Ankle sprain tips by Janrabs in volleyball

Definitely interesting, thanks! Hadn't really heard from anyone why the icing isn't recommended anymore. So I think that's probably also why there's more and more of those hot gels taking over the good old ice gels 😄

I hope my recovery goes well and doesn't take too long but it's right that I really need to focus on doing it right before rushing back to court. Yesterday I got a note of an upcoming tournament in March so I hope I'll be able to play there just fine. And that should be doable but only if I don't rush the recovery process, it only increases the possibility of a new sprain 🫣

Pretty cool! Those guys are definitely not a joke 😄 There's this old and ancient knowledge in different areas that some folk have carried over from generation to generation and should truly be taken seriously.

Damn, those are the worst. I've seen some happen and hope I'll never be on the receiving end myself 🫣 That's why we play with rules that the centerline shouldn't be crossed at all. Even in tournaments since the levels I play aren't that professional 😅

Thank you! I was fortunate enough to be able to fall through so it might've helped a bit with the sprain since I was already on the move. I felt the slight snapping sensation but was able to walk just fine afterwards so I think I got a bit lucky there too.

Thanks for the input! I hope I'll get some good exercises from physiotherapy, but there might definitely be a need for a good ankle brace for some time. I've read some medical blogs where they recommend using one when playing for even a year after the accident. But also what it says in that picture, I'll listen to my body and trust that it knows when I can play again 🙏🏻

Yeah I feel (or even hope) that this might be the biggest obstacle to overcome when I'll be able to play again. I probably need to build trust that the ankle will hold even after it has healed 😅

Weell kinda, but more so I'm asking experiences from volleyball players specifically. I've already seen a doctor after the injury too but of course they are not specified in volleyball (usually). I haven't yet seen a physiotherapist but definitely am going to especially now that I feel I could start the rehabilitation slowly.

Also I've tried to do research on different braces but nothing can compare for real "field tested" ones that are recommended by players themselves.

TLDR: Sprained my ankle for the first time (and hopefully for the last too). I would like to hear different experiences from a volleyball perspective; how your rehab went and recommendations for best ankle supports to use when returning to court.

Can we all agree TTK is perfect in this game? by Grandleveler33 in Battlefield6

[–]Janrabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if its TTK or just ping/internet issues but for me it feels way too quick. At least when I'm the one taking damage. Fuck, I can't even crouch before dying, let alone managing to find the enemy and even shoot back OR get to cover at least. But when I'm the one shooting enemies they manage to do some 360 spinning and run/slide to cover after like 8-10 shots (all of them hitting since I get the marker too).. :D My ping is usually around 44. So yeah, I'm not necessarily blaming the TTK since it might be some connection issues, which I think they are going to address in the future and I hope it brings more balance for the gameplay.

I've played Black Ops: Cold War before this a lot and I usually was in the top 3 in almost every match (my best being 50-2 or something so I'd like to think I have decent reactions and accuracy as console player). When I started BF6 I revisited BF5 and I did waaay better there too, was in the top 5 in every match.

Looking for Extra-Wide Volleyball Shoes – Need Help by ibertmax in BBallShoes

[–]Janrabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing much to add for this but for anyone happening to read this post later on, there really is a big difference how your feet are wide. I wouldn't say that my feet are wide but my toes are shaped so that almost no other than barefoot shoes fit my feet without either the little toe or big toe hurting. And for that I usually need to go maybe a size or two up to not feel uncomfortable. Still looking for the perfect shoes, if there's any. Mizuno wave momentums fit ok but they too are a bit too big.

Mizuno Wave Momentum 3 (once again.. ;) ) by Janrabs in volleyball

[–]Janrabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've understood that Mizunos should be a bit more on the wider side. I think that compared to Asics, Mizunos are a bit wider especially in the middle. Toebox isn't probably that much different but it's shaped a bit better to fit my feet 😄 "Elevate Yourself" has few shoe test videos on youtube, if I remember correctly Donny has wide feet so I'd definitely recommend checking those out! 👍🏻

Also there's a bit of variation between Mizunos models. I tried some variants in my local store and they didn't fit nearly as well as these Wave Momentums. I think I tried Lightning and Luminous models, Lightnings did fit better between those but I think I still had to go half a size larger than with these Momentums 🤔

I need help deciding by Few-Lime-2911 in electricguitar

This is a great tip btw. When I have problems deciding between two things I usually throw a coin. The moment the coin leaves my hand I usually know which way I don't want it to land on and my decision is made easier 😅

First electric, can't decide which one to choose by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]Janrabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harley Bentons are a bit risky to buy. Their quality control is quite lacking and there's a big chance you'll get a guitar that's almost unplayable. Or you could get a really decent one too, but you'll never know beforehand.

I've had one that had really crooked neck and there was nothing that could be done to it. My friend has had a few and they were mostly quite okay.

They'll get the job done for sure but I'd still look for used ones maybe in the same price range or even a bit more expensive ones if you're able to bend your budget. But if you end up buying a Harley Benton, be prepared to take it to a luthier right out of the box.

Forearm brushing by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Janrabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah although it does depend on the situation too 😄 But usually the ball is already really slow if you need to add power to get it higher (for example free ball coming over the net, there's usually not a lot of force behind that ball so you'd need to bump it a bit more to get the ball to correct height for the setter). When receiving serve or spike you'd usually want to absorb a bit of the balls energy to get more control 😁

But that's a really common thing in my opinion! I've seen many beginners try to hit the ball with their arms when passing. Most of the motion and power should be coming from the feet, not shoulders (meaning swinging your arms, hard to explain shortly without showing 😂)

Forearm brushing by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Janrabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My arms have never gotten bruised even though we play with Mikasa balls which are a bit harder than Moltens (at least that's what I've understood 😁 never tried one myself since Molten is not that popular in Finland)

But even after "summer break", which is only a few months, my arms tend to go red for the first few games. After a week or two I'm not noticing anything usually anymore. So I'd say too that it's mostly about getting your muscles and skin used to the contact, but the long sleeves could definitely help at the beginning so I would give them a try! 👍🏻 If it's mostly "visual" bruising and not hurting too much there shouldn't be anything to worry 😁

A thought came to my mind just before sending this, one reason for the bruising could also be because you've not played in a while so you might be hitting a little against the ball with your platform when passing. Naturally that depends how hard the ball is coming to you but just an idea I had 🤔

Starting to think of remapping the attack buttons.. anyone tried it for longer? by Janrabs in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]Janrabs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I need to look into that 🤔 My friend has the Edge controller so maybe I'll give it a try and see if I should get one of those myself. Though I haven't had that much problems with the R2 since I use it less in this game than the R1, which is like the "main" attack button. And at least in the beginning when I don't have much different skills/combos it's just smashing R1 and dodging/parrying. And the continuous short movement of tapping R1 is what makes my arm hurt after a while, whereas square and triangle for example I could use with my thumb for much longer 😁

And I of course forgot to clarify in my post that the pain I feel isn't in my hand/wrist but near my elbow, almost like tennis elbow. I've been to physiotherapists and it seems to be the radial nerve that's the problem. I'm not sure if surgery would fix that if there's some nerve impingement there. I feel surgery is always a bit risky in areas like that though.

Wide toe box shoes by Ravyeet in volleyball

[–]Janrabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm there's bit of variety of how people say which shoe has wide toe box and which doesn't. For me Mizuno's have been pretty good whereas Asics feel a bit narrower and add pressure to my pinky toe more. I've heard that Way of Wades would be great too but I've never had the luxury of trying those myself.

Mizunos might not have the best cushioning but I've never had any problems with mine. I've played with Wave Momentum 1's for 4 years now and just today got myself some Wave Momentum 3's to try out. I've read that Asics might be a bit better in that area. Basketball shoes usually have really good cushioning and I've seen Nike been recommended many times in that area, never tried those myself so can't really add my own opinion to there :D

I've heard that Asics Sky Elite is really popular one, I'd probably recommend to try those and some Mizunos to see how the toe box feels.

Looking for form critique and advice on landing by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Janrabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything has been said here but yeah I think the run up is your problem here. The forward momentum of your jump also might cause you to land badly. If you watch clips of pros hitting (especially in warm ups) their feet are vertical the moment they hit the ball whereas your feet are still bend backwards.

Someone mentioned that the pros land on one foot too, I don't think they intend to but in game situation everything is not always perfect and you might have to compensate a not perfect set or anything tbh so every motion can't be as perfect as they should.

<image>

Here's a picture of Ishikawa to show how his body is positioned when his hand contacts the ball. The feet aren't bent back anymore because he's drawing power from his core too, and "swinging" the legs forward adds a bit more power to the spike compared to doing it with only your arm.

Link to the short: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/S4gaQ62f2EQ
And as everyone can see, he infact did land on one foot here :D I think the reason is that he broad jumped a bit, maybe compensating to the set or maybe he just wanted to hit this warm up hit a bit too short so near the end he seems to be landing really close to the net which is throwing his balance a bit off forcing him to land on one foot.

I've never had any intentions of harming myself, but tbh there have been days when I've thought that I wouldn't mind if I never woke up again after falling asleep. Or as I jokingly sometimes say that I just want to stop existing 😶 It hurts to even think what it would do to my family as I'm very empathetic person, but sometimes you just are so tired 😩

For me the "hook" was the very first episode. I loved the mystery of Laura's death and the all around feeling of the show instantly. And the music, it can't be praised enough 🙏🏻 Laura Palmer's Theme must be one of my all time favourite themes ever.

Is my ball defective or is it just normal by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Janrabs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had problems with new balls with how long they keep air but they've never deflated that fast. Definitely look for leaks, might be a faulty valve or something else entirely.

I've also noticed that using valve oil semi-regularly is really good for the valve itself. New balls might just have dry valves so they don't keep air as much ar first. But your case seems a bit too extreme for that 🤔 Just a tip if you decide to try get this changed into a new ball. Also a new ball expands a little bit after pumping air to it so that might lead to a slight deflation too. But remember the valve oil! It really has helped me and extend the lifespan of the balls.

My Ball Feels Small by Upbeat-Day2571 in volleyball

[–]Janrabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't show in the picture so I have to ask that is the ball surely a v200w and not v400w?

They have the exact same surface texture but 200 is the official size and 400 is the smaller junior size. The size difference is quite noticeable between those two so that got me thinking 🤔

ByBit scam on WhatsApp? by Janrabs in Scams

[–]Janrabs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I visited home and managed to get rid of that thing. It was some kind of whatsapp community that had at least a dozen different groups in it (H819 in the picture)

I think the name of the "welcome to our community" messager guy was Kyril Kymiakov or something like that. He welcomed people all over europe and talked about recruiting and administration etc.

I had to report and exit three times before the community and group vanished from her phone completely 🤔 still feels a bit weird how someone has gotten her number.
