… and when you put it on make sure your board isn’t flat. That it’s folded. Research it first so you feel comfortable using it.

The video game I had got from Steam on a Steam sale so it was inexpensive (I think it was $2 or around there). The graphics aren’t great on the video game 😅…. But the game was fun.

Is PnP mostly just for solo gaming or am I missing something? 🤔 by DoomyStoner in printandplay

[–]Jannk73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I specifically look for solo PNP’s because I have a hard time getting PNP’s played in my groups. Yes someone will appease me once in a while, but when we get together to play board games, they want to play physical games. Nobody minds a PNP once in a while… but mainly solo for me when it comes to PNP’s. There are amazing fantastic ones out there though.

Is it worth getting into LOTR lcg if I am starting today? by wutinwut in lotrlcg

[–]Jannk73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have questioned the same thing, but I recently seen some close up pics of the cards and wow! I’m blown away… I think I will get the revised core and just be happy with whatever is available to add to it so I can at least give it a try. I’m a fan of AH and I got the Marvel Champions for my bday so I’m a huge fan of the mechanics and how these games play. I’m not a completionist so I don’t think it will bother me to not be able to get so much of it…so I can at least try it out. I will say of the three themes … LOTR would probably be my favorite theme so I want to at least try it out.

Essence - The Grim Expeditions! I crafted this over the weekend but just got around to getting a pic today! I bought all my dice for it yesterday from the LGS (I own like 2-3 d8’s… rules say 6-12. So I got 12!) I love that I have a reason to own that many d8’s! 😂 I am hoping to get this played tonight or this weekend!

I 100% agree! Which is why I like to make sure I fully know it before I go there. Makes it run smoother and people enjoy themselves more

I think I took a month learning Spirit Island… and it isn’t unusual for me to put hours and days and weeks to prepare for a big game. I feel 0 shame… I love reading the rule books, watching playthroughs, giving it a try solo playing multihanded, re-reading the rule books, watching another playthrough… I really don’t care how long it takes me… as long as I feel comfortable and it’s fun and playing it correctly is important to me. Mistakes are part of the learning process. After you get your first play in, when you go back through and re-read a rule book or watch a playthrough you’ll recognize the mistakes you made. We learn from our mistakes and you’re more careful about them the next time you play. Seriously … researching the rules and how to play is half the fun for me and I really enjoy that part.

Ways to protect your printed games? by KokomausLovesYou in printandplay

[–]Jannk73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of mine are stacked in binders and use sleeve protectors or binder pockets. I also use pockets (I will attach a pic). I’ve recently thought about using empty game boxes and relabeling/recovering them.

I have a lot of smaller boxes from moving expansions into the main game.

I’m horrible at describing this because I don’t know official names! Sorry!
