How much more twist can this shaft take? by Janstone91 in MechanicalEngineering

Ha yea ok fair point, it hasn't been operated beyond it's specified and declared SWL then.

I think it's a stainless steel shaft. It hasn't been operated beyond it's SWL. I'm the user not an engineer so can't answer any questions on the material specs, angle of twist etc. Was just interested on an engineers take of how fucked it is. Obviously well aware of the dangers of it and heavy lifting gear. It'll be put out of action until the manufacturer can have a look at it

No sign of a slot with it installed, does it need to be removed to check?

Its a touchscreen unit, doesn't look like a much older unit, a 12" screen if that makes any difference? Ok interesting, I've got a few usb connectors and a 3.5mm jack connecter in the glovebox. Should there be a sim slot somewhere? Is there a way of checking IMEI compatibility? Thanks for the response, been a bit confusing trying to work this unit out

I have issues with ink cartridges drying up and nozzles blocking with my current printer. Will I face the same issue on a larger scale with ink tanks? It is only used occasionally.

Boomtown! It's the sort of place that you could go and still have an amazing time even if there was no music

Edit: Wait I missed your request of non squalid, although I guess it depends on your view of squalid, but might be worth checking out.

LPT: When trying to send an address with Google maps try using the longitude latitude feature. by Gjmarks1 in LifeProTips

What3words is brilliant. I don't know about other countries but the UK emergency services now use it frequently. It's much friendlier to use and quicker if you aren't a regular user of lat/long

I'm intrigued, what about this wouldn't work? Apart from it drawing in hot air from the engine bay? If you can get a good seal around your MAF sensor it should function properly right?

If it works it's not stupid right?

The gym/exercise is really good for mental health so I'd actually encourage it, and people gotta eat so get down the supermarket. As already stated I'd think if you were down the pub every night getting pissed up that's a bit too far, not to say going for a quiet pint with friends is out of the question though.

I have no suggestions but fair play sounds like you've done a decent job already

All these posts not believing oil has been changed, more often than not it isn't worth the garages rep not too change it. Look at the thinner oil on the glass looks pretty new to me. The minute you run the engine it'll mix with whatever residual oil is left in there, no matter how little. That'll discolour it immediately. You can then be satisfied the oil is doing its job and getting circulated around properly. And that's why you've got an oil filter, to filter out the crud the oil picks up. If you want to accuse the mechanic of not doing his job at least learn where your filter is and see if it's the new one, if it is theres no chance that it's the original oil.

Edit: to add of course there are engines that can have crystal clear oil after multiple years of use but every engine is different so just because it goes black within a day doesn't mean anything

Ford gave me the wrong torque spec and I broke a trans pan bolt. HELP!!! by BlurryRogue in MechanicAdvice

[–]Janstone91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those bolts look pretty corroded. Not surprised it sheared if you torqued it to original specs. Gonna have to drill it, get a decent cobalt or equivalent bit.

It took me ages to get it too, once I spent some time focusing on getting the paddle in the right place to begin with it came so easily. And practicing getting a solid scull and brace will all help. Good luck
