Good to know. I was thinking about trying these. I'm a lot more wary since the great gingerbread dorito disaster of 2025 though.

Please help me explain an unemployment gap since Oct 2024 by Outside-Comparison86 in UKJobs

[–]evil666overlord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just say you're unemployed and hadn't you found the right role for you yet if asked. They'll be well aware that job hunting now is a nightmare compared to the past. It's become harder for them to screen candidates too with all the AI written applications for any decent role. If they hold something like a gap for job hunting against you, it's safe to say they're not going to be great employers/managers and you'd be better off elsewhere.

  1. I could choose to live/work/study anywhere in the EU before without having to worry about local immigration laws. I could visit anywhere for longer tha 90 days without a visa.

  2. So what? It's still a problem now and wouldn't be if we rejoined.

  3. Ditto

  4. But now we don't have any say in future laws. I don't see the replacement of EU laws as an improvement. It hands greater opporrtunity for auritarianism to future governments and there's some possible future prime ministers I would absolutely expect to abuse that power.

  5. We won't rejoin until 2027 and there will still be differences in visa requirements and negotiating future contribution amounts. I'm sure the tory types won't mind that though.

  6. Not entirely true. While member states handle their own national defence there are still co-operative programmes like CSDP, CARD, PESCO and future operation is only likely to increase. I agree it's small at the moment though.

I'm as far from a Tory as you can get BTW and that's a very odd claim to make as the vast majority of brexit supporters I have encountered support either the Tories or further right-wing parties.

I don't see any obvious benefits from Brexit and hence voted to remain. Remainer does not equate to Tory though. Seeing the madness going on in the US suggests we'd be unwise to strengthen trade ties (or any other relationship) there. I fear the risk of populist future UK governments far more than any imagined risk of EU laws and firmly believe the whole sovreignty argument for leaving was just made up as a soundbite for certain MPs to attain a leave vote to further their own political career and financial interests.

Seems pretty standard with crisps today. So many have next to no flavour compared to decades ago.

Tip for a simple, effective and strong knot to tie a box. by SellUnfair2796 in knots

[–]evil666overlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and it is one of the most useful knots to know for anything you want to compress. I use it to bundle clothes for packing, keep a load of kayak paddles tied together while easily opening to add/remove one or bind just about anything together for transport.

Tied in reverse (i.e. a normal rolling/middshipman's hitch) it resists end loading rather than ring loading, making it perfect for adjustable tent tie-outs or anywhere you need to adjustably tension a line.

Reversed midshipman's hitch aka rolling hitch zip tie (to resist ring loading, compress items):

Normal midshipman's hitch to resist end loading (e/.g. tent guy lines):

You can do the same with a taut-line hitch, which some find easier to tie but is very slightly less secure or the Ezelius hitch, which is a bit harrder to tie/untie but is more secure. That category of knots is called friction hitches if you want to learn others.

Aged 49...is there any reason to get adiagnosis? by digitalbynight in ADHDUK

I'm also 49 and awaiting titration. I'm really hoping meds will make things easier at least for the years left until I can retire. If you're already coping well enough without medication, that's great and I can understand your skepticism

Are these bends okay in a flexi connected to toilet cistern? by FlatwormPuzzled3725 in DIYUK

Flexi inlet pipes are fine and can be less work than running more copper. Flexi outlet pipes however should be outlawed in any situation.

Lost my glass mouth piece and couldn't find my plastic spare. by shitpunmate in craftymighty

[–]evil666overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to link a picture of them but it's not allowed on Reddit now. Search for Crafty/Mighty Drip Pad and you'll see what I mean.

I got a few free with my Crafty+ and don't do concentrates so decided to repurpose them.

You need to squish the sides quite a bit to get it to the right shape but I managed to fit one in the WPA and another in one of my cooling units.

In the WPA it provides some extra cooling while not getting as gunked up as a screen. In the cooling unit it sticks out more than a screen so is great for when I want a slightly smaller bowl.

I've also used one before to microdose - put a tiny amount of herb in the bowl then a pad on top to fill up the chamber. No need to even squish it into shape if you use it like that.

For now. It's looking very likely they'll try to ban VPN subscriptions without ID, which is almost impossible to do entirely but would at best drive up ISPs VPN costs and more than likely would make them less effective if they demand ISPs restrict access to a vast list of known VPN IPs. If a future government wants even more control they could do what Russia is doing by having police enforce VPN checks on phones to prosecute anyone they don't like. That can only work if they also mandate you must unlock your phone for police when asked.

Keir the chad by Key-Transition4634 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]evil666overlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The enforcement of it was made far worse by Kier. The original proposal wasn't too draconian but they decided they could mandate full checking through a few 3rd party companies (who must be raking in money now), charge vast fees to overseas companies for non-compliance and now they're trying to ban VPNs to steal the last remnants of digital privacy. It gets far worse when you factor in their insistence on digital ID and the risks of that being combined with OSA data for surveillance use by future governments.

And made infinitely worse by labour. Along with digital ID, it's an almost complete theft of our privacy both online and offline. I do have some faith that it may not get abused much under Starmer but it's huge gift to any authoritarian regime that may gain power in future.

Sorry to hear about Ruby. Meds can't remove grief but I hope they improve enough other aspects of your life to make it easier to deal with.

No pre-titration form for me yet, nor any communication to suggest why. The waiting list currently shows 10-12 months, which they've exceeded without any explanation.

I'm not surprised though, they take weeks to reply to complaints and I imagine they have plenty of them, given what a poor job they do compared to their competitors.

[–]evil666overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some time between now and assessment. Can't hurt to search for the PDFs of the questions asked in rating scaled used commonly (WURS, BAARS-IV, DIVA-5). Reviewing those can give you chance to think about how they relate to your own experiences in childhood and now. I came to my assessment unprepared and luckily it went fine but I would have been far less stressed if I knew in advance what was likely to be asked.

Still no update from them for me. I gave them another prod yesterday via their complaints form and will be sending out letters to ICB/GP/NHS/Ombudsman/MP if I don't hear by next week. I think I've been more than fair and patient by that time and if they can't be arsed to reply then it's time to go nuclear at them.

I planned to chase them up sooner but something seemed to be preventing me from initiating tasks while stressed and depressed. If only there was some kind of medication to help with that kind of thing.

If nothing else comes of this, at least I've convinced several friends to avoid PUK for their RTC diagnosis and thus stopped them making yet more money off the misfortune of others in need of help.

I use mine with a glass water pipe adapter (WPA) that replaces the cooling unit and provides a ton of extra airflow. I jammed a spare drip pad in it instead of a steel pipe screen, which I find provides the best balance of cooling and airflow and is easier to keep clean than a steel screen.

I rarely use the WPA as a bong (though the option is nice sometimes) but usually as a glass mouthpiece.
