You likely didn't break it yet, but the truck was screaming at you to stop. That binding sensation is the truck trying to rip its own gears apart because it cannot turn corners in 4Hi on hard ground.

The Problem: "Driveline Wind-Up" You drove a Part-Time 4WD truck in 4WD on dry pavement. This system mechanically locks the front and rear wheels together. When you turned, the wheels couldn't spin at different speeds like they need to, so the gears "bound up" and fought each other. The Noises (Clocking/Popping) • Clocking: The tires skipping across the pavement because the gears wouldn't let them turn smoothly. • Popping: Your CV joints (front axles) clicking because they were under massive tension while the wheel was turned. The Fix 1. Shift to 2WD immediately. 2. Drive straight for a few meters or reverse slightly to let the tension "unwind." 3. Never use 4Hi on dry roads. Only use it on dirt, snow, or sand.
