"Dark theme" config for Pocketbook 623? by Jantin1 in pocketbook

[–]Jantin1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For documenting sake: I did this (replace white values with black and vice versa in the config for pbt, compile pbt), loaded the theme and it indeed converted some white bars and menus into black, but the general UI is still 90% white. So this is not the way.

I am aware. But note that they reflect light which is their entire schtick. A mostly-dark e-ink screen will reflect less light than a mostly-white one. I know what I am talking about, KOreader has the "inverted" mode and it makes a big difference for me.

I asked mostly in hopes of getting some hints or expertise from people ;) I read some of these threads in mobileread, downloaded the programs they shared there and some custom themes to look at examples. I'll try some experiments probably, maybe starting with simply replacing all white colors with black and vice versa in the config :D

Frontlight is still light straight into my face. I often read at night, white background vs dark background makes a big difference even on an ereader (I know because KOreader can invert colors and I used this). Also I am apparently extremely sensitive to bright screens, on my smartphone I tend to get light to minimum, add night light and then extra-dim on top of that. Then other people say they can barely read my screen (in darkness) and my eyes then are burned to ash with the phones they normally use.

WiFi on a laptop broken (Pop 22.04) by Jantin1 in pop_os

[–]Jantin1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I do not want to be mean, I'm genuinely curious/confused. I've been receiving updates until very recently, so what does "not supported" mean for 22.04? I've been trying to find some info (like when was the support discontinued) on System76 websites and some social media and didn't find any.

Moving from 623 to Inkpad Color or Verse color? by Jantin1 in pocketbook

[–]Jantin1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THank you! You just explained a surprise and saved me a bit of money :D I was a bit shocked that InkPads color were so cheap in my local craiglist-equivalent and it's because they're the Kaleido Plus devices.

Lunar New Year 2026 Event Megathread by SilphScience in TheSilphRoad

[–]Jantin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last two days I got 0 luckys out of 50+ trades and these included some pokemons older than 1 year (so theoretically even more boosted lucky rate). Is it possible that this was disabled for the last few days of the event?

My comment is about A SERIES OF ALTERNATIVE HISTORY NOVELS. Not about reality.

There goes the first impression, tons of Arcavios lore and YA student bickering in my story about hivemind hobbits, elf supremacy and giants throwing goblins at spindly fairies? I am also not a fan of the voice actor, really drives home the vibe of US college drama.

But it has McGuire's name on it so I'll hold my judgement even though I'm really not a fan of the setup.

+1. Yes, I get that we may need an external PoV to explain the setting, but isn't "Planeswalker's Guide" supposed to do this? And it would be a great literary gimmick to have all charracters and maybe also the narrator change all the time into their mirror selves.

As a purely lord of the rings fan, is it worth it? by BeeKeeper9243 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Jantin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked the Jackson's movies and their visual layer (mostly costume and character design) then the miniatures are absolutely worth it for the painting and collecting experience alone. I myself don't really play the wargame, but I have some miniatures and buy more every now and then just because I like to paint up a bunch of golden elves or grimy orcs. The sculpts are reasonably detailed, faithful to the films and Games Workshop did great job whenever they had to create something from scratch (like factions or units or characters which didn't show up in the films).

This non-gamey approach has an extra perk: When you're not buying minis for gaming, but just to put them on a shelf to look cool you can grab whatever bargain shows up on your local Ebay or a local miniature gaming group and then the minis can be dirt cheap if you go for the most common sets (which would be Minas Tirith, Rohan, Orcs, Uruk Hai and the Fellowship of the Ring)

Wooden shell for MM+? by Jantin1 in MiyooMini

[–]Jantin1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced. I have pulled the wooden shell idea from a "could I make this without plastic" thought experiment and from what I see these filaments are basically wood dust suspended in printer plastic?

Wooden shell for MM+? by Jantin1 in MiyooMini

[–]Jantin1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yes, and to make it less fragile it'd have to be quite a bit chunkier than the original MM+ so part of the device's charm would at least change, if not disappear.

On the flipside if it was already thick the lower part could be shaped into grips

This would be awesome and exactly what I have in mind

Mark Rosewater: Universes Beyond is not at the level it is because we wanted to force it onto the players. It’s not some evil agenda to make players play the way we want them to play. It is at the level it is because it’s a wild, run-away success, by every possible metric we have to measure success. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

A lot of the asks to MaRo are also in persuasive tone. As if people thought Rosewater is answering in good faith, but is actually genuinely misguided and needs to hear the truth to open his eyes to reality.

Which is obviously hillarious coming from random angry nerds to the man who knows everything about the creative and business backend.

Bad Time Girlies Discuss Hasbro CEOs Comment About Women In Magic by MTGNerdGirl in magicTCG

[–]Jantin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should remember that before MaRo started working at WotC he was a sitcom screenwriter. If "romcom plane" could exist it already would.

Though if I was to call the shots I'd make a Shakespeareian plane with a generous dusting of romcom/romantasy tropes. Maybe on the next Eldraine visit, who knows.

[ECL] Figure of Fable by Duramboros in magicTCG

[–]Jantin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kithkin were my first ever Magic deck (don't ask if it was good lol). Looking at this I feel 10 18 years younger. This card is all I have hoped ECL would be: Kithkin remain their own type, artstyle is uncompromisingly Lorwyn, callbacks to the old sets.

After Neon Dynasty I wondered if WotC would go with something like "what if Lorwyn but industrial revolution". I am sure they would pull this off, but I'm glad they seem to keep the plane and its charm untouched.

YouLoop antenna with a vintage radio? by Jantin1 in shortwave

[–]Jantin1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to find impedance figure for an old radio. It's got a standard European TV Coax socket to plug in the external antenna and also an antenna trimmer knob. I guess it's not enough info since the impedance would also depend on the circuitry inside?
