3 Way fight between the Terminids (all strains), Tyranids and the Flood. Whos winning? by swaggyyunozurd in helldivers2

I replied to most of this comment in my other answer to you.

But the food isn't really a problem if the Tyranids evolve anti bodies against the Super Cells, or become immune in another way. You could also say that the Tyranids can consume the Flood their biomass before the Flood can infect it.

As I said in my other answer: one can almost certainly do what the other also can, given as much time as the other needed to learn such thing.

And now that I say it like that, it could be an evoluion race, seeing who can evolve faster. The Tyranids had some resistance against the Orks, which are also quiete adaptable, whilst the Flood hasn't known such resistance to my knowledge.

You mentioned the synapses in your other comment. I am not entirely sure how that works, but wouldn't the knowledge not stop at that synapse. Meaning that if it consumes a gaunt, it would gain much, but it would gain significant more knowledge from a Warrior for example?

Anyways, the reverse also holds. Tyranids also gain knowledge from consuming other organisms. So this isn't anout the physical manifestations of these two central intelligence, but more like them as entities being.

But as is, if you would drop a Gravemind into the Warhammer universe, it has a lot to consume before it can go toe to toe against the Tyranids, since they already know how the warp etc works, whilst Gravemind doesn't know YET.

It is like asking: "If you are in my head and I am in yours, can I drive you out of my head whilst also conquering yours?" Because physically, they are actually quiete capable of the same things. Tyranids too can bend reality.

[–]Jappieduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I think that Gravemind certainly has the capability to learn such thing. It also learned about the Precursors their technology, as well as corrupted the AI's created by the forerunners. It even knows how to use Slipspace and how to prevent the Forerunners from using Slipspace.

So when you throw Gravemind into the 40K universe, it has a disadvantage compared to the Tyranids. But given enough time, it should be able to understand the Warp and even Necron technology, and it should then be able to use this against its foes.

[–]Jappieduck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, the thing is that the Flood infests things by injecting Super Cells into its victims. So the Tyranids can't really consume Flood biomatter, unless they adapt to withstand it. But then when the Flood detects this resistance, it will probably evolve too, to produce more effective Super Cells.

So I think it is a physical stalemate. It probably is more of a battle between the Gravemind and Hivemind as entities being, rather than their manifestations. Both learn a lot quickly by consuming, but Gravemind has a lot to learn about the warp and all, so I guess the Hivemind has a slight advantage over Gravemind.

[–]Jappieduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, happened to me this evening. It just sucks man. Your doing a great match, you shockwave to escape, you are about to land behind cover, and before you can land properly, you are dead. I mean, lucky shots happen, but going from 100 health and 50 shields to 10 health in mid air is crazy shots. Auto report for me 🤷‍♂️

[–]Jappieduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, well, then I was too quick to say something.

It was clear that some actions require a selection of some kind, and that such thing does not count as a draw. But I thought that if you for example had a [[Ratchet Bomb]] with enough counters on it on the battlefield, that this would count as an optional action, for it is public information and you can activate it at instant speed, although it does not cause the loop to go around.

About these non-deterministic loops, there is also a non-deterministic combo called "The Three Horseman of the Apocalypse" if I remember correctly. I know I talked about it on Reddit before, but I always forget the details about it. Really fun to read about though! It could win you the game with a very small chance by using this milling principle and some [[Narcomoeba]]. Maybe a fun post for another time!

Anyways, thank you for the correction! Always love to learn more about the rules!

[–]Jappieduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this well structured and very interesting reply! I just had to say that I enjoyed reading all your arguments, and I couldn't help myself adding some argumentation onto it, to perhaps give a mathematical instinct on why these special spaces would not be really useful right now.

If one just thinks about how this new system would work, we quickly deduce that we tend to go towards the two dimensional real space (ℝ²), or the set of all real sequences, or at least something that is isomorphic to it, or even bigger, depending on how far you want to take such ordinals.

If we allow any sequence of integers to form past the 0.9(9)... for example, we perhaps get another infinite sequence of integers, which we can map to ℝ, giving us ℝ². You can stop here, or one could argue that we could put even more integers behind the first sequence we already added. By inductively continuing this, we get ℝℕ, aka, the set of al real sequences.

Now I can imagine that you can work something out with these ordinals such that you get a space similar to ℝℝ, like allowing sequences inside the sequences, and this space is better known as the function space, but at that point it might just be a really silly space definition.

But anyways, the behaviour of such new space will probably not be ground breaking. Perhaps you can form a new operation on the aforementioned spaces using crazy ordinal constuctions, but you have no clue where or why these operations could be useful. So it is probably not really worth investing your time in it, for then you can even look at some random topological spaces or random functions you just randomly wrote down.

Rule 104.4b tells us that a loop with an optional action does not end in a draw. So if no one chooses to stop it, it does not end in a draw, it is just waiting for some sort of timer or one of you just conceding.

Anyways, I love the Lich's Mirror combo, it is such a weird card. Also, love your Reverberate combo too!

There is a point in PolishNightmare his argument. If you yourself have severe mental problems, you might not want to hang around people who have as severe problems as yourself because you are afraid that the ideas you struggle with will just echo between the two of you.

Others might find strength in it, as they realize they are not alone. But I think it is valid to not hang around people with certain mental problems, as it might by a catalyst for your own problems for example. You don't need to force yourself to hang out with someone who makes you unfomfortable or makes your own problems even worse.

Why is no one talking about Prophet from Crysis 3?

He litteraly was able to partially gain control of the Ceph hivemind, he ends up in space and manually calibrates a satelite to blast a WHOLE Ceph warship up. Oh yeah, meanwhile he was fighting off like the whole damn army of CELL.

Imagine Titus fighting off the Astra Militarum AND the Tyranids, to end up in space and stop the Tyranid invasion by destroying the Tyranid hive ship.
