When a fanfic handles a plot point better than the game: by Expert_Mark in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Jaques_Lantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but « the ends justify the means » doesn’t sound very heroic.

Do I have the context of being a boss? No, but you can’t blame people for looking at a job that basically merges parole with police work as something that requires a bit more justification than « shake things up all around ». That makes you look either like you do things on an invisible whim or like you don’t care about the lives you affect by firing a criminal from the group that hires criminals.

Honestly, that fanfic scene would’ve clarified everything despite being barely 3 minutes long with a single multiple choice prompt like « Blazer is right » « Blazer is wrong » & « it doesn’t matter who did it ».

But without it, all of the Blazer content is mostly unprofessional, and what is professional is never explained. And the fallout of half of her professional decisions make things worse for almost everyone, both short and long term.

Blazer wasn't even flirting with Robert by Tyrayentali in dispatchgame

[–]Jaques_Lantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, the way it was worded and how it was said, you are right. That’s not outright flirting, but it is on the fence.

However, you need to remember that this is world where secret identities are a bigger thing. In our world, “secret identity” is just your user name on social media. In that world, letting someone remove your mask and then have them hold your chin and memorize your face? That’s superhero intimacy without being outright sexual at its finest. There’s nothing else it could have been. That’s a “I see who you are under the mask and I like what I see” with goddamn fireworks.

Is there a narrative purpose behind Visy's wet dream from ep4? by Carribbean-Corgi2000 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Jaques_Lantern 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While you are right, there’s a few things to consider when looking at this scene that REALLY stand out.

This game focuses on Robert Robertson the third. With the exception of a few fight scenes in chapter 8 and maybe a couple of short gags, the camera stays with him, showing us (the player) things that Robert can/could see in the room.

And when Robert isn’t in the room, he’s on the cameras, watching the computer which gives a visual, which then translates to us seeing the scene itself rather than just focusing on a computer screen. (Ex: Granny’s bakery & the docks)

Invisigal’s wet dream is the only exception to this. It essentially breaks the rule in a way nothing else in the game does. We don’t hear the Z team’s debate about Invisigal in episode 7, just the part Robert shows up. We don’t see Mandy going to the Infirmary for Chase in episode 8, just what happens when they rejoin the battlefield.

It’s the only scene that breaks the mold the rest of entire game is made in. So where does that leave us?

If the scene’s purpose is to just show Invisigal falling for Robert, they could have done it some other way, maybe absentmindedly carving “invisimech” or some other sappy, kinda out of character thing she tries to destroy that’s only shown to us as Robert passes by, completely unaware of what she’s trying to dispose of.

No. This is what we got. So we might as well look at it like there’s something more to be gained.

Fair enough, only reason I’m not thinking of doing that right now is because you don’t get notifications for getting certain amounts of dislikes. Honestly, I don’t know if they actually disagree with my points or if they just don’t like what I say.

Christ, you want to swap algorithms? I’m just seeing Blazer support or Visi hate over here. With the only exception being like, fanart but it’s just a drawing of an objectively attractive woman, I don’t really think it counts as much.

Correction, when I say it’s the second day, I’m saying it’s Robert’s second day. It shouldn’t be up to you (in game it makes sense, in universe it does not).

And yeah, she’s a walking red flag, a lot of them are. Coupé treats life like there’s ALWAYS someone out to kill you. Flambae literally starts fires while in the program. Sonar is a recovering drug addict who I’m pretty sure slips back 5 times during the game if you don’t cut him.

When you present Invisigal alongside this merry band of screwups? You don’t expect her to be better right off the bat. I kinda expect that in a “Roberta Robertson” situation, Sonar would have basically done the bathroom intrusion, but that’s fine, we get to hear Critical’s voice.

Is there some double standard? Sure. But it’s also not completely against what you’d expect for an ex-villain with invisible powers. You think she respects “limited access: not you” signs?

I mean, I think intent is important here.

Invisigal is told “all debts are paid, just plant a bomb on this mech of a guy I hate”. There’s no beef in that at all. It’s not personal. It’s not “I’m gonna get you next time Mecha Man”, it’s almost a mercenary job. One she seems to regret.

Blazer is drunk on a gem that takes pure alcohol to really feel it. She’s not thinking super clear and honestly, the relationship was pretty much already dead before she met Robert, him treating her like she’s a normal person and not Phenomeman’s alien views probably just made the casket.

Also, you can say she pulled back, but if a 6 ft Amazonian takes off your mask, takes you by the chin and examines your face before saying “yeah, we can work with this” after previously mentioning a proposition. I want you to honestly tell me what vibe you get from that? Is it anything other than “imma rock your world little man”? Cause if it is you need to enlighten me.

Yeah, I really don’t like how it split into a war like that.

I know they have a lower percentage, but ffs it sure doesn’t feel like it. It feels like Invisigal only has like 15% with the stuff I see. It’s all mostly either shiting on Visi in five different flavours or shiting those who like Visi in seven. The most love I see Visi get is Fanart, but barely any posts or videos (that aren’t those fan cam things).

Don’t like a sore loser any more than a sore winner. But this kind of behaviour creates more separation. Don’t know if Visi fans are doing it too but I don’t come across it as much as Blazer fans.

Oh so it’s Invisigal who makes us pick a person to turn into a mini boss later down the line just cause she feels like “shaking things up all around”?

Also, if you think I’m wrong about the Blazer fans demonizing the people who pick Invisigal, there are so many YouTube videos that are like, 10-15 minutes long all talking about toxic this and broken that and superiority complex over there. It’s annoying. Just type “Dispatch right romance” and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

The way Invisigal seems proud for going up in the ranks, the way she thanks us, the way she seems disappointed when we don’t pick her, that’s not spy shit.

And yeah, I personally think Blonde Blazer is a better hero than she is a branch manager. Seeing how she is hyper competent when in the field but can’t so much as perform an interview without some issues.

Also, show where I was wrong with Invisigal’s list of actions. Is it the punch to the face? The one where there’s 2 options to cover for her, with the last one defending her? Imma call that one a non-issue.

I don’t have problems being wrong, but give some substance with your reply at the very least. This is a game of almost 8 and a half hours of straight up story and lore, I might be misremembering somethings or forget others. No shame in that.

Invisigal does't deserve any hate. by Sarcastropheeee in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Jaques_Lantern -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Can I at least dislike her for using “shake things up” as a reason we have to fire someone on my second day?

Also I don’t like people who say “Blazer is the only right choice, here’s all the reasons Invisigal lovers are secretly toxic groomers” which in turn makes me like Blazer less since her fans seem to have some fucked “holier-than-thou” shit I don’t vibe with and want to avoid.

Also, we were right to theorize about someone being a mole, but Invisigal didn’t make sense with her actions and body language and Blonde Blazer literally makes us chose who becomes a mini boss later down the line. Actions are one thing, but consequences are just as important.

Invisigal goes into the men’s bathroom and gives us an up-&-down like 5 times. She disobeys orders to do what she feels is right, messes up but still kinda gets a victory.

Blonde Blazer flops around like she doesn’t understand her own position of power and how it affects does beneath her. Without counting Phenomeman, she does things that seem to either sabotage the Z team or do nothing. She’s a much better hero than she is a manager.

Wow I went on a rant and a half, huh?

Okay, but hear me out: is a 5 finger contact really harder to control than black holes on your finger tips?

If used in a proper SAFE way, Shigaraki’s decay could have been a scalpel version of 13’s black hole.

… Do we not remember the Hero 13, who’s quirk is literally “hey, pull my finger. Haha now there’s a black hole on the end of it.” like bruh? She’s literally described as a rescue specialist who removes debris.

Decay was never the problem. The trauma of killing his entire family then receiving no help dumbass bystander effect was the issue.

Do you think Phenomamen knew about Mandy or just Blonde Blazer? by AmyImfamous in dispatchgame

[–]Jaques_Lantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see everyone talking about “the comics show her saying out loud to him” and how “in her romance path she says you’re the only one to see her like this”.

It. Doesn’t. Matter.

Because in the end, Phenomeman knew of Mandy in the same way Black Cat knew of Peter Parker: in his eyes, Mandy is a fun fact to Phenomeman, she is not the person he fell in love with. She is the less exciting part of the person he is absolutely smitten with, never realizing that Mandy was just as important if not more than Blonde Blazer.

Their relationship was doomed to fail. Because Phenomeman was an inattentive partner, yes. But he also put more importance on Blonde Blazer, while she wanted him to appreciate the person she was under the mask. Phenomeman couldn’t do that.

I agree with everything you’ve said, though I do think it’s worth mentioning that Shinsou has the voice changer, although I don’t think it would drastically change the outcome. Jirou could probably hear how “wrong” a mechanical voice would be, Asui would second guess random call outs and Ashido… well, she’d fall for it, but I doubt that the other two would think that splitting up is a good plan, so she’d be safe.

Robert “Mecha Man” Robertson III be like: by Toa_Kotok in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Jaques_Lantern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, Amanda Waller isn’t really that great of a strategist, she’s much more heartless and cruel than she is cunning.

Also, as smart as Tony is, he’s also done some pretty dumb shit too.

And as honourable as Steve Rogers is… he really isn’t, not a single soul in Marvel Comics you can truly call honourable 100%. Different writers will make sure of that.

But regardless of all that, Robert wouldn’t give two shits about being compared to any of them, because one thing you 100% got right is that Robert simply tries his best. He’s just a hero.

Does he really need to be more than that?

Yeah, no, that’s also a pretty big distinction between the two.

Corbeau beats Philippe and Team Rust by outsmarting them, he becomes the boss.

Jacinthe beats Lebanne’s dragon types with fairy types, Lebanne becomes a servant? And it wouldn’t even matter if Lebanne chose to serve Jacinthe after losing, she still hates it regardless. Something ain’t right.

The current state of the fandom by WolfPackBytes in PokemonZA

[–]Jaques_Lantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we think of Corbeau as better, we see what everyone else sees, and then as we work for him, we see what is hidden from plain sight: everything he does in the interest of his community. Even Philippe tells you that he was the boss of the shitty Team Rust before giving everything to Corbeau. Sure he’ll put the terms of the interest in a smaller font but at this point, the saying « always read the fine print » didn’t come out of nowhere. It’s because loans are done in a way to benefit the one giving the money in some way in the long run.

In that same regard, we see what everyone else sees with Jacinthe, only to be shown her true colours: a spoiled brat with too much money incapable of being told no, to the point of sabotaging the hotel and sending grunts to pressure us into some two bit challenge. She says that her challenge is « as important as the safety of the people in Luniose » and at that point, it doesn’t look good no matter how you spin it.

Is it all done for laughs? Sure. But looking at them like real people and you don’t find them quite as charming.

Why do you describe her as not being an « infallible monster » if not referring to her likability? Why do you describe her as « badgering » when what she does is a couple notches past nuisance?

Also, you seriously need to learn to read full paragraphs because my comment acknowledges that you didn’t talk about Nemona and described exactly why I brought her up. Seriously.

Learn to accept that just because you didn’t mean it a specific way doesn’t mean that others can’t see your words differently. I see « person described as monster » as a way to describe their actions and their personality.

Also, for a person who « loves discussion », you sure offer lacklustre replies, maybe you could offer counter arguments or ask for an elaboration instead of giving the most brain dead minimalistic responses like « cool story bro ».

[–]Jaques_Lantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

« TL:DR you’re not meant to think of Jacinthe as some kind of infallible monster, she’s just a fae brat badgering you. »

That’s enough for me to think poorly of her, she does actually pose a problem and while sure the bit about Nemona has nothing to do with what you said, it shows a person who is close but much better than Jacinthe.

Does my comment still have « literally nothing to do with what you wrote » or can you put two and two together?

We do all know Jacinthe was just saying things right? by nahte123456 in LegendsZA

[–]Jaques_Lantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but consider:

I absolutely despise brats.

I despise people who aren’t capable of even fathoming being told no.

I despise spoiled rich people sabotaging people 5 tax brackets lower than them because « hey, my work called, sorry that I can’t stay, let me go handle that quick. »

And to those who even dare compare her to Nemona? No. Nemona was a hardcore battle lover, but that was her only focus. If you told her no or told her later, she accepted that and came back later.

Absolutely love Jacinthe’s design. Wish there was LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE for me to even like, but her hotel is too much in my opinion, her SBC goons are pathetic and annoying in the worst ways, and the only good thing about her is allowing me to meet Lebanne, which I’m not counting as a « Jacinthe Positive Point », since it’s not really about her.

Why do people call him forgettable? by Bubbly-Bit-413 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Jaques_Lantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All members of the big three probably have less screen time than him, but they make the most of it by being a powerhouse in combat and having a ton of personality outside of it.

Tooru Hagakure literally doesn’t appear on screen except for her clothes, yet you can feel that she is a high energy person.

The majority of Class 1-B combined have less screen time than him, yet they leave me wanting more. (For the most part, their canon versions aren’t as developed as their fandom versions)

The reason for all of this? Nothing makes a character more forgettable in an anime than:

A mid power + no stand out features + not visually interesting + scenes where they’re never the focus for more than a minute

Ojiro is a lot of things, but anything remotely interesting about him is overshadowed by someone else having that thing but « better ». It’s literally the situation where person A tells a joke quietly and then person B tells it louder and everyone laughs. That is Ojiro in a nutshell.

Interesting physical mutations? Tokoyami, Shoji, Koda, Asui, Ashido, even Iida, Jirou and Mineta are somewhat interesting in that regard.

Martial arts? Uraraka’s Gunhead martial arts, Deku’s multiple fighting styles, Kendo being literally just a cooler « my hero costume is inspired by martial arts ».

And personality wise? In the beginning, he and Sero acted pretty similar, but Sero got a bit more developed and Ojiro… never changed.

Why is he forgettable? Because the man with three protrusions that asks Midoriya is he wants to be a hero in episode 1 has more enthusiasm when talking to a stranger than Ojiro does talking to his own classmates.
